Toronto island café gutted by fire re-opens
A popular café is reopening a year after a large fire destroyed the Ward's Island Association Clubhouse. The nearly 100-year-old building was a popular meeting spot and home to the Island Cafe. The café is celebrating its grand opening on Friday, with beer sampling and live music, according to a post on social media. "The newly rebuilt cafe has expanded facilities, including a patio for 100," said Tim Kocur, executive director of Waterfront BIA in an email. The clubhouse played host to several events from May to October, including weddings, anniversaries, company meetings, seminars and picnics. Zorah Freeman-McIntyre, the owner of The Island Cafe, says there is also an expanded kitchen and licensed bar.
