Jamui doctor gets Rs 20 lakh extortion call
Patna: Suryanand Singh, a surgeon based in Jamui, was allegedly threatened over the phone by an unidentified caller demanding Rs 20 lakh as extortion. According to the police, the call was made from the Deoghar jail in Jharkhand on June 4 around 2pm, with the caller identifying himself as Parihar. The call was made to the doctor while he was at his Jamui– Malaypur Road hospital. Jamui SP Madan Kumar Anand, confirmed the incident and said: "An FIR has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act. The matter is under active investigation."

Madhya Pradesh official embezzled Rs 13 crore meant for Swachh Bharat scheme: Probe
An internal investigation by the Betul district administration in Madhya Pradesh has revealed embezzlement and financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 13.21 crore in the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural) scheme in Bhimpur and Chicholi Janpad Panchayats. Swachh Bharat Mission (Rural), a centrally sponsored scheme, is administered at the district level in Betul, a tribal dominated district in southern Madhya Pradesh, by the District Panchayat and implemented through Janpad and Gram Panchayats. Activities under the scheme include the construction of toilets, garbage carts, soak pits, composting units, and other waste management infrastructure. Payments are processed via the Public Financial Management System (PFMS), with funds transferred to Gram Panchayats, implementation agencies, or beneficiaries after technical and administrative approval. On March 6, discrepancies were found in payments made to Rajendra Singh Parihar, a block coordinator of the scheme, prompting the Collector and the CEO of the District Panchayat to order an investigation. The CEO of Bhimpur Janpad Panchayat conducted a formal inquiry, while verbal directions were given to the CEO of Chicholi Janpad Panchayat to look into similar issues during Parihar's posting there. According to investigators, during his tenure in Chicholi (November 2, 2021 to March 5, 2025) and Bhimpur (January 31, 2023 to October 24, 2024), Parihar allegedly facilitated unauthorised payments amounting to Rs 13,21,71,220. A scrutiny of bank transfers revealed that the payments were made to a construction firm, an auto firm and bank accounts based in Indore and Waraseoni, according to the investigation. The probe also showed that no work related to these payments was carried out in Betul district, no technical or administrative approvals were issued, and no related documents were maintained in the office. The district administration has alleged that Parihar employed the use of two computer operators to misuse the 'digital signature certificate' of the CEO for the Swachh Bharat Mission scheme 'without the permission or knowledge of the CEO, possibly from a location outside the Janpad Panchayat offices, to facilitate unauthorised and fraudulent financial transactions'. Betul Superintendent of Police Nishchal N Jhariya told The Indian Express that Parihar is absconding and that an FIR was registered on March 19 against 12 persons under sections related to cheating. 'Parihar is absconding in this case. We have not arrested anyone, and an SIT is looking through government records to make a watertight case. There is a possibility that more government officials will be made accused in the case and the amount (of money involved) may also increase,' the SP said. Betul Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi acknowledged that the accused had taken advantage of some loopholes. 'The digital signature certificate was misused, and when the amount was siphoned off, we did not receive any OTP alerts,' Suryavanshi told The Indian Express. Suryavanshi said the government has begun monthly reviews of all development works carried out in the district. 'We have already initiated disciplinary action against the accused. His property has been identified, and we will recover the stolen amount. Furthermore, we are plugging the loopholes. All digital signatures will be secured in pendrives by officials, and a monitoring team is reviewing all development work to ensure this doesn't happen again,' he said.

Dholera special investment region sees 10 times rise in land prices in 10 years, say developers
(PTI) Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat, a planned smart city under the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, has seen around 10 times appreciation in land prices in the past decade on increased interest from investors, say developers. As per available industry data, prices per square yard across various Town Planning (TP) Schemes in the Dholera region have increased to a high of ₹7,000 to ₹10,000, Lalit Parihar, the founder and Managing Director of Dholera-based developer Aaiji Group, said. Prices vary from ₹3,000 to ₹7,000 per square yard for other TP schemes, showing 10 times growth in the past 10 years, Parihar said. The 109-kilometer expressway is advancing swiftly, while projects like the Bhimnath-Dholera broad-gauge rail line and Vande Metro will further boost regional connectivity, the developers said. 'With infrastructure now visible on the ground, investor confidence is at an all-time high. The growth in land prices is a reflection of this shift. This data further reinforces Dholera's emergence as a high-potential real estate destination,' Parihar said. Dholera ISR is rapidly emerging as a prime investment hub attracting investment from more than 100 companies, including Tata Electronics' ₹91,000 crore semiconductor project.

"No need to panic": Kishtwar's MLA Shagun Parihar amid tensions between India, Pakistan
Kishtwar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 10 (ANI): Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Kishtwar, Shagun Parihar, stated that there is no cause for public concern and assured that the town has a sufficient supply of essential items. Speaking to ANI on Friday, Parihar said everyone is proud of India's armed forces and will support any decision made by the army. 'There is no need to panic. The Indian armed forces can handle any situation, and Prime Minister Modi is monitoring the entire situation,' Parihar said. 'We have adequate stock of essential items. There is no need for anyone to worry. We are proud of our armed forces and we will support any decision taken by the army,' she added. Meanwhile, the Indian Army retaliated strongly in the Jammu sector in response to the drone attacks on Indian cities by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), Defence Sources said on Saturday. Amid escalating tensions with Pakistan, drones were spotted at 26 locations ranging from Baramulla in the north to Bhuj in the south, along both the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC) on Friday. The drones are suspected to be armed and pose potential threats to both civilian and military targets. The locations where drones were spotted include Baramulla, Srinagar, Avantipora, Nagrota, Jammu, Ferozpur, Pathankot, Fazilka, Lalgarh Jatta, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bhuj, Kuarbet, and Lakhi Nala. In a serious incident, an armed drone targeted a civilian area in Punjab's Ferozpur, severely injuring members of a local family. The injured received immediate medical assistance, and the area has been sanitised by security forces. The Indian Armed Forces are on high alert. All aerial threats are being tracked and engaged using counter-drone systems. Defence sources said the situation is under close and constant watch, and prompt action is being taken wherever necessary. Citizens, especially in border areas, have been advised to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow safety instructions from local authorities. As a safety measure, a blackout has been imposed in villages of the Santalpur taluka in Gujarat's Patan district, which borders Pakistan. FYJC online admission process to start from May 19 for academic year 2025-26
1 2 3 Pune: Students seeking admission to the first year of junior college (FYJC) for the 2025–26 academic year can submit their application forms online from May 19-28, according to a govt resolution (GR) issued on Pune divisional directorate of education has released a list of 12 documents that students must keep ready to upload during the online form submission to ensure a smooth admission process. Until last year, the online centralised admission process (CAP) was limited to six civic zones — Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, Nagpur, Nashik, Amravati, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. However, starting this year, the system will be implemented across the Parihar, assistant director at the deputy director of education office, Pune division, said that they will act against private managements for any delay or denial of admission for the academic year, and even take legal action if necessary.
