Learn about own nation, Indo kids at Community Learning Centres urged

TAWAU: Indonesian children studying at Community Learning Centres (CLCs) under plantation companies in Malaysia are urged to use their gadgets to seek knowledge and information about Indonesia. Chief Representative of the Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) in Tawau, Aris Heru Utomo, said they need to learn more about their country in order to deepen their pride in being Indonesian. 'Use your mobile phones not just to search for entertainment but seek knowledge and information about Indonesia as much as possible,' he said. He noted that Indonesia is a vast country made up of over 17,000 islands, rich in natural resources and home to various ethnicities and religions. 'With a strong love for their homeland, they will understand their nation, including its geography, natural beauty and unity in diversity,' he said. He also encouraged Indonesian children in Sabah to appreciate the song 'Tanah Airku' composed by Saridjah Niung Bintang Soedibjo, better known as Ibu Sud, as it reflects national values and love for the homeland. Advertisement 'The lyrics show that no matter where Indonesians wander, they will always love their homeland. 'To love means to be proud, to uphold the good name and to defend Indonesia through attitudes and actions… And since you are students, your actions should be to study, study and study,' he said during a visit to the Mostyn Estate CLC in Kunak, as part of the 'Consulate Goes to Community Learning Centre (CLC)' programme, which included a flag presentation ceremony by 57 of its students. He said the flag ceremony is important to nurture the spirit of Indonesian nationalism, while recognising the four national symbols: the red and white flag, the national language, the Garuda Pancasila emblem and the national anthem Indonesia Raya. He emphasised that it is the duty of all Indonesians, including students born and raised in Sabah, to honour and uphold these four symbols, which were forged by the nation's heroes. ISWAMI To Focus On Strategic Cooperation To Tackle Current Challenges
GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) -- The Ikatan Setiakawan Malaysia-Indonesia (ISWAMI), a Malaysia-Indonesia journalist forum, will focus on strengthening strategic cooperation to ensure the dissemination of accurate and responsible information, with the aim of deepening mutual understanding between Malaysians and Indonesians. ISWAMI Malaysia president Ashwad Ismail said that the cooperation between ISWAMI Malaysia and Indonesia, established in 2005 as a bridge to strengthen media relations between the two countries, must now take into account current challenges, including the growing influence of artificial intelligence (AI). 'In this era of uncertainty and a divided world, coupled with the wave of artificial intelligence (AI) that is impacting all aspects of society and national life, the media, as originators of ideas and nation-builders, must take on a more proactive role in addressing challenges and promoting regional prosperity,' he said in a statement today. He said this in response to a meeting between Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Indonesian Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Viada Hafid in Tokyo, where both parties highlighted ISWAMI's vital role in strengthening media relations between the two countries. In this regard, Ashwad said ISWAMI Malaysia will hold follow-up discussions with Indonesian media partners to draft a joint action plan that includes journalist exchanges, professional training programmes, and the organisation of regional media forums and dialogues. He said this initiative aims to strengthen the media capacity of both countries by promoting media accountability through inclusive and solution-oriented journalism. Ashwad added that in an era of digital challenges and the rapid, complex spread of information, close cooperation among media organisations is crucial to ensure the delivery of accurate and responsible information and to foster mutual understanding between the people. He emphasised that, driven by the spirit of camaraderie, ISWAMI believes media professionals, journalists, and content creators can serve as vital agents in building shared prosperity between the societies of both countries. 'ISWAMI not only serves as a bridge to strengthen the network of professional journalists but also acts as a catalyst for fostering understanding and rapport among the people through more inclusive and forward-looking storytelling,' he said.

Diplomats in Indonesia echo India's urgent call for united global efforts to counter terrorism
The leaders of the National Mandate Party (PAN) of Indonesia on Thursday conveyed to the Indian all-party delegation that they stand with New Delhi and categorically stated that "religion and race cannot serve as a basis for exporting terrorism." The Resident Ambassadors of friendly countries in Indonesia that the Indian all-party delegation met with strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms and echoed the urgent need for united global efforts to counter this menace. The all-party parliamentary delegation, led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, is here with a mission to convey New Delhi's unequivocal stance about India's fight against terrorism to local political and diplomatic leadership, think tanks and media. The delegation met with National Mandate Party (PAN) leaders including Eddy Soeparno, Vice Chairman of PAN, also Deputy Speaker of Indonesian People's Assembly; Viva Yoga Mauladi, Vice Chairman of the Party and also Deputy Minister For Transmigration Republic of Indonesia, and other leaders and Members of Parliament from PAN. The Indian parliamentarians shared views on India's stance on zero tolerance for terrorism, a post on X by the Indian Embassy in Jakarta said. "The PAN party leadership expressed condolences to the victims of the gruesome terror attack in Pahalgam, India. PAN leadership conveyed that they stand with India and categorically stated that religion and race cannot serve as a basis for exporting terrorism," the post on X added. The Members of Parliament joining the meeting from PAN also included Dessy Ratnasari, Farah Putri Nahlia, Okta Kumala Dewi, Dr Drajad Wibowo, Slamet Ariyadi and A Bakrie. The delegation interacted with Resident Ambassadors of friendly countries in Indonesia and shared their insights on India's calibrated and strong response through Operation Sindoor. Terming the interaction as a "substantive dialogue," Jha said in a post on X after the meeting that the Ambassadors "strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, echoing the urgent need for united global efforts to counter this threat and uphold regional peace and international security." The Indian team also held an insightful interaction with scholars and researchers from Indonesia-based think tanks and academia and conveyed a strong and unified message of zero tolerance for cross-border terrorism to maintain peace and regional stability. The team "sought to jointly explore ways to combat the menace" of terrorism, the Indian Embassy said in another post on X. Earlier on Wednesday, the delegation met Indonesian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Arief Havas Oegroseno and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn. The Indian team also interacted with Muhammad Husein Fadlulloh, Vice-Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation, and Muhammad Rofiqi, Chairperson of the Indonesia-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, to sensitise them on India's strong commitment against terrorism. Besides Jha, the delegation comprises MPs Aparajita Sarangi (BJP), Abhishek Banerjee (TMC), Brij Lal (BJP), John Brittas (CPI-M), Pradan Baruah (BJP), Hemang Joshi (BJP), former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid and former ambassador of India to France and Bahrain Mohan Kumar. The delegation is one of the seven multi-party delegations India has tasked to visit 33 global capitals to reach out to the international community to emphasize Pakistan's links to terrorism. Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack, with India carrying out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in the early hours of May 7. Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The Indian side responded strongly to the Pakistani actions. The on-ground hostilities ended with an understanding of stopping the military actions following talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.
