Will Alabama football make 2025 College Football Playoff? What metric shows
Alabama football has not played a snap in 2025. But, according to one metric, the Crimson Tide has the fourth-best odds of any college football team to reach the College Football Playoff.
Alabama, per ESPN's College Football Power Index, has a 66.2% chance to be one of the 12 teams in the 2025 CFP, sitting behind only Texas (83.9%), Georgia (78.6%) and Ohio State (70.6%).

The Crimson Tide is also one of four teams with better than 10% odds to win a national championship along with the Longhorns, Bulldogs and Buckeyes.
Of the top 12 teams listed according to CFP chances, six are in the SEC: Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Ole Miss.
The ESPN College Football Power Index sets Alabama's projected win total at 9.6, tied for ninth-best nationally with Boise State.
Alabama will open the second season of the Kalen DeBoer era at 2:30 p.m. CT Aug. 30 on the road against Florida State.

However, don't be surprised if this ranking changes in the near future, as the Crimson Tide are among the favorites for some big names currently, and could easily start to build momentum as we enter the summer months. ESPN anchor Jay Harris announced on Good Morning America that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and will be undergoing surgery on June 10, which will sideline him from SportsCenter for about a month. Patriots receive good news on injured veteran starter
All things considered, the Patriots received good news about an injured veteran starter on Tuesday. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Jahlani Tavai suffered a calf injury in Monday's OTA practice and the injury is expected to sideline him until training camp. The Patriots turned off the music and players circled around him, kneeling on the ground. He was later taken off-site for further medical evaluation. Last year, the veteran led the Patriots in total tackles with 115. Tavai started 16-of-17 games played and also had five passes defended, two quarterback hits, a sack, and an interception.
