Weather Aware through Monday for More Rounds of Strong to Severe Storms
Tonight: Additional storms will fire up around sunset or shortly after this evening, remaining scattered through the overnight. Some of these could become strong to severe with gusty winds and small hail. Lows will be in the upper 60s to low 70s.
Sunday: Morning storms are expected, some of which could be strong with gusty winds and small hail, although the severe risk is fairly small. Outside of a few scattered storms in the afternoon, conditions dry out for most of us as skies become partly cloudy with highs in the lower 80s.
Monday: Our weather aware continues into Monday with another round of storms likely during the afternoon and evening, posing the risk for severe storms with gusty winds and small hail being the primary threats.
Next Week: As a stationary boundary remains draped across the area, temperatures and humidity levels will not fluctuate much over the next seven days.
Highs will stay in the middle 80s, slightly warming into the upper 80s by the end of the week, keeping heat index values each day in the lower to middle 90s as our humidity remains quite oppressive.
This front will continue to provide opportunities for storms mainly in the heating of the afternoons each day. Rain chances become lowest and more spotty on Wednesday, then increasing in coverage again for Thursday into Saturday.

City of Dallas opens cooling centers, offers free AC units as summertime heat kicks in
The City of Dallas is offering relief to residents as the heat of summer arrives. Beginning June 16, Beat the Heat cooling centers are open for residents to escape the heat. Residents can also apply for portable AC units starting June 18. Severe storms possible in Southeast Michigan Wednesday. Here's what to expect.
A new area of low pressure and a front will move into Southeast Michigan on Wednesday. Storms are likely to be strong to severe along and ahead of the front. The CBS Detroit NEXT Weather Team has declared Wednesday a NEXT Weather Alert Day. Most of Southeast Michigan is rated 2 out of 5 on the severe risk scale by the Storm Prediction Center. NEXT Weather/CBS Detroit Storms will move in by 3 p.m. on Wednesday and will stick around into the night. NEXT Weather/CBS Detroit Most of the stronger storms will move in late afternoon Wednesday and into the evening. NEXT Weather/CBS Detroit Some lingering rain will be around on Thursday for Juneteenth. The main threats will be strong, damaging winds at 60 miles per hour or higher, as well as one-inch hail. We can't rule out the chance for a couple of storms to rotate. This could lead to a tornado or two through the evening hours on Wednesday. There will be lots of warm, humid air ahead of the system. Feels like temperatures will be in the mid-90s for Tuesday and Wednesday before the storms. NEXT Weather/CBS Detroit The heat and humidity will act as fuel for storms ahead of a front. It will feel like the triple digits by the weekend with actual highs in the low 90s.

Fire in Maui Grows to 500 Acres, Prompting Evacuations
A brushfire in Maui, Hawaii, rapidly grew from a quarter-acre to 500 acres on Sunday, the authorities said. The blaze, known as the Kahikinui fire, was reported at 10 a.m. local time, 4 p.m. Eastern, in a sparsely populated area in southern Maui. It grew to 20, then 200 acres. By 7 p.m. local time it was reported to be 500 acres, according to the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety. The containment level of the fire was unknown, the authorities said. There were no reports of injuries or structural damage, but about 100 homes were evacuated. Mayor Richard Bissen of Maui County signed an emergency proclamation on Sunday evening, allowing the county to take advantage of federal assistance programs. Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, signed a proclamation authorizing the activation of the Hawaii National Guard. Maui was devastated by fire in August 2023, which killed about 100 people, making it the deadliest American wildfire in a century. The cause of that fire was a power line that snapped and ignited dry grass beneath it. That fire destroyed most of Lahaina, in the island's northwest.
