Amy Poehler is reuniting with this 'Parks and Recreation' collaborator for new show

USA Today07-05-2025

Amy Poehler and an old pal from "Parks and Recreation" are going digging for their next comedy hit.
Poehler and "Parks and Recreation" co-creator Michael Schur are set to work together again for the first time since the acclaimed NBC sitcom ended a decade ago. On May 7, Peacock announced it has picked up a new series from Schur and Poehler called "Dig." The pair are producing the show and co-writing the first episode together. Poehler will also star.
"Dig," based on the Kate Myers novel "Excavations," is described as a comedy series about four women working at an archeological dig in Greece who uncover "a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history," putting them at the center "of a high-stakes international conspiracy." No casting other than Poehler has been announced.
Among the series' executive producers are Morgan Sackett and David Miner, both of whom previously worked as producers on "Parks and Recreation."

Poehler starred as Leslie Knope, the deputy director of a local parks department in Indiana, for seven seasons on "Parks and Recreation" alongside Rashida Jones, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott and more stars. The series ended in February 2015 with a finale co-written by Schur and Poehler. Poehler later reprised the role of Leslie Knope in a special pandemic episode that aired in April 2020.
Since then, Schur, who created "Parks and Recreation" with Greg Daniels, went on to create comedies like "The Good Place" and "A Man on the Inside," both of which starred Ted Danson.
Meanwhile, Poehler has kept busy since "Parks" with parts including her lead voice role as Joy in the "Inside Out" franchise, and she reunited with Offerman for the NBC reality competition series "Making It" in 2018. In March, Poehler launched her own podcast, "Good Hang," on which she has interviewed several of her past co-stars including Jones, Tina Fey, Paul Rudd.

Jonathan Joss: Police Are Investigating Actor's Sexual Orientation as Motive in His Killing

Police investigating the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss have not ruled out his sexual orientation playing a role in his killing, despite an earlier statement suggesting otherwise. During a dispute Sunday night near his San Antonio, Texas home, Joss was shot and killed; a neighbor, identified by investigators as Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, was taken into custody and charged with murder. More from Rolling Stone 'King of the Hill' Creators Pay Tribute to Jonathan Joss Jonathan Joss, 'King of the Hill' Voice Actor, Fatally Shot at 59 Johnny Hardwick, Voice of Conspiracy Nut Dale Gribble on 'King of the Hill,' Dead at 64 Following Joss' death, the King of the Hill voice actor's husband, Tristan Kern de Gonzales, said on social media that they were approached by the neighbor who began yelling homophobic slurs and fired his gun. 'Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone,' said de Gonzales. 'We were standing side by side. When the man fired, Jonathan pushed me out of the way. He saved my life.' The day after Joss' killing, the San Antonio police wrote on social media that 'despite online claims of this being a hate crime, currently the investigation has found no evidence to indicate that the Mr. Joss's murder was related to his sexual orientation.' However, during a press conference Thursday, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said that statement was 'premature.' 'I will own that and simply say again that we simply shouldn't have done that. It was way too early in the process for any statement of that nature to be issued,' McManus said, adding that authorities are investigating the actor's sexual orientation as a possible motive. 'The loss of Jonathan Joss was tragic, most heavily felt by the LGBTQ+ community,' McManus said (via the Associated Press). 'We gather the facts, and we give those facts to the district attorney's office. And then that hate crime designation is determined at sentencing.' Joss' King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation co-stars and creators paid tribute to the actor following news of his death. King of the Hill's co-creators, Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, and revival showrunner Saladin Patterson shared a post on Instagram alongside images of Joss and his character, John Redcorn. 'Jonathan brought King of the Hill's 'John Redcorn' to life for over a dozen seasons, including in the upcoming revival,' they wrote. 'His voice will be missed at King of the Hill, and we extend our deepest condolences to Jonathan's friends and family.' President Trump set to attend UFC 316 in New Jersey this weekend

President Trump set to attend UFC 316 in New Jersey this weekend Show Caption Hide Caption Donald Trump attends UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden President-elect Donald Trump walked into Madison Square Garden alongside UFC CEO Dana White, Elon Musk and Kid Rock for UFC 309. As his feud with tech billionaire and former MAGA darling Elon Musk exploded into public view this week, the White House says President Donald Trump is planning to attend a UFC event in New Jersey this weekend. The event, UFC 316, is slated for Saturday, June 7 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The president is scheduled to depart the White House for his golf club in New Jersey Friday afternoon, according to his official schedule, and return to the White House Sunday night. Musk has been high-profile guest for some of Trump's previous visits to the octagon, but the pair had a public falling-out this week after Musk's departure from the Trump administration. 'Siri, play Bad Blood': Internet reacts to Elon Musk and Trump 'breakup' The Trump-Musk fight took off this week when Musk called for Republicans to kill the House-passed tax bill that is a signature part of the second-term president's legislative agenda, calling it a 'disgusting abomination.' Two days later, Trump told reporters at the Oval Office on June 5 that he was 'very disappointed' with Musk and suggested their 'great relationship' was over. In response, Musk took to social media shortly afterward to blast the president, saying Trump wouldn't have won a second term and Republicans would have fared worse in elections in both chambers of the U.S. Congress were it not for his efforts on the 2024 campaign trail, where he poured a quarter of a million dollars into Trump's campaign. The tussle escalated in a back-and-forth between the two men, with Trump suggested going after Musk's companies and their federal contracts, and Musk alleging that Trump's name was in the Justice Department's files related to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The pair's most recent fight appearance was in April, when Trump and Musk sat ringside at UFC 314 in Miami. The president has long attended UFC events, as CEO Dana White was a prominent supporter of Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign. When is UFC 316? UFC 316, which is headlined by Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili, is set to take place at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The main card is available for pay-per-view on ESPN.
