Jerry Jones 'Absolutely Not' Confident Micah Parsons Will Play Week 1 Against Eagles
Speaking to reporters, including ESPN's Todd Archer, Jones indicated he lacks confidence that Parsons will play Week 1.
'No, absolutely not. A big part of that is his decision. How would I know that?' Jones said, adding that he feels 'urgent' to get a deal done.
Parsons requested a trade last Friday as contract talks broke down. The four-time Pro Bowler is in the final year of his rookie deal, earning $21.324 million.
Since the trade request, Parsons has remained at the facility, participating in walk-throughs but sitting out drills.
When asked if Parsons and his representation need to reach out, Jones offered a cryptic response.
'Y'all are getting what's in the mind or what's in the said. This is a good time. He's subject matter. What it is is what it is. We'll work through it, or we will not work through it.'
Jones's failure to secure an extension with Parsons will prove costly. Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt recently became the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league with a three-year, $123 million extension, averaging $41 million annually. That's where negotiations must start if Parsons is to remain in Dallas.

One player to watch at each defensive position in Eagles' preseason opener vs. the Bengals
With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at one player to watch at each defensive position. The Philadelphia Eagles will face the Cincinnati Bengals in the first preseason game of the summer, where there will be plenty to watch. It's unknown if Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, running back Saquon Barkley, and any of the key starters will play. At the same time, Thursday night offers a debut opportunity for Jihaad Campbell at linebacker. For Cincinnati, head coach Zac Taylor has already confirmed that his starters will play at least a series, and could play into the second quarter. With kickoff fast approaching, we're looking at one player to watch at each defensive position. DB Maxen Hook – Toledo #37 A former teammate of star cornerback Quinyon Mitchell, Hook was a first-team All-MAC selection in 2024, his third straight season earning the honor. He was the third Toledo Rocket to make an All-MAC team in four seasons. Hook could be this year's Reed Blankenship. DB Brandon Johnson – Oregon #35 Named All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2024, Johnson played in 14 games for the Ducks, logging 45 tackles, five pass breakups, and 4.5 tackles for loss. Johnson played three seasons at Duke before transferring to Oregon. DE Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. Philadelphia drafted All-American pass rusher Antwaun Powell-Ryland in the sixth round, and the former Virginia Tech star will look to show his explosiveness off the edge. DT Gabe Hall A rugged and versatile player at Baylor, a rookie free agent out of Baylor last season (6-6, 295 pounds), was on the practice squad for the entire season. He'll need a decisive training camp, but he can rush the passer and bring athleticism to the defensive tackle position. LB Dallas Gant A rookie free agent signing of the Vikings following the 2024 NFL Draft, Gant (6-2, 224 pounds) was a college teammate of cornerback Quinyon Mitchell at Toledo. CB Tariq Castro-Fields Castro-Fields was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by the 49ers. After a few months with the team, he was waived. The Commanders then picked him up, and he played in eight games, recording four tackles. Castro-Fields was picked up on waivers by the Panthers to begin the 2024 season, and he played nine snaps on special teams. He will be looking to establish himself as a key player in the Eagles' talented secondary. S Andre Sam Sam spent the season on the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad. Sam (5-11, 191 pounds) jumped from FCS after starting his career in 2017 at McNeese State, where he was selected First Team All-Southland Conference twice. Sam transferred to Marshall for the 2022 season before spending his final season at LSU. Overall, he played 58 games in college, registering 144 tackles, ten pass defenses, and nine interceptions. Sam has spent the past two off-seasons training with C.J. Gardner-Johnson and could prepare to carve out a key role in year three.

Schottenheimer's Cowboys keep things vanilla on purpose, won't unleash until games matter
Cowboys' fans, you're going to do something you don't want to do these next few weeks and that's trust the new coaching staff. That's right. Anyone hoping for a sneak peak of what Brian Schottenheimer plans for his offense this season will have to wait patiently. Anyone hoping to get a preseason glimpse of what a Matt Eberflus defense looks like this go 'round, will also be disappointed. The Dallas Cowboys are playing things close to the vest this summer. That means no strategic gameplans, no joint practice razzle-dazzle and no hints of what might be on the way before the 2025 regular season kicks off in Philadelphia on September 4. In Schottenheimer's words, he's 'playing with a 7-iron,' meaning he's keeping things simple and protecting his playbook. As Patrik Walker reported from joint practice this week, veteran coaches like Sean McVay don't have the same element of surprise the Cowboys' coaching staff enjoys. Everyone knows what McVay brings as a play caller so there's no sense in him hiding it. Schottenheimer and Eberflus bring aura of unknown to the season, and they are none-too-eager to waste that advantage on meaningless practices and games this summer. For pessimistic Cowboys fans hoping to see evidence for optimism, this is bad news. The L.A. Rams rolled the Cowboys on Tuesday. Even without Matthew Stafford under center, they look every bit the polished machine they are in the regular season. Comparatively, the Cowboys look like a Division II non-conference opponent scheduled for homecoming. There were exceptions, but for the most part, Dallas looks outmatched in most areas. According to Schottenheimer, that's by design. For weeks fans have heard about all the bells and whistles Schottenheimer is bringing to the offense in 2025. They've heard about the play action, the motion on every play and the misdirection in play design. That's music to the ears of many but it hasn't been evident in the clips shared with fans nor with the practice shared with the Rams. It's a leap of faith, or at the very least, delayed judgement, that Schottenheimer and his new staff are requesting. They get one chance to use the element of surprise and that only works if they keep things close to the vest over the preseason. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Cincinnati Bengals and the Philadelphia Eagles will kick off their 2025 preseason at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday. Cincinnati Bengals vs Philadelphia Eagles - NFL Preseason Week 1 Cincinnati Bengals vs Philadelphia Eagles - NFL Preseason Week 1 Coley Cleary How to Watch Bengals vs Eagles Date: Thursday, August 7, 2025 Time: 7:30 PM ET Channel: WXIX FOX19 (Cincinnati), NBC10 (Philadelphia), MyNetworkTV (KHII – Honolulu, HI) Stream: Fubo (TRY FOR FREE) The wait is finally over as the NFL preseason is officially here, and these two squads will continue their preparation for their opening games of the regular season during this matchup. We likely will not see many of the stars in action, as all of Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Ja'Marr Chase will almost certainly get the night off. However, there are still plenty of storylines to follow. For Cincinnati, first-round rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart could make his Bengals' debut. They desperately need some help on the defensive side of the ball, and Stewart could provide a boost to a unit that ranked near the bottom of the league last season. Philadelphia fans are still celebrating their Super Bowl title from last year, and this is the first time they can see some of the players in action since the Eagles raised the Lombardi Trophy last February. This is a great NFL matchup that you will not want to miss; make sure to tune in and catch all the action. This is not a nationally broadcast game, but it can still be live-streamed locally on WXIX FOX19 (Cincinnati), NBC10 (Philadelphia), and MyNetworkTV (KHII – Honolulu, HI). It will be aired via tape delay later on NFL Network. Live stream Bengals vs Eagles for free with Fubo: Start your subscription now! Regional restrictions may apply.
