11 stalls in Ayer Rajah Food Centre to relish while in Clementi

As someone who doesn't live in Clementi, I'd always thought that the only hawker centre near the MRT station was Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre. As it turns out, walking for around 10 minutes will lead you to yet another huge hawker centre— Ayer Rajah Food Centre boasts around 80 stalls from all sorts of different cuisines.
The next time you're in Clementi, check out these 11 stalls in Ayer Rajah Food Centre that will certainly satisfy you.
Moroccan food is hard to come by in Singapore, so you'll be delighted to learn that El Hassan within Ayer Rajah Food Centre serves affordable yet delicious Moroccan cuisine. Aside from more common fare like Chicken Drumstick w/ Rice (S$3.50 for 1 piece, S$6.50 for 3 pieces) and Fish Fillet w/ Rice (S$8), the stall has lesser found dishes that you'll want to try.
The Chicken Kebab (S$5) is absolutely stuffed with ingredients, and you can also opt to add Cheese Sauce for an extra S$0.50. The Chicken (S$5) is similarly packed with chicken and sauce, making it worth every cent.
Go for the unique fusion mee dishes, like the Creamy Mushroom (S$5) and Tuna Sauce (S$5)— each dish is made with mee you'd find in Malay noodle dishes, but in a more Western-style sauce.
Daily: 11am – 10pm
N.M Abdul Rahim is famous for its scarlet red (S$4.50), which has been stir-fried with sambal to give it its distinct colour. The recipe has endured since the stall's days as a pushcart at Shenton Way in the 1960s.
The wok hei fragrance mixes pleasantly with the shrimpy sambal for a unique scent profile— eaten with the chilli sauce, it tastes like a modified sweet and sour sauce.
Alternatively, the (S$4.50) dons a similarly vibrant hue, with a strong wok hei flavour and a strong spicy kick. Other dishes to savour include Nasi Goreng Ayam (S$5) and the hefty Combo (S$10).

In need of a cheaper alternative to pricier fried rice brands like Wok Hey? Enter Top Fried Rice, which offers fried rice in 5 different flavours, including Original Egg, Chilli, Tom Yum and Mala. What makes the stall stand out more is the fact that it also serves stir-fried ramen and fresh udon as opposed to just rice.
The Shanghai Fried Rice w/ Pork Cutlet (S$6.80) was flavourful and pretty smokey, while the Fried Rice w/ Beef Balls (S$6.80) was more intense and salty with a slight kick. The Fresh w/ (S$7) required a good mix for the sauce and flavours to be properly incorporated, and I found it to be an interesting stir-fried noodle dish worth trying. Not too shabby.
Daily: 11am – 8.30pm
The famous Allauddin's Briyani is a MICHELIN-recommended brand selling briyani from just S$6. The S$7 Set, available in the varieties of Chicken, Mutton or Fish, comes with an egg and papadum for some extra crunch.
Straight away, I was surprised at the generous portion of rice provided— the huge serving was probably good enough to feed 2 people! The flavourful briyani came with a large chicken leg, cucumbers and extra curry, and I was absolutely stuffed after this meal.
S$7 may be a bit steep for a briyani dish, but the portion size definitely made it worth it.

For a flavourful meal, drop by M. Mohamed Ismail for some classic comfort food. The menu is full of different combos that consist of cheese fries, nasi goreng, marinated meat and more, ensuring that you get to taste a bit of everything.
I opted for the Combo King (S$13), which came served with chicken doused in sauce, cheese fries, nasi goreng, a sunny-side up egg, cucumbers, tomatoes and beef. Given the liberal amount of sauce, this dish was certainly not lacking in flavour at all.
Other variations are the John Combo (S$12), served with a roti john, Combo (S$11) and Combo (S$10).

Power Rojak Bandung is a family-run business that has been in operation for around 23 years now. It offers around 4 types of rojak and 10 types of congee to choose from, and one of its owners, Mr Firdaus Bhai, is known for frequently posting on TikTok, even impressively garnering 85.9k followers!
The (S$6 for small) consists of bee hoon, kangkong, cuttlefish, tau pok, beansprouts, cucumber, turnip pieces, topped with crushed peanuts and served with a piece of calamansi. The bee hoon absorbs the flavours of the dish like a sponge, while the cuttlefish is tender and smooth.
You can also consider getting the Power (S$8), served with cucumber, pineapple, you tiao, tau pok, turnip cubes, century egg, preserved ginger and dried cuttlefish.

Those dining alone need not worry either, for the stall has plenty of single-serving dishes. For instance, the BBQ Fish w/ Rice (S$6.50) and w/ Rice (S$6.50) are perfect for seafood lovers, while the Black Pepper Chicken w/ Rice (S$6.50) and Dry Fried (S$6.50) are other tasty options.
West Coast BBQ Seafood also has a variety of fried rice like Fried Rice (S$6), Salted Fish Fried Rice (S$6.50) and Seafood Fried Rice (S$6.50).

Zoul's Corner is a great spot to stop by for some tasty ayam penyet. The brand, which was founded in 2002, has a concise yet tantalising menu full of fried treats you'll want to get your hands on.
The signature (S$7.50) comes with a huge fried chicken leg served with rice, beancurd, cucumbers, sambal and soup. For some added flavour, opt for versions with extra sauce, like Black Pepper (S$7.50) and (S$7.50).
If you aren't a fan of ayam penyet, they also have (S$10/S$11/S$12/S$13), served with fried fish, or Grouper (S$10/S$11/S$12/S$13), served with a fried grouper. Other dishes available include (S$5) and(S$5).

Xing Tian Yuan Restaurant is a simple yet tantalising zi char spot in Ayer Rajah Food Centre with lots of sharing dishes and single-portion dishes. Individual diners can indulge in meals like the Pork Rib King Rice Set (S$6), Spring Onion Beef Rice Set (S$6) and Slice Fish (S$6).
If you're looking to share some dishes with fellow diners, go for options like the Curry Fish Head (S$28), Hot Plate Beancurd (S$12/S$15) and Hainan Pork Chop (S$12/S$15). Personally, I'd love to try the Spicy Deep Fried Chicken (S$12/S$15), though the Prawn Paste Chicken (S$8 for 6 pieces) is an option you can't go wrong with.
How about an Oyster Egg (S$8) or Hotplate Deer Meat (S$20/S$25), for something a little more unique?

The variety of rice-based dishes sold at Mantul Ayam Penyet is pretty enticing, with classics like (S$5) and (S$4) gracing the menu. Of course, given the stall name, you can expect to find (S$7) here, served with rice, a huge fried chicken leg, sambal, tempeh, beancurd, cucumber and soup.
I loved how huge and crispy the chicken was, though it was a tad bland on its own without the sambal to pair. I was initially drawn to the Salted Egg (S$8) but that was unfortunately not available during my visit. Other penyet dishes include the Empal Penyet (S$9), (S$9.50), (S$10) and even more unique varieties like Fried (S$6.50) and (S$6.50). What a penyet lover's dream!

For a refreshing drink to pair with your main, Serangoon Soya Bean offers multiple variations of soy bean milk, freshly made daily. A cup of Milk starts at just S$1.30, though more unique options include Red Bean Milk (S$1.90), Almond Milk (S$1.90) and Fresh Pearls Peppermint Milk (S$2.50).
I ordered a Grass Jelly w/ Milk (S$1.30) (which the stall auntie affectionately referred to as 'Michael Jackson'), which came with bits of soft grass jelly within. Personally, I would have preferred for the drink to be sweeter to give it more taste, but those that enjoy less sweet soy milk would probably appreciate the healthier nature of this drink.
The stall also sells desserts like Grass Jelly w/ (S$1.90) and Bean Curd w/ Pearls (S$1.90).

The 50-year battle for Western Sahara

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Britain has become the latest country to back a plan to give limited autonomy to the disputed territory of Western Sahara, while keeping it under Moroccan control. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said the plan, proposed by Morocco, was "the most credible, viable and pragmatic" way to resolve one of Africa's longest-running and most frustrating regional conflicts. The dispute over Western Sahara – roughly 100,000 square miles of sparsely populated land to the south of Morocco and Algeria, and to the west of Mauritania – has become an "intricate" and "multifaceted political, diplomatic, and military contest", said Modern Diplomacy. It's an area "rich in Moroccan culture, Hassani heritage and natural resources", and, following the withdrawal of Spain's colonial forces in 1975, both Morocco and the Algeria-supported, pro-independence Polisario Front claimed it as theirs. Years of low-level fighting ensued until, in 1991, a UN-supervised ceasefire was agreed that left roughly three-quarters of the territory under Moroccan control. The remaining strip is controlled by Polisario, which has declared a "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic". For the past 30 years, the UN has been maintaining a peacekeeping mission in the Western Sahara to "monitor the humanitarian and security situation" and ensure compliance with the ceasefire agreement. But "the Polisario Front has not yet adhered to the decisions and recommendations of the UN mission". In 2007, Morocco submitted its Autonomy Initiative to the UN, proposing that Western Sahara manage its own internal affairs, while Morocco retains control over defence, foreign policy and currency. Though the initiative was warmly received by several African, Arab and European countries, it failed to get formal backing. Then in 2020, during Donald Trump's first presidential term, the US shifted position and recognised Moroccan sovereignty, in a quid pro quo for Morocco joining the Abraham Accords and normalising relations with Israel. Following the US lead, France declared backing for Morocco's plan last year, ending its "long-standing position of neutrality", said Bloomberg. Spain, Germany, as well as many Gulf States and Egypt have also backed the plan. Since US recognition of its sovereignty, Morocco has invested heavily in the region, sparking something of a development blitz. After years of conflict and diplomatic stalemate, the area is emerging "as a hotspot for investment, drawing European and American firms interested in fishing, agriculture and infrastructure projects", said The Independent. "The Western Sahara has gone from a disputed territory that was radioactive to foreign investors to an increasingly normal region that's receiving a growing flow of capital," Riccardo Fabiani, project director for North Africa at the International Crisis Group, told Bloomberg. Growing international support for Morocco's plan has left Algeria and the Polisario Front "fuming". The group – which some US lawmakers want listed as a terrorist organisation – has vowed to step up resistance and has claimed recent attacks against Moroccan forces near the Algerian border. Polisario has also "taken its fight to international courts", said The Independent. It argues that Morocco "does not have the right to trade resources belonging to the Sahrawi people, while the conflict remains unresolved". But alternative solutions seem unlikely. Last year, according to Reuters, the UN envoy for Western Sahara floated the idea of partitioning the territory to "allow for the creation, on the one hand, of an independent state in the southern part and, on the other hand, the integration of the rest of the territory as part of Morocco". Both Morocco and the Polisario Front rejected the proposal out of hand.

Real Madrid want to sign Moroccan wonderkid for free, ready to fast-track him through youth ranks

Real Madrid want to sign Moroccan wonderkid for free, ready to fast-track him through youth ranks According to a recent update from Mario Cortegana, it has come to light that Real Madrid are working on a move to sign 16-year-old Ajax sensation Abdellah Ouazane and are so impressed by his potential that they plan to place him directly into the U19 setup, skipping the U17 level entirely. Ouazane, one of the brightest prospects in the famed Ajax academy, has already made his mark in the Dutch club's U19 side this season. Advertisement Despite his young age, the forward has notched three goals in just four appearances, a feat that has caught the attention of scouts and analysts across Europe, including those at Valdebebas. Real Madrid are heavily impressed Although the move is not complete yet, reports suggest that there is strong optimism within the Real Madrid camp that a deal can be reached. Interestingly, it has also been learned that Ouazane's contract with Ajax runs down in June and Real Madrid intend to sign him on a free transfer. While it was initially unclear whether Ouazane would join Juvenil A (U19) or Castilla (Real Madrid B), Cortegana now affirms that the player would be slotted directly into the U19s, highlighting the high regard in which he is held by the club. Advertisement Real Madrid have already established contact with the Ajax hierarchy and are exploring how best to structure a deal that would bring Ouazane to Spain. As a result, there is enough confidence in Madrid that the transfer will go through. For now, what is certain is that there has been contact between the parties involved. For someone who was named best player at the African Under-17 Cup and has also played for the Netherlands Under-15 team, Real Madrid's interest is legit and a deal could be finalised soon.
