Sergio Aguero picks Premier League top four and names five Player of Year candidates

Sergio Aguero has backed Manchester City to become Premier League champions ahead of Liverpool and is eyeing one of their leading lights to pick up individual accolades
Sergio Aguero believes former club Manchester City will return to the summit of English football and claim the Premier League title as he backed Phil Foden to get back to his best and compete to be the Player of the Year.

Pep Guardiola's side endured an off year last time out and, for the first time since the Catalan's debut season, finished outside the top two. They've invested in the likes of Rayan Cherki as they look to refresh their squad with Kevin De Bruyne moving on.

Aguero believes they can now return to the top having previously won six titles in seven seasons before Liverpool dethroned them last term. The Argentine believes the Reds will be part of the top four, but stopped short of picking a specific order. He has though backed Arsenal and Chelsea to also finish in the Champions League spots.

The City icon believes Foden could prove key to City's efforts. The playmaker struggled for form last season, as did several of their key players, but the academy graduate has previously shown himself to be among the elite performers.
Two years ago it was Foden who spearheaded City's ascent to another title and Aguero insists he can get back to that level, but will face competition for individual accolades from the likes of Cole Palmer.
When quizzed on who could be up for the PFA Player of the Year award he told Stake: "I'd like Foden to win Player of the Year again. I've mentioned Phil but there's also (Alexis) Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer or Declan Rice. They are sure to stand out and have a shot at the accolade."
City have seen several of their players claim the award during Guardiola's tenure - De Bruyne and Erling Haaland also among them. Aguero is hopeful that the Norwegian can reclaim the Golden Boot he missed out on for the first time last year.
After scoring 90 times in his first two seasons and topping the goal charts both times the City frontman was outgunned by Mohamed Salah. However Aguero hopes that a strong season for Haaland in front of goals means the title will head back to Manchester.
He said: "I'd like Haaland to win awards because that means he's sure to have a scored a lot for City. Salah's name should be brought up when we talk about the Golden Boot, same with (Alexander) Isak. And players arriving to the Premier League with a massive tally like (Viktor) Gyokeres at Arsenal have a chance to shake things up."

Roy Keane sets target for Ruben Amorim and gives verdict on Man Utd transfers

Manchester United have brought in three new forwards for a combined £207.5million during the summer transfer window and Roy Keane has laid down a challenge for Ruben Amorim Roy Keane 'likes the look' of Manchester United's new signings and has told Ruben Amorim that this season should be about rebuilding. United legend Keane has run the rule over the Red Devils' three major additions; Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko. ‌ Cunha and Mbeumo both started United's first game of the Premier League season against Arsenal while Sesko, who only joined the club last week in a £74million transfer deal, was named on the bench. The Red Devils also want to sign a midfielder and potentially a goalkeeper, having already spent £207.5m. ‌ Looking ahead to the new season, Keane told Sky Sports: "I think it's about trying to rebuild the team, get some confidence, get some momentum early in the season. Last year, obviously nowhere near good enough, we know that. ‌ "The biggest issue they had all season despite chatting about the goalkeeper and the defence, they didn't score enough goals. When you're not scoring enough goals, particularly if you're Manchester United when they've invested so much money, you're constantly under pressure. "They've obviously tried to fix that this summer. The signings, looking at them in pre-season, I know it's still early but yeah, the signs are good. "They've obviously brought two players in who know the Premiership, they're robust enough to deal with the challenge of that and obviously they needed a goalscorer, so they were constantly under pressure. Looking at it, I like the look of it." Turning his attention to the visit of Arsenal, the former United captain challenged Sesko to score on his Premier League debut. "This is a big start," Keane, speaking before line-ups had been confirmed, continued. "We saw players already putting a marker down at the weekend, so for any striker, Sesko goes to a new club, if he's starting, can he get up and running? Score a goal? Get that trust and belief, not just from the supporters of the club but from his team-mates." ‌ Amorim believes that the Red Devils need to start their rebuild by making Old Trafford a fortress again. "We've got to make it an enjoyable place for our fans. That is really important," the Portuguese said. "We start with one game against Arsenal, a very good team. Everyone in this room thinks Arsenal are going to win. I know that. But we will be there on Sunday to change things."

Roy Keane gives verdict on Chelsea vs Crystal Palace controversy: 'Gone too far'

Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze controversially had a stunning free-kick ruled out against Chelsea on Sunday and Roy Keane has now shared his thoughts on the incident Roy Keane claimed Marc Guehi only had himself to blame for Eberechi Eze's disallowed goal vs Chelsea. The England star thought he had given Crystal Palace the lead at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as he fired home a stunning free-kick, but referee Darren England was sent to the VAR monitor amid the celebrations and chalked off the goal due to Guehi being too close to Chelsea's defensive wall. ‌ Speaking after making the decision, he said: 'After review, away number six is less than one metre away from the wall as the shot is taken. Therefore, it's an indirect free kick and a disallowed goal.' ‌ And having watched the controversial incident unfold, Manchester United icon Keane believes players need to become more aware with the law or risk seeing more goals ruled out. Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "Attacking teams now need to be aware of this rule. We see players in there blocking and being a nuisance all the time. Guehi's almost gone too far in being a nuisance and shoving players about. He just needed to do it a little bit." ‌ Former Chelsea star Chris Sutton believed by the letter of the law that the decision was correct - albeit that doesn't make it right. He said: "There are times when you ask in football where you ask if something is right or wrong. And that just seems mightily, mightily harsh." Steve Sidwell also shared his feelings and claimed given the rule was enforced at Stamford Bridge, it needed to be consistently seen across the Premier League. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: "How many times have we seen that in the past where there's blocking? If that is the precedent set on the opening weekend it has to stay for the season." Speaking post-game, Palace defender Chris Richards said: "Everyone in the stadium thought it was a goal but you live and die by VAR and today we died from it. It was a good free-kick and hopefully we get more of them. We try our best to not hear the outside noise and continue to work. This is a performance we can build on and now we have Europe on Thursday. "The transfer window is still open so we don't know who is staying or going. We want to build on last year's performances, win a few more titles and finish higher up the table." ‌ Both Palace and Chelsea walked away from Stamford Bridge with a point each following a goalless draw, with Eze's future in question. Tottenham are ramping up their efforts to sign him as a replacement for injured playmaker James Maddison. Palace will be back in action with or without Eze this Thursday as they take on Fredrikstad FK in the first-leg of their Europa Conference League qualifier - and boss Oliver Glasner hopes to have his star man available. He said: "Eb should have scored a goal today, he had one and it was disallowed. He will come tomorrow to the Crystal Palace training ground, Tuesday off, we take Wednesday and I expect him to be back playing for us against Fredrikstad."
