ESPN's FPI Has a New No. 1 Team Before the 2025 College Football Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
We're roughly three months away from the start of the 2025 college football season.
To no surprise, the Texas Longhorns are one of the most talked about teams in the country. After reaching the College Football Playoff semifinal the last two seasons, coupled with phenom Arch Manning taking over at quarterback, there's understandably high expectations for Texas this year.

According to ESPN's updated FPI (Football Power Index), the Longhorns are now the No. 1 team in the nation for the upcoming season. The update released on June 2 places Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and Penn State behind Texas.
Ohio State is the reigning national champion and deserves its placing in the top five, but the Buckeyes will have to host the Longhorns for the first game of the season on Aug. 30. The winner of this non-conference matchup should become the heavy favorite to take home the national title.
It's hard to argue against Steve Sarkisian's squad holding the top spot in the ranking. Texas returns numerous playmakers on both sides of the ball, including Anthony Hill, Colin Simmons, Michael Taaffe, Ryan Wingo and Cedric Baxter among others.

The Longhorns also landed several immediate impact players via the transfer portal this offseason. One of the key additions via the portal is former Cal tight end Jack Endris. With former starting tight end Gunnar Helm departing for the NFL, Endris is expected to start at the position for the Longhorns this year. He's ranked the No. 2 tight end in the nation per PFF.
We'll see if Texas can live up to the massive expectations soon enough.

Museum in Seymour opens new wing with annual festival

SEYMOUR (KFDX/KJTL)— The Whiteside Museum of Natural History is celebrating the opening of a new museum expansion through their annual Permian Fest. This year's Permian Fest kicked off with the grand opening of the museum's new wing, which doubles the size of the original building. So, while families and prehistory enthusiasts could come and check out guest lectures and shop outside the museum, the views inside the building's new wing were another sight to behold. While Permian Fest is usually a big driver for fundraising on its own, the new wing is generating a lot of enthusiasm for the museum's future from the guests and museum staff, like assistant director Holly Simon. 'Locals here don't get to experience going to big museums, and our museum was definitely very popular with the local community,' Simon said. 'But now that we have a giant Ceratosaurus skeleton and a big mammoth skeleton, it's really cool that we get to bring that big city museum experience to the locals.' The expansion adds a total of 9,000 square feet to the museum's footprint, and the new space allows for reorganizations of old exhibits and the expansion of others. The new Bakker Dinosaur Hall and the Sundell Mammal Hall are two such examples. The fossil preparation lab also got a major expansion. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Food Truck Championship returns to Graham for the 10th year

GRAHAM (KFDX/KJTL)— The Food Truck Championship in Graham is all wrapped up after its 10th year in the city. The event has come a long way over its ten-year history with the city of Graham, and it's grown each year. For this year, trucks came from as far away as Lubbock and Oklahoma City while also saving some space for a few local favorites. As the festival grew each year, the town square it occupies was built up to accommodate the growing number of competing trucks. Now, Zach Balch, with Visit Graham, believes the city and the food truck industry are practically tied at the hip. 'We can now do miniature food truck festivals whenever we want to,' Balch said. 'We have a little stage over there that was gifted to us by some folks in our community and so the food truck has really become part of our culture and, dare I say, even the heritage now that it's ten years into it.' On top of all the fun with the food trucks, the championships were capped off with a free concert by musical artist John Weathers. After the dust settled from the competition, only one food truck was crowned as this year's champion, and that honor belongs to local favorite, Razzle's Italian Ice. Texas lands first DT commitment from four-star Dylan Berymon

Texas lands first DT commitment from four-star Dylan Berymon BREAKING: Four-Star DL Dylan Berymon has Committed to Texas, he tells me for @on3recruits The 6'3 330 DL from Monroe, LA chose the Longhorns over Purdue 'AGTG Texas is the place to be!' — Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) June 8, 2025 Texas Longhorns have landed their first defensive tackle commitment of the 2026 recruiting class. Four-star, 6-foot-2, 320 pound Dylan Berymon of Louisiana has picked Texas over LSU, Purdue, Houston and North Carolina. Defensive tackle is a position of need for UT. Berymon is great start to a solid defensive tackle class. With a strong base and upfield push, Berymon should be an anchor at nose tackle, clogging up the middle to stop the run. Recruiting analysts had pegged Berymon as a future Boilermaker because of some pre-exhisting relationships. But in the end, Texas won out. He will join former Boilermaker and likely 2025 Texas starter Cole Brevard in the DT room. On3's Industry Rankings have Berymon ranked as the No. 172 overall prospect, the No. 19 defensive linema and the No. 8 player in Louisiana. Texas also has a pledge from Louisiana defensive back Hayward Howard. If both players end up signing, they would join Arch Manning, Derek Williams, Wardell Mack and Will Randle from The Boot.
