International challenger Danon Decile enjoys gallops spin

Leader Live4 days ago
The Dubai Sheema Classic winner is a temporary resident at James Horton's Beech Hurst Stables in the heartland of British racing ahead of his mouthwatering York clash with Eclipse one-two Delacroix and Ombudsman.
He had his first canter up the famous Warren Hill in the company of trainer Shogo Yasuda, who is pleased by how his charge has settled into his new surroundings and also has no concerns about reverting to a mile and a quarter after his Group One strike over further in Dubai.
Yasuda said: 'We did travel very well, so we're very satisfied.
'My training plan between the two weeks from here to York, the main thing is to take care of his mind – make him happy.
'I'm not concerned for the shorter distance. I believe he's got a lot of experience from racing. I'm not worried about the drop in distance. He can adjust pace.'
Danon Decile is a five-time winner who will arrive at the Knavesmire in search of a hat-trick in the £1.25milllion feature of the Ebor Festival's opening day after his Meydan win followed a valuable triumph in his homeland.
The four-year-old is as short as 4-1 with some bookmakers to scoop the prestigious Group One and he will be the second Japanese challenger in as many years to venture to Yorkshire after Durezza finished fifth in a race recognised as officially the best in the world 12 months ago.

Lioness Jess Carter felt 'relief' when black teammate wasn't only player who missed Euros penalty

Lioness Jess Carter was targeted by vile racist trolls during the Women's Euros in Switzerland last month, forcing her to hand over her social media accounts to a dedicated team Lioness Jess Carter has admitted she felt 'relief' when some of her white teammates missed a penalty at the Euros - amid fears of more horrific racial abuse. The 27-year-old was forced to come off social media during the tournament last month, after she was plagued by vile racist trolls. ‌ The Football Association (FA) called British police to investigate the messages aimed at her online, but did not disclose which platforms she had been targeted on. Now following their incredible consecutive European Championship win, the England defender has said she feared her fellow black teammate Lauren James would face 'astronomical' abuse when she missed a penalty in the quarter-finals. ‌ Jess admitted she even breathed a 'sign of relief' when a number of Lionesses who are 'not black' went on to also miss their penalty in the dramatic quarter-final shootout against Sweden. ‌ Jess, from Warwick, told ITN: "It's horrible to say but it's almost like a sigh of relief when other players that weren't black missed a penalty, because the racism that would have come with LJ [Lauren James] being the only one that missed would have been astronomical. "It's not because we want them to fail - it's about knowing how it's going to be for us [black England players] if we miss." Speaking about the impact the abuse had on her, Jess added: "It makes you feel really small. It makes you feel like you're not important, that you're not valuable. "It makes you second guess everything that you do - it's not a nice place to be. It doesn't make me feel confident going back on to the pitch. My family was so devastated by it as well and so sad." The FA, UEFA, Lioness boss Sarina Wiegman and the squad all slammed the abuse Jess faced as abhorrent. It prompted a move by the furious players to stop taking the knee - a symbolic movement against racism where footballers have knelt on the pitch in the seconds before a match kicks off. It was started by former American Football quarterback Colin Kaepernick in 2016, but took off among English players following the racially aggravated death of George Floyd in 2020. ‌ Lioness Alex Greenwood said yesterday (Tuesday) that 'more needs to be done' to stop racist abuse in football, as she blasted it as 'unacceptable'. She said: "I can never understand what the girls are going through and that's so hard, but if I can have a voice as a white player and person and say it's totally unacceptable for it to happen, then we need to be confident enough to stand up and say that. Speaking about the relief Jess felt at England's missed penalties, Alex, 31, from Liverpool said: "The fact that thought goes through your head in that moment is really sad."

Anthony Joshua sends four-word message to Andre Ward after bold call-out

A former two-division champion - who retired in 2017 - has surprisingly called for a fight with the British heavyweight star at Wembley Stadium Anthony Joshua seems willing to take on retired boxing legend Andre Ward, as long as the price is right. ‌ Ward, a former two-division champion, hung up his gloves in 2017, but it appears he is itching to get back into the ring. A potential showdown with Joshua is the only fight that could tempt the 41-year-old out of retirement. At the height of his career, the American was considered one of the world's top fighters. ‌ He quickly became one of the top pound-for-pound stars, securing victories over big names like Carl Froch, Sergey Kovalev and Mikkel Kessler. After retiring in 2017, Ward left the sport having won gold in both the super-middleweight and light-heavyweight divisions. ‌ Now, eight years after his retirement announcement, the former Olympic gold medallist has set his sights on Joshua. "There's one name that I brought up before that when you say that name I can see myself fighting him. Present day. Today. If the business was right and everything was right on that front, me and Anthony Joshua," he declared, reports All Out Fighting. "That's a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium. It's a dangerous fight for my legacy, it's a dangerous fight across the board. But that's a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war. It's Anthony Joshua. I know he's getting ready to fight Jake Paul, I ain't talking about that. I'm talking about a real fight." Ward mainly fought at both 168lbs and 175lbs. As for Joshua, the British former two-time heavyweight world champion hasn't tipped the scales under 250lb since 2022. Despite the massive weight gap, it appears 'AJ' is keen on the concept, citing a well-known phrase from Mexican sensation Canelo Alvarez. "Pay Day Pay Day (Canelo voice)," Joshua remarked. Joshua hasn't stepped into the ring since his defeat to Daniel Dubois last September. It appeared likely that the duo would clash again immediately, but 'AJ' required additional recovery time. Supporters will almost certainly witness the Brit's ring return this year, though nothing has been officially announced yet. Whilst on a recent holiday to Cyprus, boxing promoter Yohan Zaoui was informed by Joshua that he would probably stage his comeback against Tony Yoka. "With my wife and children, I'm on vacation at a hotel in Limassol, by the sea, in southern Cyprus," Zaoui explained. "And who do I run into this morning at the pool? Joshua! He's also on vacation with his family, with his younger brother and his nieces and nephews. I chatted with him for a few minutes. He's humble and kind." ‌ Regarding a potential clash between Joshua and Yoka, Zaoui disclosed: "He told me that his next opponent would certainly be French, Yoka. He told me that he had the option of facing the American YouTuber Jake Paul, but that 90 per cent of the time it would be Yoka. I asked him his prediction. He told me that there was no easy fight." When is Anthony Joshua's next fight? With Joshua currently recovering from elbow surgery, the British fighter is eager to get back in the ring before the end of the year. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has lately disclosed that 'AJ' is now looking to move forward with his career after consistently chasing a fight with Fury, although he still harbours hopes of eventually squaring things with the 'Gypsy King' before calling time on his boxing days. Discussing Joshua's prospects with Sky Sports, Hearn said: "Yeah, good, he had that operation recently... that elbow surgery, which went very well. You will see him return in October, November or December."

Bookies sweating as punters trigger massive gamble on horse with ‘huge appeal' for £1.25million York race

DAN THE MAN Bookies sweating as punters trigger massive gamble on horse with 'huge appeal' for £1.25million York race Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) NERVY bookies are fearing a massive gamble on a horse with 'huge appeal' will leave them staring into a financial blackhole at York next week. The price has completely collapsed on Japanese raider Danon Decile in the £1.25million Juddmonte International Stakes. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 🇯🇵 Japan dominating in Dubai Danon Decile powers to Sheema Classic success @RacingDubai #ダノンデサイル — Racing TV (@RacingTV) April 5, 2025 Available at 16-1 with Paddy Power, he is been supported into 10-3 as punters take advantage of generous each-way terms. You can still get three places if you back a horse now - but bookies think the feature race could cut to two on the day if we get fewer than eight runners. As it stands it looks like Daryz, Anmaat, Whirl, Minnie Hauk, White Birch and dual Derby hero Lambourn are highly unlikely to run. All either have other arrangements or, in the case of Anmaat and White Birch, will surely have the ground against them. Danon Decile has arrived in Britain in peak physical fitness and stretched his legs on the Newmarket gallops last weekend. He has gone from 100-1 no-hoper to Group 1 superstar in a little over a year. Danon Decile was available at triple figure odds ahead of his Japanese Derby win in May 2024. He didn't win again until January this year but backed that victory up when he beat King George winner Calandagan in the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic in April. Victory there was worth just shy of £3m so he'll be taking a pay cut if he wins the Juddmonte, with its first-place prize of £708,875. But at least he could repay his faithful backers who have punted him off the boards for next Wednesday's contest. Paddy Power's Paul Binfield said: "The Japanese raider is by far our worst result in York's marquee event and is now only marginally above 3-1 having opened at 16s. "Punters have really latched on to the four-year-old, partly due to the fact that he was too powerful for subsequent King George hero Calandagan in the Dubai Sheema Classic. "But also because he has made huge each-way appeal in an ante post market that is currently three places on offer although there is every chance the race will cut up significantly and less than eight take part reducing the places to two. "He's probably close to the bottom of his price now and provided Delacroix and Ombudsman also take part, we look set for an absolute blockbuster on the Knavesmire."
