Argonauts put quarterback Shedeur Sanders on their negotiation list

The son of former NFL Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders, has been placed on the negotiation list of the Argos, the Canadian Football League club announced on Wednesday.

Despite being touted by some as a high first-round pick in the 2025 National Football League draft, the electric young Sanders — who threw for 147 touchdowns over a four-year NCAA career with Jackson State and Colorado and rushed for 17 more — plummeted all the way to the fifth round and wasn't even the first quarterback selected by the Cleveland Browns.

Now, numerous sources are reporting that, with training camp under way, the Browns are already looking beyond both the 23-year-old Sanders and third-round pick Dillon Gabriel as their possible QB of the future and have their eyes instead on Clemson's Cade Klubnik with the first pick in the 2026 draft. There's even talk that with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett also in the congested Cleveland QB room, Sanders won't even make the team.

The defending Grey Cup-champion Argos already have former CFL Most Outstanding Player Chad Kelly, 31, as their starting QB, though he has been recovering from an injury since the end of the 2024 season while veteran Nick Arbuckle guides the offence.

But the possibility of adding the uber-talented Sanders, whose skillset may be better suited to the CFL, would no doubt be a major shot in the arm for the Argonauts' lagging attendance figures.

Article content On their next possession, Mitchell and his teammates worked their way up the field until, with 16 seconds left on the clock, the QB connected with an unmanned Smith for the game-winning major. Article content 'I'm not gonna lie to you, I saw that pre snap,' Smith said of the play, which marked his second TD of the game. 'We had (players) bunched to the right, and they had two people out there. Someone was gonna be wide open. I'm fortunate enough for it to be me on that one.' Article content Mitchell made good on 34 of his 41 passing attempts on the night, throwing for 389 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Article content 'That man is amazing,' Smith said of the 35-year-old American. 'He's a playmaker. He's a baller. He ages like wine and is continuing to show.' Horses injured at Clinton Raceway expected to make full recovery

According to a spokesperson for the venue, during the pre-race warmup, 'Read the Proposal' collided with 'Where To Buddy Boy,' who was on the track preparing for Race 6. Both horses sustained significant cuts as a result of the collision, but have since returned home and are expected to make a full recovery. The drivers, Dan Clements and Gerald Manneke, who were involved in the incident, were reported to be stiff and sore but otherwise in good condition and neither required hospitalization. Clinton Raceway said it extends appreciation to the attending track personnel and veterinary team for their swift response and care.
