During her visit to Phases 3B2, 7, and 9, the DC flagged several civic lapses, including broken central verge grills, encroachments on side berms, neglected green belts, and gaps in plantation. She directed concerned departments to restore and maintain these areas promptly. She took serious note of the persistent waterlogging on the road stretch from Gurdwara Saacha Dhan Sahib (Phase 3B1) to Chawla Lights and instructed officials to expedite the laying of a storm sewer line to resolve the issue. In Phases 8 to 11, she emphasized the need for clearly visible road signage and fully functional streetlights, particularly between Gurdwara Amb Sahib and the PSEB office. She was also apprised of ongoing sewer line work in Phase 9. DC Mittal said the ongoing field inspections are aimed at ensuring pothole repairs, improved road markings, safe and clean footpaths, effective waste disposal, and overall civic upkeep under the Punjab Road Cleanliness Mission. Highrise buildings to undergo mandatory structural safety audits
1 2 Prayagraj: The high-rise buildings of city are set to become safer under a new directive that makes structural safety audits mandatory. According to the new guidelines, all high-rise buildings (those taller than 15 metres) will now require a safety audit 10 years after construction, and then once every five years thereafter. This comes after concerns about safety lapses and past fire incidents in several multi-storeyed buildings across the city. Over the last two decades, many tall buildings have come up in Prayagraj. However, most of these never underwent any formal safety checks after completion. Earlier, buildings only required a one-time No Objection Certificate (NOC) from a structural engineer at the time of construction. After that, the safety of many buildings was left unchecked, putting residents at risk. Several buildings in the city, despite having structural flaws, still received clearance. Fire safety measures in many of these buildings became non-functional, mere showpieces. Even govt buildings like the Advocate General's Office near the High Court and the Indira Bhawan (housing the development authority itself) witnessed major fire outbreaks leading to investigations in each incident. 25 months & counting, revamp of 1.4km Southern Peripheral Road link not complete in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Residents and commuters are bearing the brunt of poor road conditions following delay in a key Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) link project. GMDA — which initially set a deadline of 12 months when the road work commenced in June 2023 — is now hoping to wrap up the work by Aug. More than two years after work began to upgrade the 1.4km stretch between AIT Chowk and SPR, the project is yet to be completed. Officials have attributed the delay to drainage work undertaken by another division of the metropolitan authority. The road upgradation project, pegged at Rs 9.8 crore, includes overlaying the main carriageway, constructing service roads on both sides, laying surface drains and building footpaths and cycle tracks. If one division knew drain was pending, why was road work initiated without resolving that first? There should be accountability. " According to GMDA officials, drainage, footpaths, a cycle track and about 1km of service road on the right side of the carriageway have been completed. On the other side, 700 metres of the service road have been laid with Wet Mix Macadam, while work on the footpath and cycle track is nearing completion."We have set a target of Aug and efforts are being made to complete it at the earliest. But bituminous work is weather-sensitive and progress depends on conducive conditions," the official added.
