Will Alabama football make 2025 College Football Playoff? What metric shows
Alabama football has not played a snap in 2025. But, according to one metric, the Crimson Tide has the fourth-best odds of any college football team to reach the College Football Playoff. Alabama, per ESPN's College Football Power Index, has a 66.2% chance to be one of the 12 teams in the 2025 CFP, sitting behind only Texas (83.9%), Georgia (78.6%) and Ohio State (70.6%). Advertisement The Crimson Tide is also one of four teams with better than 10% odds to win a national championship along with the Longhorns, Bulldogs and Buckeyes. Of the top 12 teams listed according to CFP chances, six are in the SEC: Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. The ESPN College Football Power Index sets Alabama's projected win total at 9.6, tied for ninth-best nationally with Boise State. Alabama will open the second season of the Kalen DeBoer era at 2:30 p.m. CT Aug. 30 on the road against Florida State. ACC, Florida State, Clemson file to dismiss cases against each other
The ACC's legal infighting is officially over after Florida State, Clemson and the ACC filed to dismiss the cases against each other Tuesday. The move formally, finally, ends more than 17 months of litigation that played out in Florida (where the Seminoles sued the ACC), South Carolina (where the Tigers sued the conference) and North Carolina (where the Charlotte-based league separately sued both schools). Both schools and the league approved the settlement's terms in March, and Florida State's counsel estimated the agreements would be finalized in 30 days. The whole process took almost three months, approaching a June 9 deadline in one of the Florida courts. Advertisement The initial settlement terms clarified issues if/when Florida State, Clemson or other ACC members moved to leave the conference. Schools, not the league, would get to keep their TV rights, which are worth hundreds of millions of dollars between now and 2036 (when the ACC's ESPN contract expires). The exit fee, according to a presentation to Clemson trustees in March, would drop annually from $165 million in the 2026 fiscal year to about $75 million in 2030-31. That's a critical window as TV contracts with the SEC, Big Ten and College Football Playoff will expire — potentially setting the stage for another massive round of conference realignment. The agreement reported in March also created a new way for the ACC to share revenue with its members. About 60% of conference payouts would be divided based on TV viewership in football and men's basketball. That amounts to more than $15 million in extra revenue for the top earners — a significant bonus as ACC paydays lag behind those in the SEC and Big Ten. Florida State officials previously said that the gap would exceed $30 million in the coming years unless things changed.

MLB sees double-digit viewership increases in US and Japan
NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball's viewer numbers in the United States and Japan during the first two months of the season have seen double-digit increases, MLB and Nielsen reported Tuesday. ESPN's coverage is up 22%, averaging 1.74 million viewers. It is the most-watched season on ESPN through the first two months since 2017. This might be the last year ESPN is carrying baseball after it opted out of its rights deal in February. The MLB Tuesday package on TBS has a 16% increase. Fox Sports is up 10%, averaging 1.84 million viewers per game. Last Saturday night's 18-2 rout by the Los Angeles Dodgers over the New York Yankees averaged 2.2 million on Fox. The streaming package has seen its viewers increase 27%, with more than 7.5 billion minutes watched through Monday. Games on the NHK channels in Japan are averaging 2.7 million. The average does not include the Tokyo Series games between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs which began the regular season. The ratings are on pace for MLB's most-watched regular season in Japan as the audience has increased every year since 2021. On streaming viewership has increased 27% vs 2024, which was the most-watched season in the history of the service. For games through Monday, June 2, has more than 7.5 billion minutes watched this season. ___
