‘I am ok': Katy Perry breaks silence on space bad-venture
A crestfallen Katy Perry has reassured fans she's doing 'ok' following the torrent of online abuse she's copped in the wake of Blue Origin's all-female space flight which launched on April 14.
The E.T. singer became an instant meme after footage was released of her kissing the ground upon her return to Earth following the 11-minute voyage.
Also on board were TV personality Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, journalist Lauren Sanchez, former NASA scientist Aisha Bowe, and research scientist Amanda Nguyen — although none received the level of vitriol directed at Perry.

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos, and completed its 31st total mission to space, including its 11th human space flight for the New Shepard program.
During the journey, Perry sang Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World, which was reportedly a welcome performance among her co-passengers.
However, facing a pile-on from the Earth-based online community — and even other celebrities — the 40-year-old bared her soul to loyal followers in a long-winded response on an Instagram fan page a couple of weeks after the journey.
'I'm so grateful for you guys. We're in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond,' she told fans.
'I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year! Perry has also sparked outrage among some for continuing to work with controversial record producer Dr. Luke, who was accused of drugging and sexually abusing singer Kesha in 2014.
The experienced producer was behind several of Perry's mega tracks including I Kissed A Girl and California Gurls.
'My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, 'no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don't already believe about yourself' and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it's an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it,' Perry's comment continued.
'When the 'online' world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed. Amid a sea of scathing reviews of her 2024 album release 143, Perry reminded fans that she appreciates the loyalty and love they show at concerts and continues to front-up for them.
'What's real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth,' she said.
'I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that cos' l'm not perfect, and I actually have omitted that word from my vocabulary,
'l'm on a human journey playing the game of life with an audience of many and sometimes I fall but... I get back up and go on and continue to play the game and somehow through my battered and bruised adventure I keep looking to the light and in that light a new level UNLOCKS (sic)'.
While the space voyage was billed as one small step for womankind and the science field at large, it received widespread condemnation from many who felt it was one giant capitalist stunt for the rich.
Several celebrities aimed their dismay at Perry for taking part in the flight, including Olivia Munn, who labelled it 'gluttonous', and Olivia Wilde, who joked, 'billion dollars bought some good memes I guess'.
However, British singer Lily Allen was one to publicly retract her negative remarks.

But earlier this week, the Alfie singer apologised to her colleague after some introspection.
'There was actually no need for me to bring her name into it, and it was my own internalised misogyny,' Allen said on her podcast.
'I've been thinking about it a lot, and it was just completely unnecessary to pile on with her. I mean, I disagree with what it was that they did, but she wasn't the only person that did it.'
Perry has continued her own venture of late, re-joining her The Lifetimes Tour in Mexico which will see her globe-trotting until December.
Her first tour in seven years, she is set to play 84 concerts.
