According to the Encyclopedia of American Folklore, the exact origins of April Fools' Day are uncertain – it most likely comes from multiple sources.
April Fools' Day is most often attributed to France's switch from the Julian calendar, to the Gregorian calendar in the 1500s, according to The Library of Congress and the History Channel.
'In the Julian Calendar, as in the Hindu calendar, the new year began with the spring equinox around April 1,' the History Channel says.
'People who were slow to get the news or failed to recognize that the start of the new year had moved to January 1 and continued to celebrate it during the last week of March through April 1 became the butt of jokes and hoaxes and were called 'April fools.''
Another potential origin is a New Year's tradition from the Middle Ages called the 'Feast of Fools,' which predates France's switch to the Gregorian Calendar.
In medieval churches, hierarchy was inverted every New Year's Day and lower members of the clergy would swap duties with the higher-ranking priests and bishops. Outside of the church doors, chaotic celebrations would carry on. You might recognize this idea from Disney's 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' movie.
'Officially banned in the 15th century, the Feast of Fools had its origins 300 years before, in the 1100s, and continued as a tradition well into the 16th century,' Atlas Obscura says.
'It was memorialized in church documents condemning its excesses and in paintings depicting streets full of merry chaos. It appears in Victor Hugo's famous 19th century novel, 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame,' when Quasimodo is swept up in the festivities and crowned King of Fools.'
Another theory says that April Fools' Day could have gotten its start in ancient Rome, with Hilaria, which was a day of joy marking the end of an annual festival that honored the goddess Cybele.
These aren't the only April Fools' Day origin stories and legends, but they're among the most popular and well-known.

Something Beautiful begins with a poetic 'Prelude' where Miley shares her thoughts about letting go of the past and moving on to the future, 'aching to be seen, aching to be real.' 'Walk of Fame' is one of the peaks, her electro pep talk on self-esteem ('Every time I walk, it's a walk of fame') with Howard making herself right at home in the disco glitz. It's essentially a tribute to Seventies producer Giorgio Moroder, just as 'Easy Lover' and 'Golden Burning Sun' go for the laid-back vibe of Fleetwood Mac. 'End of the World' goes for Abba-tooled Euro-pop, vowing to 'throw a party like McCartney with some help from our friends.' The title track begins as a soft neo-soul ballad until it flips into distorted electro-noise. 'More to Lose' is a massive Eighties-style power ballad that addresses the end of a relationship, where she sees her once-cherished ex as 'a movie star in a worn-out coat.' But the sentimental favorite has to be 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved,' a fantastic disco twirl with Campbell. It's a welcome musical comeback for the Nineties fashion icon, 30 years after her unjustly forgotten one-off trip-hop oddity Baby Woman, not to mention her famous Vanilla Ice duet 'Cool As Ice (Everybody Get Loose).' Miley sings an invitation to romance, purring, 'Aren't I pretty enough for more than fun in the dark?' Campbell plays the spoken-word hype woman, telling us all how awesome Miley is: 'She's got that kind of grace/Did Botticelli paint her face?/She's got the perfect scent/She speaks the perfect French.' It ends with a walk-off where both women chant 'Pose, pose, pose!' It's also got the album's gnarliest Eighties sax solo — and there's a load of those, because Miley is obviously in a very sax-solo place right now. 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved' is the loosest, most playful song on the album, but also the one that best illustrates the redemptive spirit she's going for on Something Beautiful. All over the album, Miley sings about keeping her chin up and looking on the positive side, even in times of trouble, which makes this album basically the opposite of The Wall, which was all about having a bad time at a rock show. But Something Beautiful is another bold swerve in one of pop's most delightfully unpredictable careers. Miley Cyrus Says Disney Stopped Her From Singing ‘Hannah Montana' Songs, ‘Not Like I Wanted To'
Disney prevented Miley Cyrus from performing songs from Hannah Montana after the show ended in 2011. But she said in a new interview with The Ringer podcast, 'It's not like I wanted to.' She explained: 'Performing 'The Best of Both Worlds' between 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball' wouldn't have really made sense,' she said. The TV series, which propelled Cyrus to stardom as a pop star who hid her true identity from fans so she could live a normal life, ran from 2006 to 2011. During that time, five Hannah Montana soundtrack albums came out, as well as one live record and two remix albums. She also released three solo albums on Disney's Hollywood label* before switching to RCA and releasing Bangerz, home to 'We Can't Stop' and 'Wrecking Ball,' in 2013. Disney Brings ‘Haunted Mansion' to Early Halloween Decor Shopping—But at What Cost?
It's only the start of June, and already Halloween fanatics have to fight for their lives to acquire the newest spooky season decor. Lowe's just revealed this year's Disney Haunted Mansion collection and choices were definitely made in sculpting the iconic figures from the Disney Parks ride. Just give a little gander at the groundskeeper—he's even more terrifying than the Hitchhiking Ghosts! The eyes, so fleshy and protruding like they've seen a thing or two on a Doombuggy passing by. He looks absolutely nightmarish, so there's no doubt he will work for the best lawn jump scares. He'll set you back $249. At least with the Knight, the sculpt fares better, right? It's really more befitting to have the dead center stare come from the severed head, methinks. This hallway icon is available for $349 and is musical, featuring 'Grim Grinning Ghosts' along with its motion programming.
