This series is set to be one worth watching, as two of the brightest and youngest stars in the game will be at center stage: Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.
These two superstars will do their best to lead their team to the NBA Finals for the first time in their careers.
Who Has Home-Court Advantage?
The top-seeded Thunder are set to host the sixth-seeded Timberwolves beginning Tuesday, May 20. This marks Oklahoma City's first trip to the Western Conference Finals in nearly a decade. The franchise last reached this stage in 2016, where they fell in a seven-game battle to the 73-win Golden State Warriors.
Now, with a new-look roster and momentum on their side, the Thunder aim to secure just their second NBA Finals appearance since relocating to Oklahoma City.

Although the Thunder are the No. 1 seed, their road to the conference finals was significantly more challenging than that of the Timberwolves. It only took Minnesota 10 games between the first two rounds to reach the conference finals.
As for the Thunder, while they made their first-round series look easy with a sweep over the Memphis Grizzlies, the 2023 NBA champion Nuggets took them to the brink of elimination with an epic seven-game series.
The Thunder handled the Grizzlies in the first two games at home. In the next two on the road, the Grizzlies gave the Thunder a run for their money.
The Timberwolves handled their first two series with ease. They defeated the No. 3 seed Los Angeles Lakers in five games. Minnesota dominated Game 1 in that series, lost Game 2, and executed down the stretch in Games 3, 4 and 5.
In their next series against the No. 7 seed Golden State Warriors, they struggled in Game 1 in front of their home fans. Although Stephen Curry suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out for the rest of the game, Minnesota dropped the first game of that series. However, in the next four games, the Timberwolves proved to be the better, superior and healthier team.
Regular Season Results
The 68-win Thunder were elite all season long. Their record in the tough Western Conference was as good as it could be, collecting a 39-13 record. However, two of these 13 losses from West teams can come from the Timberwolves.
The Thunder and Timberwolves split the season series at two games apiece. Minnesota averaged 118.8 points per game, 48.8 rebounds, 25.3 assists and shot 45.1 percent from the field in the season against Oklahoma City.
The Thunder averaged 118.0 points per game, 44.0 rebounds, 27.3 assists and 46.6 percent field goal shooting against Minnesota.
Players to Watch
While all eyes will be on the superstars like Edwards and Gilgeous-Alexander, and rightfully so. There is much star power in this series.
Aside from those two, the two players from each team to watch for in this series are Timberwolves' Julius Randle and Thunder's Jalen Williams. Randle, who had struggled in the playoffs for the past handful of seasons, is proving to be a difference-maker for Minnesota.
He's playing the best ball of his career and in the most important time, averaging 23.9 points on 50.9 percent shooting.
Williams did not have the strongest semifinals or playoffs, for that matter. He's shooting poorly from the field, and his numbers are well below those of the regular season. Williams needs to be better if the Thunder wants any shot at the title.
Prediction
These two teams are here for a reason; however, in this series, it's hard to count out the Thunder.
They have the likely MVP Gilgeous-Alexander on their side, and they have a ton of perimeter defenders to contain Edwards.
The Thunder will get over the Timberwolves in a hard-fought seven-game series.

Pittsburgh Steelers Sign Former Seahawks Cornerback

The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding another player to their secondary ahead of their preseason finale. The Pittsburgh Steelers are bolstering the depth in their secondary just days before their preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the Steelers are signing rookie cornerback Kam Alexander, who was released by the Seattle Seahawks last week. In the preseason, he played just six snaps against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1 and allowed a 41-yard reception. Alexander was an undrafted free agent from the 2025 NFL Draft out of Oregon and joined the Seahawks in late July. He also participated in rookie minicamps with Seattle and the Atlanta Falcons but did not receive a contract at the time. After transferring to Oregon in 2024, Alexander appeared in 12 games, recording four tackles and one interception. Prior to Oregon, he played at UTSA, where he earned first All-AAC honors with two interceptions, 15 passes defensed, 34 tackles and one sack in 2023, and Sam Houston State. Alexander was also named defensive MVP of the Frisco Bowl following his team's win over Marshall. A native of Manvel, Texas, Alexander measured at 5-foot-11, 183 pounds at his pro day and recorded a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 41.5-inch vertical jump and 11-foot-1 broad jump. Ronnie 2K explains why Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was named NBA 2K26 cover athlete

It's been quite the year for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Like SpongeBob after Patrick opened his closet filled with trophies, he brought home about every award imaginable to complement his championship ring. The Oklahoma City Thunder had one of the most dominant seasons the NBA has ever seen. They had a historic 68-14 regular-season record with the greatest point differential. Gilgeous-Alexander helped them cross the finish line in the playoffs with a Game 7 win in the 2025 NBA Finals. After an offseason filled with celebration, the accolades kept coming for Gilgeous-Alexander. He was named the NBA 2K26 cover athlete. He's tied with Nikola Jokic for the highest-rated player at 98 overall. After saying he was on the cusp of being on the cover, Ronnie 2K told Thunder Wire the decision-making process to make it official in this year's edition. "Yeah, I mean, what a no-brainer in a lot of ways. Looking back now, obviously coming off a massively successful season, leading the league in points, putting out numbers across the board, winning an MVP and winning a championship. And then having celebrated this championship massively over the course of the offseason," Ronnie 2K said. "I mean, there is no bigger story than Shai and what a partner." After three straight seasons of superb-efficient 30-plus point campaigns, Gilgeous-Alexander has cemented his spot among the all-time great players. His improbable rise to superstardom has ascended the Thunder into dynasty talks and the popular pick to repeat as champions next year. "When we talked last year, I was saying, 'That's a guy that's on a very short list of covers.' I think I even said, like, 'He will definitely be a cover star at some point in the course of his career.' If I had told you it was going to be the very next year, I don't know. But I'm so excited for Shai, for all the success, obviously, beyond 2K," Ronnie 2K said. "The big story is the Thunder with us and a lot of the guys that are highly rated. Shai really is top of the list, in the news cycle, and being a great partner for us for 2K26." Being on the NBA 2K cover is something most NBA players dream of accomplishing. Not only would it be a surreal feat that sends them back to their childhood, but it's also an exclusive club of players that say you're one of the faces of the league. Thunder fans won't have to wait long to grab their own copy. NBA 2K26 is set to release on Sept. 5. The video game will be a nice warmup to the 2025-26 regular season, which kicks off with Media Day later in the same month.

Stephen A. Smith & Samantha Are A Perfect Daddy-Daughter Duo

Unique Nicole Things weren't looking too bright earlier this year for seasoned sports analyst Stephen A. Smith. A looming beef with superstar athlete LeBron James, public backlash for his critique of Serena Williams joining Kendrick Lamar during the Super Bowl LIX halftime show and even basketball fans grilling him for playing solitaire on his phone during the NBA Finals were just some of the instances that had Smith looking more like The Grinch. Then something unexpected happened at the top of summer: we met his teenage daughter, Samantha Smith. What started as a simple guest appearance during ESPN's coverage of Game 6 in the NBA Finals back in June quickly became a viral moment for Samantha, with many sports fans requesting to see her on a regular basis. The moment benefited Stephen as well, showing a softer, more humane side of his personality compared to the hothead many see on a weekly basis as host of First Take . Bringing their dynamic daddy-daughter duo act to ESPN Radio recently via The Stephen A. Smith Show , Sam worked her magic once again by bringing the laughs with fivehead jokes aplenty, and even got Poppa Smith to blush on his own like a truly proud dad. RELATED: Stephen A. While it would be amazing to get The Stephen & Samantha Show in a foreseeable future, the teen queen actually is building a name for herself as a budding actress. She got her start back in 2022 in The Best Man: The Final Chapt ers, a series revival of the hit film franchise by Malcolm D. Lee, and followed up in 2023 by guest starring in the short-lived Disney+ series, Saturdays . This year, she made her debut on film with the Tubi original Wrong Place, Wrong Time co-starring former Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood alum Apryl Jones. The trailer sees Samantha getting in on the action, proving we've only began to see what she's truly capable of. We're sure Hollywood has much more to offer Sam in her budding acting career, but for the sake of sports fans we sure do hope The Smiths get the ball rolling in order to strike gold on a highly-requested podcast idea.
