ONE of the cheapest stays in London is a trendy 'urban' hostel - although thankfully they have private rooms as well as bunkbeds.

Where is Generator Hotel?
Hostel chain Generator is popular with backpackers wanting an affordable bed for the night.
The London branch near Kings Cross Station has a number of private rooms for people on a budget.
What is the hotel like?
The hotel is tucked down a quiet side street, less than 10 minutes walk from London St Pancras.
There is a 24-hour reception, as well as a travel shop for any forgotten items such s padlocks, towers or adaptors.
Laundry facilities, bike hire (from £6 a day) and luggage storage are also on-site.
If you want to keep the kids entertained then there is shuffleboard at the hostel and a photo booth in the cafe.
What are the rooms like?
The cheapest option is a shared bunkbed room, which sleeps up to 12 people, with options for single and mixed sex.
However, if you can't face sharing with 11 strangers, there are thankfully private rooms that aren't much more expensive.
They are basic, with double beds, small desks and complimentary water.
There are hangers as well as a hairdryer, but don't expect much else.
Each private room has an en-suite with complimentary toiletries but you will need to bring your own towel or rent one at reception.
Want the best night's sleep? Ask for room 216 or 217 as they are quieter.
It's one of London's most affordable options, but bring ear plugs just in case of some rowdy school kids returning late at night.
Private Superior King rooms start from £75 a night, working out to around £38 each - a bargain for the central location.
Dogs are also allowed in private rooms, costing £25.

What is there to eat and drink?
You are best eating out for dinner, as there are limited options in the hotel restaurant which serves mainly burgers and pizza.
Thankfully Kings Cross is a short walk away, with amazing restaurants from the Korean Kimchee to the Sri Lankan Hoppers.
The hotel breakfast buffet is extra but is an easy choice with continental options from £9.50.
Or go to the train station Wetherspoons for a bargain Full English breakfast.
Is the hotel family friendly?
Guests who have kids aged aged 3 years or younger can stay for free in private rooms, with free cots if requested before arrival depending on availability.
Is there access for guests with disabilities?
The hotel has a wheelchair accessible entrance to the side, as well as a number of rooms that are accessible, including both a twin and eight-bed dorm.

From the moment my friend Jen and I checked in, the stresses of the working week began to melt away. Our junior suite was absolutely stunning, with every luxurious detail thoughtfully catered for. The separate living area was perfect for unwinding with a glass of something, while the generous bedroom featured a huge, ultra-comfy bed and a gorgeous bathroom stocked with indulgent White Company toiletries. Wasting no time, we slipped into our robes and slippers and made our way down to the pool and spa, ready to fully embrace the relaxation that awaited us. The area was every bit as stylish and modern as the rest of the hotel, featuring a pristine pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and a fabulous outdoor hot tub. With plenty of loungers and seating both indoors and out, there was ample space to stretch out and unwind in the calming environment. As the late spring sun bathed the space in warmth, we made a beeline for the hot tub, sinking into its soothing bubbles and letting the tranquillity wash over us. Time seemed to fly by as we chatted away, putting the world to rights, and before we knew it, it was time to head back to our room and get ready for dinner in the hotel's restaurant. We were especially excited about this, having heard wonderful things about the Rosette-winning menu from The Curious Kitchen — and I can say, hand on heart, it did not disappoint. We began by sharing the bread platter and tempura prawns, which were crispy, juicy, and sublimely succulent. For the main course, I opted for the Sri Lankan chicken curry, served with fluffy rice, homemade flatbread, chutney, and pickles. It was so aromatic and delicious that I could have licked the bowl clean! Fraser Suites - Glasgow Jen chose the creamy carbonara, which she described as rich and utterly satisfying. Although we were stuffed, dessert is always a must, so we shared the irresistible ice cream sundae. It was indulgent, delightful, and the perfect way to end a truly wonderful meal. The next morning, our wellness journey continued in the most delightful way. After a healthy yet hearty breakfast of poached eggs and avocado, we made our way to the spa for the Ultimate Glow treatment — 80 minutes of pure bliss. The experience began with a soothing foot rub, followed by a back exfoliation and massage, a rejuvenating facial, and culminated in a heavenly head and scalp massage. I was absolutely floating on air afterwards and took full advantage of the relaxation room. With cosy beds, soft throws, plump pillows, calming music, and a selection of herbal teas and flavoured water to keep us hydrated, it was the perfect space to unwind and let the serenity of the morning settle in. We spent a second lovely evening exploring nearby Knutsford, with its vibrant atmosphere and fantastic selection of bars and restaurants before another night of sleep bliss. It makes for a perfect staycation destination. If there is one thing that Scots are known for, it is our friendliness. Tourists visiting Scotland frequently rave about the welcoming attitude of locals, who are usually quick to offer advice or directions. As previously reported by the Daily Record, the 10 "most welcoming destinations" in the world were revealed in 2024. Placing at number one on the list was Perthshire in Scotland. The study, which was carried out by saw the experts take into consideration more than 309 million verified customer reviews. Perthshire area beat out locations such as the Penghu Islands in Taiwan, Trentino in Italy, and Erongo in Namibia. Perthshire is a historic county situated in the heart of central Scotland. Also known as the 'Big County' or 'the Shire', it is regarded as among the most picturesque regions in Scotland. Perthshire features more than 200,000 acres of forest, making it a popular destination for those keen to do a bit of wildlife spotting. There are also many friendly towns and villages located around the region. One Perthshire destination that was singled out by was Auchterarder. The town was even named the second "most welcoming" in the UK behind Brampton in Norfolk. Auchterarder is located north of the Ochil Hills in Perth and Kinross, around 13 miles out of the city of Perth. The town is home to approximately 6,000 people, and is best known for the historic Gleneagles Hotel. Gleneagles is a five-star luxury hotel, spa, and golf resort that dates back to 1924. On Sykes Holiday Cottages, 32 Cruachan Lodge has a rating of 4.2 out of five based on 53 reviews. Visitors have praised the accommodation as "very quiet" and "peaceful", though another guest described it as "not good". Elsewhere, Oak Cottage in the nearby Perthshire village of Comrie can be booked through The property, which features three bedrooms and sleeps up to six people, can be booked for £632 for three nights. Oak Cottage is a detached holiday let set within a lawned garden with furniture. Inside, there is a living room with a wood burner, a fully equipped kitchen, and a modern family bathroom with a shower over bath. On Oak Cottage has received only positive reviews from visitors. However, some holidaymakers may not like the property's location and prefer to be closer to Auchterarder.
