Bomb disposal team called to Llanelli after device found

Specialist officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit attended the scene on June 23, following a warrant executed under The Explosive Substances Act.
Police enforced a 100-metre safety cordon, closing several roads including Trinity Terrace, Trinity Road, Copperworks Road, New Dock Road, and Marged Street, as a precaution while the device was investigated.
A 57-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences under The Explosive Substances Act and remains in police custody.
The device found at the address was made safe, and police have confirmed there is no wider threat to the public.
Residents living within the cordon were asked to leave their homes while the search was carried out.

"EOD (explosive ordinance disposal) is on their way to the scene.
"Please follow the direction of officers at the scene for your safety."
At 9.50pm, police confirmed that the EOD officers had concluded their searches and the device had been made safe.
Residents who had been asked to leave their properties were told they could return home, and all roads were reopened.
Chief Inspector Dominic Jones said: "I would like to thank the whole community for their support and patience while we dealt with this incident.

Sea Trust founder's warning as Risso's dolphins 'harassed'

Sea Trust founder Cliff Benson says he has reported one incident to Dyfed-Powys Police after a family in a RHIB was seen by volunteers repeatedly chasing a pod of Risso's dolphins near Strumble Head. 'They repeatedly chased one in particular for several minutes as it tried to get away from them,' said Cliff. (Image: Sea Trust) He added that drone footage of the incident 'strongly suggested' that the targeted dolphin was a pregnant female about to give birth. 'This would explain why she did not just disappear,' said Cliff. 'As they can stay down for up to twenty minutes and travel underwater at 20 miles per hour.' Risso's dolphins are relatively rare to see off the Pembrokeshire coast as they prefer deep offshore waters. They can grow up to 3.9 metres long and are distinguishable by their broad head without a beak. They are a European protected species (EPS). (Image: Sea Trust) When Cliff confronted the driver of the boat as he returned to the slip in Goodwick the man denied it, despite Sea Trust volunteers having video and photographic evidence. This has now been handed over to Dyfed-Powys Police. Reports have come in this week again, this time of dolphins being chased by people on aqua bikes in Ramsey Sound. 'I understand people getting excited when they see a dolphin but there is a difference between watching them from a reasonable distance and irresponsibly chasing them,' said Cliff. 'In the UK, harassing dolphins is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. This act protects all cetaceans, including dolphins, from intentional or reckless disturbance, harassment, injury, or killing. Violations can result in fines up to £5,000.' Cliff added that the law specifically prohibits deliberately or recklessly disturbing or harassing dolphins: This includes actions that cause distress, such as chasing them with boats or approaching them closely. Cliff recommends that boat owners give dolphins a wide berth and pass them slowly. "If the dolphins approach you or follow your boat out in the open sea that's fine,' he said. 'That's their choice but under no circumstances should you follow them." Dyfed-Powys Police has been approached for comment.

Shop worker fleeced Spar out of £34,000 with stolen scratch cards

Shop worker fleeced Spar out of £34,000 with stolen scratch cards The court heard how when staff put the accusations to Odin Parry in June last year he denied involvement, but when staff then showed him the footage they'd collected he responded: 'Well I can't deny it now can I?' The Spar at Terrace Road, Aberystywth, where Odin Parry stole scratch cards from the store where he worked over a long period of time - costing the store thousands of pounds (Image: Google Maps) A shop worker fleeced a Spar of more than £30,000 through stolen scratch cards. Odin Parry, who had worked at the Spar store on Terrace Road in Aberystwyth since 2015, was caught by fellow staff members after he left multiple scratched scratch cards beside the till during his shift. ‌ Prior to that staff had noticed Parry, 39, who had a senior role at the store, had been 'protective' of the till area and would often give more junior staff members at the shop jobs to do far away from the till. On one occasion a staff member reported they'd seen Parry scratching the cards in his car. ‌ At a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court on Friday Caitlin Brazel, prosecuting, told the court how after the cards were discovered beside the till managers at the Spar decided to peruse CCTV footage which had shown Parry, from Aberystwyth, had been taking the cards without paying for them from November 2023 to June 2024. Don't miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here ‌ In the painstaking internal investigation staff realised the defendant had been scratching the cards he hadn't paid for, checking his winnings and taking money out of the till. He would then manipulate the books at the end of each shift to ensure the accounts were balanced to cover his tracks. The court heard how when staff put the accusations to Parry in June last year he denied involvement, but when staff then showed him the footage they'd collected he responded: 'Well I can't deny it now can I?' When he was arrested by Dyfed-Powys Police officers and was charged with one count of theft and one count of fraud on June 27 last year he said he had 'been stupid', adding: 'I'm going through a lot of s*** at the moment.' He claimed he had always intended to repay the money he had stolen when able. ‌ Police estimated the money stolen from the Spar by Parry is in the tens of thousands - £10,000 in physical scratch cards and £33,700 in winnings from the till. A single store can pay out on scratch cards up to the value of £200. Ian Ibrahim, for Parry, said his client, of Green Gardens in Aberystwyth, had no previous convictions and that it could be argued the offending, while drawn out, was not sophisticated given the fact Parry left some of the stolen scratched scratch cards in full view beside the till which ultimately led to him being caught. Mr Ibrahim said Parry had entered guilty pleas to theft and fraud at the earliest opportunity and 'effectively admitted' what he had done on his arrest. ‌ 'He put his hands up,' Mr Ibrahim added. 'He is not criminally minded. This case is a year old now and there has been no further offending since.' The court heard Parry suffers with anxiety and depression and remains in 'thousands of pounds of debt'. 'There is no evidence of luxury spending at all,' Mr Ibrahim told Judge Recorder Simon Stephenson. 'He is deeply ashamed.' ‌ Mr Ibrahim told the court the defendant, a former forklift truck driver of 14 years, believes he is about to start a delivery driving job for Aberystwyth business Ultracomida. Sentencing Parry in the dock Judge Recorder Stephenson said: 'Between November 2023 and June 2024 you stole National Lottery scratch cards to the value of £10,000 and claimed winnings of £33,700.' Parry was sentenced to 16 months suspended for a year. He must complete 150 hours of unpaid work. Article continues below
