Army's Vice Chief Lt Gen Raja Subramani retires from service
His retirement marks the end of a remarkable journey of service and commitment to the Indian Army and the nation.
Commissioned into the Garhwal Rifles in December 1985 after graduating from the prestigious National Defence Academy, Lt Gen Subramani has served the army with distinction across diverse operational theatres, including the northeast and Jammu and Kashmir.
His career has been marked by strategic brilliance, operational excellence, and inspirational leadership, a Defence Ministry statement said.
An academically accomplished officer, Lt Gen Subramani holds a Master of Arts degree from King's College, London, and an M.Phil. in Defence Studies from the University of Madras.
These academic credentials complemented his field experience, shaping him into a strategic thinker and an operational leader with a deep understanding of India's security architecture, particularly along the western and northern borders.
Throughout his career, he held several key command, staff, and instructional appointments. His contributions have been pivotal in enhancing the Indian Army's operational preparedness and strengthening national defence capabilities.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Lt Gen Subramani has been decorated with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM), and the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
As he stepped down from the post of Vice Chief of the Army Staff, the Indian Army expressed deep gratitude for his selfless service, visionary leadership, and unwavering dedication, and conveyed its best wishes for continued success and fulfilment in his future endeavours beyond the uniform.
Lt General Pushpendra Pal Singh will take over as the next Vice Chief of the Army Staff on Friday.

Lt Gen V Sreehari Assumes Command of Dakshin Bharat Area
Secunderabad: The Indian Army is reaffirming its commitment to strong leadership in protecting national integrity and maintaining operational readiness in the southern region. In this context, Lieutenant General V. Sreehari, AVSM, SC, SM, has taken over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dakshin Bharat Area, which includes Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Union Territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep. A distinguished alumnus of Sainik School Amaravati Nagar, the National Defence Academy in Khadakvasla, and the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Lt Gen Sreehari was commissioned into the 16 Sikh Light Infantry on June 13, 1987. In August 1992, he joined the elite Parachute Regiment and subsequently commanded the Para Special Forces Battalion during Operation RAKSHAK. He has led various units in challenging environments, including the Siachen Glacier, a Strike Corps Infantry Brigade, and a Mountain Division in the Northeast. In addition to his operational roles, Lt Gen Sreehari served in a United Nations mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and held important instructional positions at the Junior Leaders Wing in Belgaum and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. Throughout his career, Lt Gen Sreehari has occupied high-level staff positions, including Director General of Recruiting, Director General of Manpower Planning and Personnel Services at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), Major General of General Staff at Eastern Command, and Deputy Inspector General of Personnel at the Directorate General of Assam Rifles. He earned a Master of Science in Defence Studies from Madras University, a Master's in Management Studies from Osmania University, and a Master of Philosophy from Madras University. Lt Gen Sreehari's exceptional service has been recognized with the Shaurya Chakra (1998), Sena Medal (2021), and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (2023), as well as commendation cards from the Chiefs of Integrated Staff Committee and Army Staff. Hailing from Wandoor, Malappuram, Kerala, he is the son of the late Petty Officer M. Velayudhan Nair and Sulochana Nair. His wife, Uma Sreehari, is a homemaker from Muvattupuzha, and their daughter is professionally based in Puducherry.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy in Pune, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan was commissioned into the Navy on January 1, 1988. A specialist in gunnery and missile systems, he has held a wide range of command, operational and staff assignments over his distinguished naval career spanning more than three decades. At sea, he has served onboard various frontline warships, including as the commissioning crew of the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Mysore, INS Nishank and pre-commissioning crew of Coast Guard OPV CGS Sangram. He also served as the executive officer of INS Mysore. He has commanded the coast guard ship C-05, the missile vessels INS Vibhuti and INS Nashak, the missile corvette INS Kuthar and the guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri as the commissioning commanding officer. In February 2020, he took over as the flag officer commanding the eastern fleet, and led numerous operational deployments and exercises during a time of heightened maritime activity, post events at Galwan. Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, alumnus of La Martiniere & university of Lucknow, appointed vice chief of army staff
LUCKNOW: Lieutenant General Pushpendra Singh, a distinguished alumnus of La Martiniere College and the University of Lucknow, has been appointed Vice Chief of the Army Staff, effective July 31. Prior to this role, he served as Director General Operational Logistics & Strategic Movement at Army Headquarters. Commissioned into the elite 4th Battalion of The Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) in December 1987, Lt Gen Singh's academic journey began at La Martiniere College, Lucknow, followed by higher studies at the University of Lucknow and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. On Friday, La Martiniere College celebrated General's achievement, sharing on social media: 'Lt Gen Pushpendra Pal Singh, ISC batch of 1983, has his name etched in the College Memorial Hall on the Roll of Honour.' In his 38-year long career, Lt Gen Pushpendra has played pivotal roles in several key operations including OP PAWAN, OP MEGHDOOT, OP ORCHID, and multiple tenures in OP RAKSHAK. He has commanded a Special Forces unit in the Kashmir Valley and along the Line of Control, an Infantry Brigade, and a Mountain Division during OP SNOW LEOPARD on the Line of Actual Control. Coming from a proud military lineage, Lt Gen Singh's father, Lt Col Kunwar Narendra Pal Singh, also served in the Indian Army . Among those who attended the appointment ceremony in Delhi was Colonel Salim Durrani (Retd), a close friend and former comrade. Reflecting on their shared journey, Col Durrani said, 'At La Martiniere, we were in the same house—Hudson. He was in the science stream, I was in humanities. We graduated together from the University of Lucknow and cycled to campus from our homes in Mahanagar. We cracked the CDS exam side by side and were commissioned together from the Indian Military Academy. ' Col Durrani, who retired from the Rajputana Rifles, added, 'Pushpendra is an exceptional officer—competent, diligent, and humble. The nation is fortunate to have him.' The Durrani family also boasts a rich legacy of service. Col Durrani's grandfather, Nadir Ali Khan Durrani, was a decorated British-India police officer, awarded the King's Police Medal in 1929 and the Indian Police Medal for Gallantry in 1947. His father, Group Captain Shahid Durrani of the Indian Air Force, received the Vishisht Seva Medal on the 25th anniversary of India's independence. Col Durrani himself has earned four commendations for gallantry, including one from the Chief of Army Staff and three from General Officers Commanding. His son, Captain Shahnawaz Durrani of The Rajputana Rifles, was honored on the 75th anniversary of Independence.
