Don Mlangeni Nawa's cause of death finally revealed
The widow, Regina Nawa, made the revelation during the veteran star's funeral on Saturday, 26 April.
Nawa – known for his many soapie and telenovela roles – died earlier this month at the age of 65 years old.
Speaking at his funeral service, Don Mlangeni Nawa's widow, Regina, reflected on his final months, in which he battled an illness he hid from the public.
She told the crowd of mourners, 'My husband had prostate cancer. He did his first chemotherapy, but it never worked, he tried a second treatment, but it became so aggressive that they had to cut it short.
'He gained weight over time, but it was false weight. The chemotherapy caused a build-up of water in his body. He was in and out of the hospital until eventually, he was released and told to go home and die with his family.'
Don Mlangeni Nawa was given a short reprieve from his illness when he was given access to a medical protocol from overseas.
An emotional Regina continued: 'I was forced to stop working to care for him. We were struggling financially. I called on the Premier, who came running and bought the first set of his medication.
'I also reached out to the Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, who purchased the second batch, although my husband passed before he could finish it'.
Don Mlangeni Nawa is sadly not the TV industry's only victim of cancer.
Last year, fellow Isidingo actress Michelle Botes – who played villain Cherel De Villiers – died of a rare blood cancer at the age of 62.
In 2023, Carte Blanche presenter Derek Watts died of complications from skin cancer. He was 74 years old.
That same year, Binnelanders actor James Alexander died after a secret four-year battle with head and neck cancer. He was 45 years old.
Also in 2023, TV and radio personality Mark Pilgrim died from stage four lung cancer. Mark had shared his year-long cancer battle with his fans on his social media accounts.

Prince Kaybee slams Dricus: 'Why did he lie about white genocide?'
Prince Kaybee is one of many South Africans on social media who have called out Dricus du Plessis over his endorsement of US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, who have accused South Africa of promoting a 'white genocide'. Over the weekend, the MMA fighter was dethroned of the UFC Middleweight World Champion title belt by his opponent Khamzat Chimaev. On his X account, Prince Kaybee criticised Dricus du Plessis on his views on South Africa. He tweeted about the former UFC champion: 'Why did he lie or carry the white genocide propaganda? We have our differences. But in most cases, people just generally get along. I mean, I have white people who religiously listen to my music, and I appreciate them as people who support me. 'Why was he embracing the falsehood? Did he not think it would come with some backlash? What was he thinking, man?' Dricus du Plessis has not said anything relating to a 'white genocide'. However, he has shown public support for President Trump and Pretoria-born billionaire Elon Musk Earlier this year, Dricus infamously donned a slogan T-shirt that read: 'Trump prefers champions'. When asked about the re-elected president, the MMA fighter said, 'He is amazing, and I've had the privilege of meeting him. 'He said good changes are coming. He's holding many people and countries accountable for everything, and it's amazing to see'. Dricus du Plessis has praised Donald Trump and Elon Musk for speaking out about South Africa. Images via Instagram: @ufc Dricus also gave a 'big shout out to fellow South African Elon Musk for also doing the right thing.' In recent months, Trump and Musk have publicly condemned South Africa for 'racial discrimination' towards white people. According to the world's richest man, his home country is guilty of 'promoting a white genocide'. Like Trump and Musk, Dricus has often spoken out about his concerns for white South Africans, particularly farmer murders. At his UFC debut in 2020, he told the media of his home country, 'It's unbelievable, people are being murdered daily. Because it's Africa, a lot of the world doesn't see it. Nobody knows what is going on…I want the world to see what is happening in South Africa.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Minnie Ntuli makes triumphant return to Gagasi FM: fans celebrate her comeback on ‘The Uprising'
Minnie Ntuli makes a highly anticipated return to Gagasi FM's 'The Uprising,' reuniting with co-host Felix Hlophe after a brief hiatus. Image: Facebook/@Minne Ntuli Gagasi FM's Minnie Ntuli is back on the airwaves. The radio presenter returned to her morning slot on "The Uprising" alongside Felix Hlophe after stepping away from her duties in July. The station announced the news in a social media post on Monday morning, revealing that Ntuli has officially resumed her role. During her time away, her seat on the popular breakfast show was taken over by fellow presenter Nkulee Mbatha. Ntuli's absence followed a dramatic clash that was revealed during 'The Real Housewives of Durban' reunion, which caused a stir both on and off screen. In the heated moment, a never-before-seen clip was played, showing fellow castmate Londie London questioning Ntuli about her upbringing. Ntuli felt the comment was a direct insult to her parents. The confrontation quickly escalated, with Ntuli hurling a cushion across the room and accusing London of 'dishonouring' her parents. The tension boiled over when Ntuli poked London in the forehead while shouting insults, leaving her stunned but composed as she labelled Ntuli a 'bully.' At the time, the station publicly acknowledged her actions, saying she had apologised to the production team and her fellow cast members and reassured listeners that they were committed to supporting a process of healing and reconciliation. 'Our focus is on promoting reconciliation. Both Minnie and the other cast members are professionals in the media industry, and it is likely they will work together again in future,' the statement read. With Ntuli now back behind the mic, Gagasi FM appears ready to move forward. The comment section under the station's Facebook post has been filled with positivity, with fans celebrating her comeback. Many said they missed her voice and the energy she brings to mornings, and that they are excited to hear her back on the air alongside Hlophe. Miss Zyander Deleki wrote, 'I love Nkulee so much, but no one does 'The Uprising' better than this duo. Welcome back, Minnie.' While Khanyisile Ntuli said, 'Perfect combo, oh, we missed you a lot, Minnie, welcome back. I love the energy you bring to the show. 🥰' 'Welcome back💕everyone makes mistakes and we need to forgive,' said Sandy Goldwana.
