Raducanu gets wildcard for Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open
Grand Slam-winner Emma Raducanu will compete at this year's Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open having been awarded the final wildcard spot for the qualifiers, with fans able to watch the British star in action on the opening day of the tournament free of charge.
The WTA 500 event returns to the International Tennis Centre, Zayed Sports City, for its third edition, running from February 1-8, as a host of the world's best female players descend on the UAE capital for what promises to be a thrilling tournament.
A star-studded line-up has now been strengthened by the addition of Raducanu, 22, who returns to Abu Dhabi for the second consecutive year.
The highlight of Raducanu's career to date was undoubtedly her sensational US Open triumph in 2021 when, at the age of 18 and having entered the tournament as a qualifier, she secured the title without dropping a single set.
Having beaten the likes of Belinda Bencic and Maria Sakkari on her way to the final, she claimed the trophy following a 6-4, 6-3 win over Canada's Leylah Fernandez, a player she could potentially face in Abu Dhabi.
A popular player with fans in the Middle East, Raducanu received fantastic support at last year's Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, where she produced a brilliant display to overcome Marie Bouzkova in the Round of 32, before exiting at the hands of Ons Jabeur in the last 16.
Earlier this week, Raducanu was beaten by Cristina Bucsa at the Singapore Open, while she also competed at the recent Australian Open, losing to five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek in the third round after beating Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova, who will both be lining up in Abu Dhabi.
Raducanu joins a brilliant player line-up in the capital, which includes current champion Elena Rybakina, three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur, Australian Open semi-finalist Paula Badosa, winner of the inaugural Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open Belinda Bencic, and last year's beaten finalist Daria Kasatkina.

Those fans attending can look forward to a Mubadala Tennis Village which, at 15,000 square metres, is double the size of previous years.
Made up of five separate districts, the Village features a whole host of tennis and sports-themed activations, along with a huge selection of F&B vendors, catering to all tastes. Live music, on Saturday, will be provided by Carl Lafrenais, who has shared a stage with the likes of Bon Jovi and Sting, and the FTM Band, while talented duo Gemma & JK will be performing on Sunday, making the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open the perfect day out.
As well as having the opportunity to observe Raducanu in action at close quarters, spectators attending on Saturday will also be able to watch the tournament draw take place from approximately 4.30pm in the Mubadala Tennis Village.

Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina was dumped out of the Queen's Club Championships on Friday by qualifier Tatjana Maria, who set up a semi-final against Australian Open champion Madison Keys. German mother of two Maria regrouped after failing to serve for the match to complete a 6-4, 7-6 (7/4) win. A single break in the first set put the 37-year-old Maria in charge and she maintained her grip, breaking twice to lead 5-3 in the second. But Kazakh fourth seed Rybakina, Wimbledon champion in 2022, upped her game to level at 5-5 and the set went to a tie-break. 'It's like a perfect example to never give up and to always keep going, doesn't matter what. 'I'm still here and living this dream. I have my family with me and amazing team.' She added: 'I'm super, super proud to be here in the semi-final and I hope in a few years you will see my daughter (aged 11) at the same stage here.' Earlier, US second seed Keys came from a set down to beat Russian fifth seed Diana Shnaider 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Zverev beats Nakashima: Top seed and home favourite Alexander Zverev beat Brandon Nakashima 7-5 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Stuttgart Open on Friday while Americans Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton also reached the last four. Zverev is seeking his first grasscourt title and he was involved in a tight opening set which was tied at 5-5 when the German switched gears in the final two games to clinch it. But Zverev was far more dominant against his American opponent in the second set as he finished the match with 31 winners in a contest that lasted 90 minutes. 'I'm in the semi-finals now and now I really want to focus on trying to do the best I can,' Zverev said. 'I know the opponents are going to get tougher but I'm really happy on the court right now I'm really happy in Stuttgart and I'm looking forward to the next two days.' Zverev will play third seed Shelton next after the American, who was virtually unstoppable on his first serve, beat Jiri Lehecka 6-4 6-4, firing 18 aces. Shelton was so dominant in the second set that he did not lose a single point on serve while he won 100% of his first-serve points in the match, with victory ensuring he will break into the top 10 for the first time in his career. Keys leads American charge into quarter-finals at Queen's Club; Khachanov sails in Den Bosch
Second seed Madison Keys powered into the quarter-finals of the Queen's Club Championships with a 6-3 6-2 win over Anastasia Zakharova on Wednesday while fellow Americans Emma Navarro and Amanda Anisimova also progressed. Australian Open champion Keys had an early wobble in the opening set in her first grasscourt match of the season when she found herself 3-1 down as she tried to find her footing. But she did not panic and quickly recovered to win the next five games, sealing the set with an ace straight down the middle. Zakharova had her moments in the second set but could not contend with the power of Keys, who converted five break points and clinched victory with an unreturned serve to wrap up the contest in 68 minutes. 'Always tough to play your first match on the grass, especially against someone who's already played a few matches. But overall, pretty happy and happy that I get another match here,' Keys said. 'The first couple of games felt like I was just trying to find my footing. Once I did, I feel like I played really well.' Third seed Navarro overcame a nightmare opening set and also saved match point to beat Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia 1-6 7-6(4) 6-3.
