Wiebes sprints to stage four win at Tour de France Femmes
POITIERS, France - Lorena Wiebes stormed to her second consecutive stage victory at the Tour de France Femmes on Tuesday, winning the fourth leg with a dominant sprint finish.
The Dutch rider from Team SD Worx launched her move around 250 metres from the line and proved untouchable, sealing another emphatic stage victory. Fellow Dutch rider Marianne Vos took second place, with Ireland's Lara Gillespie finishing third.
The largely flat 130.7-km stage from Saumur to Poitiers saw the peloton remain tightly packed until the closing stretch before a showdown amongst the sprinters.
Wiebes timed her effort perfectly, leaving her rivals unable to respond before it was too late.
She also triumphed in a chaotic sprint on Monday and now sits second overall, trailing Vos, who retains the yellow jersey. REUTERS

The 26-year-old UAE Team Emirates XRG rider sealed his Tour de France title on Sunday after three weeks of dominance, but said fatigue had crept in during the final days. His previous Tour de France titles came in 2020, 2021 and 2024. Pogacar will return to action at the one-day races in Quebec and Montreal in September before shifting focus to the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda, where he is the defending champion. "After such a demanding Tour, we decided it was best to take a break," Pogacar said in a statement late on Tuesday. "The Vuelta is of course a race I would dearly love to return to. I have fantastic memories there from 2019, but now the body is telling me to rest. "I'm excited to go back to Canada; the races are tough but beautiful, and they fit my style well. I'll be aiming to be back racing well again for that part of the season and for the World Championships especially." Pogacar is yet to win the Vuelta a Espana, having captured three stage wins and securing the young rider classification in his only appearance in 2019. The Vuelta runs from August 23 to September 14. After many weeks of drawn-out talks, the 25-year-old finally joined the Red Devils last week for £65 million plus a potential £6 million in add-ons. The Cameroon winger, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists for Brentford in the English Premier League last season, has signed a five-year deal with United, becoming their third signing of the summer transfer window. Mbeumo told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast that Fernandes – who scored 19 goals and provided 19 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions for United last season – was the player he was most looking forward to playing with. 'Everyone sees in the past years, he can shoot, he can cross, he can do crazy ball,' he said. 'Yeah, for a striker, you just enjoy that.' 'You just need to make the run and he's going to play you in the right space every time. 'But of course, you can have a little discussion to make him know how I prefer the balls and how I'm feeling the best to have the ball. 'But at a certain point, there is only one way, even if it's not the one you like, you have to do the run and he's going to put the ball in a good position.' Mbeumo's arrival follows the signings of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Paraguay left-back Diego Leon, from Cerro Porteno. United boss Ruben Amorim also heaped praise on Fernandes after the midfielder scored twice in a 2-1 pre-season win over fellow Premier League club West Ham United in New Jersey last weekend. The 23-year-old all-rounder, who has yet to play a one-day international, scored 125 runs and took two wickets as Australia swept West Indies in all five T20s in the Caribbean this month. Mitch Marsh captains both T20 and ODI squads in the absence of regular 50-overs skipper Pat Cummins, who will sit out the series with fellow quick Mitch Starc.
