The Mumbai Indians family has done it again as MI New York won their second Major League Cricket (MLC) title by beating Washington Freedom in a close final by just 5 runs at the Grand Prairie Stadium.
Quinton de Kock was the star of the night as he smashed a brilliant 77 runs from 46 balls, including six fours and four sixes, to help MI New York post a solid 180/7 in their 20 overs. He was well supported by Monank Patel (28) and captain Nicholas Pooran (21) as the team built two important partnerships.

In reply, Washington Freedom fought hard with a superb 70 off 41 balls from New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and a strong unbeaten 48 from Glenn Phillips, but they could only manage 175/5. MI's bowlers kept things tight in the end, making sure the trophy stayed in the MI camp.
This win marks Mumbai Indians' 13th major trophy across the globe, and it's their third title in 2025 alone. Earlier this year, MI Cape Town won the SA20 and the Mumbai Indians Women lifted the WPL 2025 trophy.

Lucknow Super Giants Set To Make This Bold Move After Worst IPL Season: Report
Lucknow Super Giants are reportedly set to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Notably, the former India pacer had joined the franchise in August 2024. He had filled in for Gautam Gambhir, who had left the Sanjiv Goenka side to mentor Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024 and took up the role of India head coach later that year. Zaheer was signed for a one-year contract and as per a report his contract would not be extended. After Morne Morkel left LSG to become India's bowling, Zaheer also replaced him in the same role for the IPL franchise. Under Zaheer's mentorship, LSG finished at the 7th spot in IPL 2025, with just 12 points to their credit. This turned out to be the worst season for the side, who had also finished at the same position in IPL 2024, but with 14 points. In 2022 and 2023, LSG had made it to the playoffs. Zaheer and LSG are set to part ways, claimed a Times of India report. It added that the new appointment will be given a global role and its work would be to also monitor RPSG Group's other franchises - Durban's Super Giants in the SA20 and Manchester Originals in The Hundred. Zaheer has already served for Mumbai Indians from 2018 to 2022. He was first appointed as the Director of Cricket for MI before being given the role of head of global development. Last month, former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, who recently ended his ties with KKR, was roped in by LSG in the same capacity. Arun for the past few years was associated with KKR but after a poor eighth place finish in 2025, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise is in the process of rejigging its coaching staff with Abhishek Nayar and Dwayne Bravo all set to call the shots. Hence Chandrakant Pandit and Arun, the two veterans parted ways. Similarly, after a seventh place finish in the last edition, LSG are also making changes to their support staff. The LSG bowling wasn't top notch during last season and much of it could be attributed to the absence of India's fastest bowler Mayank Yadav from all but two games. Arun, one of the finest bowling coaches the national team has ever had, is respected for his strategic acumen as well as grooming talented pacers.

'Sanju Samson to CSK is bleak. RR don't have...': R Ashwin shatters illusions despite Chennai's desperate US move
Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin shattered the illusion around the much-speculated blockbuster move of Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings, saying that the chances are bleak and that the Rajasthan Royals are unlikely to get a player as valuable as the India wicketkeeper-batter in return. R Ashwin explained why Sanju Samson-CSK move is unlikely to happen(PTI) Samson reportedly told the Royals that he wants to leave the franchise and asked them to release or trade him. Rajasthan then actively reached out to all the franchises for a possible trade deal. Among all the franchises, Samson has been hotly linked to Chennai after the five-time champions emerged as the first to express interest. According to an Indian Express report, the India star even had a meeting with " the CSK management and head coach Stephen Fleming during the Major League Cricket season in US." The report added that Chennai were keen on signing Samson "through a trade deal via cash." But the deal instantly hit a roadblock. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said a Samson-to-CSK trade would leave RR struggling to get equal value in return. Using Ravi Bishnoi as an example, he explained that if LSG gave up the spinner for Samson, they'd also have to manage the purse to retain Samson — making such deals unrealistic. 'Why the CSK-RR trade won't work is because if Sanju is traded to CSK, and RR then try to trade with other teams, they're unlikely to get valuable players in return. For example, if RR want a spinner like Ravi Bishnoi and approach LSG, the problem is that if LSG acquire Sanju and give away Bishnoi, they also have to manage the remaining purse required to retain Sanju — which becomes LSG's responsibility,' Ashwin said. Ashwin further said that Chennai rarely trade and hence won't part with stars like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube, making a Samson move unlikely, leaving RR with little to gain from such a swap. 'CSK generally don't believe in trading. They aren't going to trade players like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. So, in all likelihood, Sanju coming to CSK is bleak, for the reasons I've explained. RR don't have much to gain from this kind of trade,' he added. According to a report in Cricbuzz on Wednesday, Rajasthan Royals owner Manoj Badale contacted Chennai over the Samson trade deal, seeking Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, or Shivam Dube. However, the five-time champions are unwilling to part with any of them, leaving the high-profile move from Jaipur to Chennai at a stalemate.

R Ashwin explains why Sanju Samson's CSK trade will not work out this time, ‘Chennai don't believe in…'
The Sanju Samson IPL 2025 transfer/trade continues to spur interest with latest repots intending that the Rajasthan Royals have indeed begun negotiations with multiple franchises after the Kerala batter had express his intention to leave the side. The Rajasthan skipper has since been closely associated with a move to Chennai Super Kings, with the five-time champions expressing interest in a transfer. The Indian Express had previously reported that after the conclusion of the IPL, Samson even met with the CSK management and head coach Stephen Fleming during the Major League Cricket season in US. Chennai were open to the idea of bringing the 30-year-old to Chepauk through a trade deal via cash. But it has hit a roadblock, with Rajasthan preferring an exchange of two players from Chennai. The five-time champions as a CSK policy have traded players with other franchises. When they bought Robin Uthappa ahead of the 2021 season from Rajasthan it was an all-cash deal. Samson's former RR teammate R Ashwin, who is also understood to have expressed his interest to leave the CSK franchise, explained that Samson's move to Chepauk may not come to fruition ahead of the 2026 IPL season. 'Why the CSK-RR trade won't work is because if Sanju is traded to CSK, and RR then try to trade with other teams, they're unlikely to get valuable players in return. For example, if RR want a spinner like Ravi Bishnoi and approach LSG, the problem is that if LSG acquire Sanju and give away Bishnoi, they also have to manage the remaining purse required to retain Sanju — which becomes LSG's responsibility,' Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. Ashwin further explained that Chennai do not generally incline towards trading players and will not certainly give away players worth Rs 18 crore to match a Samson deal. 'CSK generally don't believe in trading. They aren't going to trade players like Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube. So, in all likelihood, Sanju coming to CSK is bleak, for the reasons I've explained. RR don't have much to gain from this kind of trade,' said Ashwin on his Youtube Channel.
