NWSL's Gotham FC Signs Record Back-of-Jersey Deal With Dove
The NWSL kicks off its 13th season next month, and one of its original franchises will have a back-of-jersey sponsor for the first time in years. NJ/NY Gotham FC signed a multi-year deal with Dove to put the Unilever brand on its jerseys.
Gotham would not reveal financial details but confirmed that it is the highest back-of-jersey sponsorship deal in the history of the NWSL. The previous record was more than $500,000 for last year's partnership between expansion club Bay FC and private equity giant Sixth Street, which also owns the team.

'We want to create partnerships that add value to our fans, the community we serve, our brand and the partner brand,' Ryan Dillon, Gotham's chief business officer, said in a video interview. 'We want to work with brands that are invested in our growth, and we want to work with brands that are valuable. Dove checked all of those boxes.'
Community initiatives are part of many sponsorship agreements, but the fit between Gotham and Dove is like a glove. Last year, Gotham launched its 'Keep Her in the Game' initiative that addresses why girls drop out of sports at twice the rate of boys by age 14. The program equips coaches with specialized training and reached more than 500 youth athletes in year one, with the goal to double that in 2025.
'We're a sports team, and we exist to win, but we do feel we have a bigger purpose,' Dillon said.
Dove started its 'Body Confident Sport' program in 2023. It offers 11 to 17-year-old girls coaching tools to build confidence in their bodies and encourage them to stay in sports. The brand's data shows that 45% of girls drop out of sports due to low body confidence by age 14. On Sunday, Dove ran a 30-second Super Bowl ad about boosting body confidence in young female athletes.
In addition to the jersey placement, Dove will be the presenting sponsor of Gotham's Keep Her in the Game program.
Last year was a major step forward for the business of Gotham, fresh off its first NWSL Championship in 2023. The club added a new front-of-jersey sponsor in CarMax and per-game attendance jumped 36%; revenue rose roughly 60% overall. In addition, Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, who joined the ownership group in late 2023, took over as the team's governor. She brings a growth mindset in alignment with other new NWSL investors in recent years.
In September, Sportico pegged the average NWSL team value at $104 million, up 57% from the prior year on the heels of Angel City FC and the San Diego Wave selling stakes at valuations of $250 million and $120 million. Last month, Denver was officially announced as the NWSL's 16th club for an expansion fee of $110 million, more than double the $53 million Bay FC and BOS Nation FC paid in 2023.
Gotham starts its 2025 season on March 15.

NY Giants' Russell Wilson Drops Strong Malik Nabers Praise
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. After wrapping up their spring practice sessions, the New York Giants will soon be back in action for the training camp portion of the 2025 NFL offseason. When the Giants take the practice field once again, they hope to see the QB-WR combination of Russell Wilson and Malik Nabers in action. Although they haven't had a chance to work on their on-field connection just yet, Wilson is confident that his No. 1 target is going to show out as the top wideout in the league next season. At FanaticsFest this week, Wilson made a major claim about his sophomore wideout. "It's funny, my locker is actually the same locker that I had when we won the Super Bowl. The second thing is, my locker is right next to this dude, who is the best receiver in the league," Wilson said as he pointed to Nabers. It's no surprise Wilson considers his guy the best in the game. While some might argue that sentiment, Wilson might not be far off, considering the campaign Nabers just put together. Malik Nabers #1 of the New York Giants warms up prior to the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium on October 28, 2024 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Aller/Getty Images During his rookie season, Nabers ended up finishing the year within the top 10 for receiving yards. He caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards. As a rookie, the Giants wideout saw the end zone seven times. Nabers' 2024 season was highly impressive for two key reasons. The first was that he was a rookie. While plenty of rookies have come in and made day one impacts, producing like a top receiver without any prior NFL experience should always be viewed as an impressive feat. The second key reason was the fact that the Giants had no stability at the quarterback position. When the Giants selected Nabers out of LSU with the sixth-overall pick last year, they did it with the belief that Nabers and Daniel Jones could grow into a top QB-WR duo. Unfortunately, the Giants' former first-round passer did not pan out. Jones was benched before getting cut. For the remainder of the 2024 NFL season, the Giants couldn't get consistency under center, but that didn't stop Nabers from producing. The presence of Russell Wilson is expected to work wonders for Nabers. While Wilson is fighting a narrative that suggests his best days are long behind him, the one-time Super Bowl Champion could gain a big boost from playing with the talented 21-year-old Nabers next season. With Nabers currently nursing a toe injury, Wilson and Nabers haven't had a chance to go to work in OTAs or minicamp. If all goes right for Nabers over the next month, he should be back for training camp, putting together his first set of reps with the veteran quarterback.

Bills' Michael Hoecht: Super Bowl title would mean 'everything' to him
Michael Hoecht on what bringing a Super Bowl would mean to Buffalo & #BillsMafia 👀 @WKBW In little surprise, Michael Hoecht gets it. The pass rusher signed with the Buffalo Bills during free agency this offseason. He does have to face a suspension early on next season, but Hoecht is going to be chomping at the bit to get his Bills career going. That's because Hoecht completely understands what the Bills and a potential Super Bowl means to Buffalo. Despite already having won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, it sounds like one with the Bills would be even bigger for Hoecht. That's because Hoecht is a close local to western New York as an Oakville, Ontario, native. Hoecht said during minicamp that bringing a title to Buffalo would be a massive achievement and credited Bills Mafia as his reason why a Super Bowl win would mean so much. Hoecht's explanation can be found in the clip below:
