Two arrested over murder of Australian man in Bali villa
DENPASAR, Indonesia: Two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of an Australian man at a villa on the popular Indonesian resort island of Bali have been arrested after a days-long manhunt, police said Tuesday.
Authorities have been searching for two men after the shooting of Zivan Radmanovic, a 32-year-old Australian national, on Saturday.
He was killed when two people burst into his villa in the tourist area of Canggu and at least one opened fire. A second man, 34-year-old Sanar Ghanim, was seriously wounded in the attack.
One of the suspects was apprehended in the capital Jakarta while a second was to be returned from abroad, national police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo told reporters, without identifying the country or giving details about the suspects.
"Regarding the shooting of Australian citizens, I already received reports from the regional police chief (in Bali). They have been secured," Listyo said.
"One is already in Jakarta, another is on his way from abroad, (they) will enter Jakarta."
The arrests were made following cooperation between Indonesian police, immigration authorities and the Australian Federal Police, he said, adding Bali police would later release further details about the arrests.
Jakarta police and the Australian embassy in Jakarta did not immediately respond to an AFP request for comment.
Witnesses, including Radmanovic's wife, said the perpetrators who fled the scene after the attack were speaking in English with a thick Australian accent, according to a local police statement.
Gun crime on the island of Bali and wider Indonesia is rare, and the archipelago nation has strict laws for illegal gun possession.--AFP

Premier League referee David Coote was charged by the Football Association on Tuesday in relation to comments he made about former Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp in a video that went viral last year. In November, the FA said they were also investigating allegations that Coote had discussed booking a player the day before a game with a friend, which the referee denied. "No charges have been issued in relation to allegations of gambling misconduct against David Coote, which were also fully investigated," the FA added. Europe's soccer governing body also said Coote was banned from any UEFA refereeing activity until June 2026. The 42-year-old had apologised for his actions. Salvador Plasencia 'has agreed to plead guilty to four counts of distribution of ketamine, which carries a statutory maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison,' the department said in a statement. The second doctor in the case, Mark Chavez, pleaded guilty last October to conspiring to distribute ketamine in the weeks before the actor was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in 2023. Perry's lengthy struggles with substance addiction were well-documented, but his death at age 54 sent shockwaves through the global legions of Friends fans. A criminal investigation was launched soon after an autopsy discovered he had high levels of ketamine – an anaesthetic – in his system. Plasencia allegedly bought ketamine off Chavez and sold it to the American-Canadian actor at hugely inflated prices. 'I wonder how much this moron will pay,' Plasencia wrote in one text message presented by prosecutors. He went to Perry's home to administer ketamine by injection, according to a plea deal published on June 16 by the Justice Department. In total, Plasencia distributed 20 vials of ketamine over a roughly two-week period in autumn 2023, the document said. Perry had been taking ketamine as part of supervised therapy for depression. But prosecutors say that before his death, he became addicted to the substance, which also has psychedelic properties and is a popular party drug. Jasveen Sangha, the alleged 'Ketamine Queen' who supplied drugs to high-end clients and celebrities, is charged with selling Perry the dose that killed him. She has pleaded not guilty. Perry's live-in personal assistant and another man pleaded guilty last August to charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine. Comedic television series Friends , which followed the lives of six New Yorkers navigating adulthood, dating and careers, drew a massive global following and made megastars of previously unknown actors. Perry's role as the sarcastic man-child Chandler brought him fabulous wealth but hid a dark struggle with addiction to painkillers and alcohol. In 2018, he suffered a drug-related burst colon and underwent multiple surgeries. In his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers And The Big Terrible Thing , Perry described going through detox dozens of times. Motorbike-riding ‘goons' attack Kenya protesters
NAIROBI: Hundreds of men armed with whips and clubs attacked groups of protesters in Kenya on Tuesday as they demonstrated against the recent killing of a man in police custody, AFP journalists saw. Tensions have risen as the east African country approaches the first anniversary of massive Gen Z-led protests sparked by tax rises, which the government has been desperate to avoid this year. A more cautious finance bill means protests have been limited this year, but people have come back to the streets over the death of 31-year-old teacher Albert Ojwang in police custody. In central Nairobi, the epicentre of last year's demonstrations, small groups of protesters gathered peacefully, calling for an end to police brutality and the resignation of a senior officer they blame for the death earlier this month. But a swarm of men riding on motorbikes, known in Kenya as 'goons', arrived soon after, armed with whips and clubs, said AFP journalists at the scene. 'The goons attacked us. They overwhelmed us at first,' Hanifa Adan, one of the leading voices from last year's demonstrations, told AFP. 'They cornered us and beat us with whips and the police were just watching them do it.' Shop owners hastily closed their stores as AFP witnessed police officers firing tear gas into the crowds, and at least one motorbike was set ablaze. 'We are turning into a lawless country,' Ndungi Githuku, of civil rights group Kongamano La Mapinduzi, told AFP.
