But are the Spurs ready to make that leap? They were just 5 games out of the play-in last season, and you could argue that had Wembanyama and Fox not experienced season-ending injuries, San Antonio was in line to earn a play-in spot. A full season with their stars, a second-year leap from Castle, and contributions from new additions like Harper, Luke Kornet, and Kelly Olynyk, even in a tough Western Conference, could be enough to help them live up to the hype.

With 22 nationally televised games, the team will be under the critical eye of fans who don't watch the team night in and night out. This team has the talent to handle it. They wouldn't be identified as the young team to watch if they didn't. This Spurs squad has officially moved out of the intriguing young core, to a legit playoff contender in the West.

Braves third baseman Austin Riley's injury-shortened season ends following core surgery
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta Braves third baseman Austin Riley will miss the remainder of the season after having core injury surgery on Thursday. The Braves announced the surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. Riley, who was placed on the 10-day injured list for the second time in two months on Aug. 4 with a strained lower abdominal muscle, is expected to return in time for spring training next year. Riley first landed on the IL on July 12 with a strained abdomen. He returned on July 25 and finished the season hitting .260 with 16 homers and 54 RBI. The Braves also claimed right-hander Cal Quantrill off waivers from the Miami Marlins and optioned right-hander Dane Dunning to Triple-A Gwinnett. Also, the team added outfielder Jake Fraley to its roster after optioning RHP Connor Seabold to Gwinnett. Fraley was designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Sunday before being claimed by the Braves. "I was a little inconsistent in getting to the same position with the kick, so they felt the toe tap would allow me to get to the ground earlier and let my body sequence the way it's meant to." Bo Naylor is not the only Guardians slugger struggling offensively While Naylor blasted four hits in Sunday's game, he knows he is still not out of the hole. He understands there is still work that needs to be done, but he is happy to see the progress he is making. "It's been a good progression. There are some things to clean up and work on, but it's been going well so far." An improved Naylor at the plate could be exactly what this club needs to get things going as the regular season continues to dwindle. The Guardians currently sit with a .227 team batting average, the worst in all of MLB.
