Yahoo16-06-2025
Police on Monday identified a 21-year-old man accused of leading officers on a chase that ended in a crash with another vehicle early Saturday in west Lubbock.
The chase began after a Lubbock police officer reportedly saw a Lincoln Town Car driving recklessly around 3:11 a.m. in the 5800 block of 19th Street and attempted to make a traffic stop, according to a statement from LPD.
The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Diego Castillo, is accused of fleeing from the scene, prompting the pursuing. The vehicle was traveling south in the 4500 block of West Loop 289 and exited at the Marsha Sharp Freeway, where it attempted to pass a pickup truck that was in front of it.
However, the car collided with the truck.
Police say Castillo attempted to flee on foot, but was arrested a short time later. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center. He faces charges of reckless driving, evading in a vehicle, evading on foot, possession of marijuana, failure to ID and failure to stop and render aid, along with an unrelated warrant. Jail records indicate Castillo was no longer in the detention center as of Monday.
The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.

Lubbock hit by cyberattack last week that knocked off websites, says Texas Attorney General

The Office of the Texas Attorney General has confirmed the City of Lubbock has been hit by a cyber attack. According to an OAG's "Catastrophe Notice," it says "Lubbock experienced a cyber attack beginning Tuesday, August 12, 2025, which resulted in the shutting down of all systems and its resources for fulfilling Public Information Requests." The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal first reported that "network issues" were plaguing the City of Lubbock's websites, knocking out most of its websites — including those of the Lubbock Police Department and Lubbock Fire Rescue around 3 p.m. on Aug. 12. However, the city sent a screenshot of a press release on social media that the livestream of the Lubbock City Council Meeting was being disrupted and would later be published on the city's YouTube page. A few hours later, the City of Lubbock confirmed that it had taken offline all of its websites due to "a potential security concern." On Wednesday, the City of Lubbock confirmed to the A-J that its IT department had restored most of the city websites and the pubic safety websites. Finally, in a filing from Lubbock Assistant Attorney Rachael Foster to the Texas OAG, the City of Lubbock confirmed that a cyberattack hit it. It is currently unknown what extent the cyberattack on the City of Lubbock has reached or if any sensitive data has been exposed. Colorado police wrangle emu on the loose in Lakewood

Aug. 19 (UPI) -- A Colorado police department said officers had a "pretty emu-sing day" when a large, flightless bird was spotted running loose in Lakewood. The Lakewood Police Department posted photos to social media showing the emu officers found "playing in the street" in the Colfax and Quail area. "We had a pretty emu-sing day here at LPD today," the post said. "Your eyes aren't tricking you. That's an emu!" Officers worked together with animal control and the Regional Transportation District police to wrangle the Australian animal and return it home. "No word on if Doug was waiting for him or not," police wrote.
