Pune: Students seeking admission to the first year of junior college (FYJC) for the 2025–26 academic year can submit their application forms online from May 19-28, according to a govt resolution (GR) issued on Tuesday. The Pune divisional directorate of education has released a list of 12 documents that students must keep ready to upload during the online form submission to ensure a smooth admission process. Until last year, the online centralised admission process (CAP) was limited to six civic zones — Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Nashik, Amravati, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. However, starting this year, the system will be implemented across the state.Jyoti Parihar, assistant director at the deputy director of education office, Pune division, said that they will act against private managements for any delay or denial of admission for the academic year, and even take legal action if necessary. "No admission can be made to the school management through any system other than the online one," Parihar told TOI, adding that each student can submit only one application — if they want to change the stream in any rounds, they can do so.The latest GR also warns of legal action if students submit forged documents during admission. "Alteration of Std X marksheet will result in debarment from Std XI admission for the year 2025-26," it said.Part II of the form can be filled after the declaration of the Std X results, while part one can be filled from May 19 onwards. The admissions to seats reserved under in-house, management, and minority quotas will be held during the zero round before regular rounds."Four general rounds will be organised and the best of five marks in the board exams will be considered for merit. After the four general rounds, a special round — which will be open for all — will be organised for two days on a first-come, first-served basis. However, in case of more applications than available vacancies, admissions will be decided on a merit basis only on the basis of marks obtained in Std X. For this, admission will be given using a computerised system and online method," said the GR.Checklist:According to Jyoti Parihar, assistant director, deputy director of education office, Pune division, documents required by students to apply for FYJC admission include:1. PM Modi 3.0: Can the government deliver on jobs and private investment?

As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has completed 11 years in power, a key question looms over its economic legacy - has the Indian economy truly performed well under its watch? While supporters point to improved macroeconomic stability, critics often highlight the lack of progress in job creation and private investment. An analysis of key economic data provides a mixed but telling picture of the country's journey so far and the road of the most prominent indicators used to evaluate a government's economic record are GDP growth and inflation. During the UPA era (2004–2014), GDP growth averaged 6.8 percent. Under the Modi government, which took office in 2014, the average stands slightly lower at 6.2 percent. However, if the outlier years of the COVID-19 slump in 2020–21 and the subsequent rebound in 2021–22 are excluded, the adjusted average under Modi rises to 7.1 another major talking point - especially under the UPA government - has been a mixed story. During the UPA years, inflation averaged 5 percent. Under Modi, the number has been higher at 8.1 percent, although this increase is partly attributable to global volatility and changes in inflation benchmarks. Despite this, the Modi administration has received praise for maintaining relative stability in food prices, thanks to improved supply chains and quicker policy One factor that played a quiet but crucial role in controlling inflation has been the global crude oil price. When the Modi government came to power in June 2014, the Indian crude oil basket was priced at USD 107 per barrel. By June 2025, the price had dropped to US 67.38 per barrel. Despite the depreciation of the rupee over the years, the rupee cost per barrel is now 11 percent lower than it was 11 years ago. This favourable trend has significantly helped in managing inflation to leading economists, several macroeconomic indicators suggest that India's economic fundamentals remain strong. Inflation is within the Reserve Bank of India's comfort zone. Corporate and banking sector balance sheets are healthier compared to a decade ago. Fiscal data is transparent, the current account deficit is within manageable limits, and public debt remains low. India is expected to grow at 6.5 percent in FY26, although global uncertainty continues to pose two persistent concerns threaten to overshadow these achievements - sluggish private sector investment and a lack of formal job creation. These issues gained significant traction in recent state elections and were a major talking point during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. With rising automation, AI, and tech adoption, employment opportunities - particularly in the formal sector - are becoming scarcer. The government is increasingly looking to the private sector to generate jobs, but private players have indicated they need more policy of the bottleneck lies in unfinished reforms. Two major reform areas - land acquisition and labor codes - remain mired in political resistance. The Modi government's initial attempt at land reform in 2014 was rolled back after widespread protests. Although labor codes have been passed by Parliament, their implementation remains stalled as several states have delayed India moves to sign more free trade agreements, these structural reforms become more pressing to ensure competitiveness and sustained economic roadblocks don't end there. Plans for privatization and asset monetisation - once touted as critical to funding infrastructure and reducing the fiscal burden - have been put on hold. With coalition politics making a comeback in Modi's third term, such strategic initiatives may now require more political negotiation. However, with a fresh mandate and regained political capital, the government may accelerate action in the coming challenges continue to emerge. The World Bank recently revised India's GDP forecast for FY25 down to 6.3 percent from an earlier estimate of 6.7 percent, attributing the cut to weaker global demand and a slowdown in investment growth. Nevertheless, India is still expected to be the fastest-growing major economy in the world. The World Bank also highlighted positive trends such as contained inflation, improving fiscal indicators, and a slow but steady decline in public debt. It recommended lowering tariffs and strengthening fiscal discipline to stimulate global economic Modi 3.0 begins, the economic path forward is lined with both opportunities and challenges. While India's macroeconomic foundation appears resilient, the missing piece - jobs and private investment - will be the key to sustaining long-term growth and addressing rising voter Watch

US trade pact set for early finish: Piyush Goyal

India and the US are on track to seal a trade agreement before the deadline of fall 2025 set by PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal told ET in an interview. Goyal, who is on a four-day visit to Switzerland and Sweden, said the rare earth magnet supply squeeze by China is a wakeup call. Edited excerpts: Trade has now acquired a geopolitical dimension. How can India secure its interests? Today, India is sitting on the high table. We have free trade agreements (FTAs) with most developed nations—Japan and Korea, Australia, UAE, the four EFTA (European Free Trade Association) countries. The FTA with the UK has already closed. We are in active dialogue with the US for a bilateral trade agreement, with the European Union for a free trade agreement… with Peru, Chile, and Oman. The entire world recognises India's growing strength. 'Perfect Opportunity' The world recognises the decisive leadership Prime Minister Modi brings to the table and the opportunity of associating with the fastest growing large economy, which is expected to grow from $4 trillion to $5 trillion. It's a perfect opportunity. And, I think, no country would like to miss it. India is in talks for multiple FTAs, some with advanced economies. How is the government preparing Indian industry to ensure that they can take advantage of these agreements? Also, are there policy interventions that are required to help them do so? For the last 11 years of the Modi government, focus has been on ease of doing business, deregulating the economy, making it less difficult to meet regulatory compliances, and decriminalising our laws. He launched Make in India to encourage investments in the manufacturing sector. We have created a framework within the country with strong macroeconomic fundamentals. The government is ensuring that demand in the country remains robust and grows so that investors from around the world feel interested in working in India. I think the perfect foundation has been laid. Now with these free trade agreements, continuity, stability and predictability of policy will be available for our industry in advanced and developed economies, which is important for investment or business. A case in point is the global capability centres (GCCs). During Covid, the nimbleness with which Prime Minister Modi adapted policy to ensure continuity of business earned India the tag of a trusted partner. All the work that people realised could be done working from home can also be done working from India. That's opened up a plethora of opportunities in terms of jobs. Millions of Indians are now working in GCCs. They're earning us billions of dollars of foreign exchange, adding to our construction and real estate ecosystem, providing tertiary jobs. Nearly 2,000 of them are in India today. Where are we on the US trade agreement and is the baseline 10% tariff a sticking point? We don't negotiate through the press. We negotiate on the negotiating table. When can we expect the deal to come through? We (US and India) are both committed to a bilateral trade agreement. Our leaders have set a task of completing the BTA by fall 2025. We are well on track to complete it before that. Supply chains are facing new challenges. The rare earth magnet issue has again brought into focus the issue of secure supply chains. What is India planning to do to ring-fence its industry? It is a wake-up call not just for Indian businesses but for businesses around the world. And this wake-up call will help all supply chains to reassess their resilience and their dependability on certain geographies. This will prompt them to look for trusted partners. For India, while we may have a problem with permanent magnets in the short run, we are already engaged with industry and with our startup ecosystem to find solutions. Even during the course of my stay in Switzerland, we discussed with some companies how they are coming around to address this problem. And I assure you that we are solving this problem. But this wake-up call will help people reassess the resilience of their supply chains and surely attract business to India. IT services exports have helped make up the goods trade deficit. Is AI a threat to our services exports? Certainly, some work and jobs will get impacted by AI. We cannot deny that. But we cannot cry over that, we have to find solutions. We have to adopt AI. We have to learn and retrain our people to be able to engage with AI. We have to leverage AI to our advantage so that instead of the current work that we are doing, we'll probably do even higher value-added work. At the end of the day, I believe the human mind is always supreme, because AI is largely dependent on what you feed into the system. I think there will be a rejig in the way work is done. There will be a need to retrain and reskill our people, but end of the day, I can assure you, India will come out the winner even in this. The budget had announced an export promotion mission. How soon is it likely to be unveiled? We have already worked out the areas which will be the focus of the available resources with the ministry. The effort is to promote new exporters, look at new markets and new products. The budget and the resources will help, particularly our MSME sector, our job generating sectors, our farmers, and to expand in the international markets. (The reporter was in Switzerland and Sweden at the invitation of the commerce and industry ministry)
