Bengaluru man claims brother, 19, exploited at Zepto Cafe, faces 13-day pay loss
A Bengaluru man called out the alleged mistreatment of his 19-year-old brother at a Zepto Cafe warehouse. In a detailed post on Reddit that has since gone viral, the man accused the Zepto Cafe in Marathahalli-3 of exploiting his younger brother, a warehouse employee. He claimed the teenager, who had been working long shifts to make ends meet, faced harassment from colleagues and bias from seniors, and is now being threatened with a 13-day salary cut after refusing to comply with an unscheduled demand for overtime.advertisement
'My brother (19 years old) works at the Zepto warehouse in Marathahalli-3, Bangalore, specifically inside the Zepto Cafe,' the man said. 'My brother is far from home, working hard to survive,' the user wrote. On June 3, the teen reportedly completed a 5pm to 2am shift. After the match-day celebration of RCB's IPL win, he received a sudden message from the cafe manager, who asked him to report back at 8am the next morning, just hours after his previous shift ended.'Suddenly, he got a message from the cafe manager telling him to report again at 8 AM the next day (June 4th) that's just a few hours later. He refused, and here's why: He was already scheduled for the evening shift, not the morning. He would've barely had 4-5 hours of sleep. No point unless you just pressure to show up. And after working hard, celebrating a rare RCB win is not a crime,' he added. advertisementHe declined the demand and pointed out that he was already scheduled for the evening shift on June 4. The fallout was swift. According to the post, the cafe lead told him not to come in at all and allegedly threatened to withhold 13 days' worth of wages.'And what happened next? He got a call from the cafe lead saying 'Don't come at all anymore!' - and they're now threatening to withhold 13 days of salary,' the man said. The post went deeper into the work environment as the man claimed his teen brother reportedly faced frequent harassment from a local co-worker, who allegedly monitored and falsely accused him.'On top of that, the work culture inside Zepto Cafe is extremely toxic: A local employee keeps harassing and falsely accusing him. If my brother uses his phone for even a minute, the guy runs to complain. If he speaks to other north Indian coworkers in Hindi, he gets accused of 'talking nonsense' or 'insulting the lead' — for simply talking in his own language,' the brother claimed in his post. The user added that other workers were allegedly made to create PowerPoint presentations unnecessarily, and resting during downtime drew shouts from the lead. 'It's discrimination, plain and simple,' he wrote.advertisementThe man said he has not filed a formal complaint yet, but is now actively exploring escalation routes. 'We haven't taken any formal steps yet, no complaints filed, no escalation, but we're seriously considering it. We'd really appreciate: Advice on what to do next, If anyone has experience with Zepto's HR or escalation paths and if there's anyone local in Bangalore who's dealt with similar issues, your support would mean the world to us,' the user said. "Cannot Be Silent": BCCI's Stern Signal After RCB Official Is Arrested Over Stampede At IPL Title Celebration
What was supposed to be a glorious moment for Royal Challengers Bengaluru has turned into its darkest after what happened a day after the side's first-ever IPL title win. After ending an 18-year drought, RCB received a hero's welcome in Bengaluru but the fanfare turned disastrous as 11 people lost their lives while close to 50 were injured. Four people have been arrested in connection with the stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. According to the police, Nikhil Sosale, a top marketing official of the RCB, was among those arrested. He was on his way to Mumbai when he was arrested from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, at around 6.30am. BCCI is now thinking to introduce guidelines for victory celebrations. "At some stage BCCI will have to do something. We cannot be a silent spectator," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told Cricbuzz. "It was a private affair of RCB but we at the BCCI are responsible for cricket in India and we will try to ensure such incidents do not recur in future." Earlier, Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir said that road shows should not be held at all after such victories. "I think the lives of people are far more important and I will continue to say. We can be a little bit careful of not holding these kinds of roadshows and can probably have them closed doors or something like this in a stadium," India coach Gautam Gambhir said. "When I used to play, I didn't believe much in roadshows. I don't believe in them today and I don't believe in them in the future. Winning is important, celebrations are important, but more important than that is the life of any person. So if we are not prepared, or if we cannot handle the crowd in that way, then might as well these roadshows should not take place." India's star batter Smriti Mandhana expressed her grief at the death of 11 people in a stampede on Wednesday near the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Mandhana posted on her Instagram account, "Heartbroken to hear about the lives lost in Bengaluru. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones. Please stay safe, everyone."

Siddaramaiah's political secretary dismissed, ADGP intel shunted out
A day after the suspension of top police officials in connection with the June 4 stampede at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Karnataka government on Friday dismissed MLC K Govindaraj from the post of Political Secretary to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The decision, though not officially linked to the incident, appears to be part of a broader damage control exercise by the government. An official notification issued by the Chief Minister's Office said, 'The appointment of K Govindaraj as Political Secretary to the Chief Minister is hereby revoked with immediate effect.' Govindaraj, a key political aide to Siddaramaiah and a prominent figure in Karnataka's sports circles, was closely associated with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations that ended in tragedy, with 11 people dead and over 50 injured in a stampede outside the stadium. Although the government has not publicly cited reasons for the move, officials suggest that the decision followed growing criticism of Govindaraj's involvement in the event and the surfacing of a letter he wrote on June 4. In the letter, addressed to government departments, Govindaraj had requested 'arrangements for a big celebration for the RCB team in Bengaluru on Tuesday.' The letter has reportedly caused embarrassment to the Chief Minister's Office. Earlier in the day, Govindaraj distanced himself from the controversy, denying reports that he had advised the Chief Minister against a full-fledged victory parade from the airport to Vidhana Soudha. 'Who am I to advise the Chief Minister?' he said, adding, 'I would be the last person to advise anything on cricket, since I head the Karnataka Olympic Association.' A sports administrator and the current president of the Karnataka Olympic Association, Govindaraj's sacking follows closely on the heels of the abrupt resignation of LK Atheeq, the Additional Chief Secretary to the CM, earlier this week. Both exits have further fuelled speculation that the government is struggling to contain the fallout from the deadly crowd surge. On the same day, the government also transferred Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Intelligence, Hemant M Nimbalkar. He, however, continues to hold charge as ADGP and Commissioner, Department of Information and Public Relations. Opposition parties criticised the government's recent actions, calling them reactive and politically motivated. Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra accused the Congress-led government of acting only under public and political pressure. 'The state government has acted only after coming under pressure… Action has been taken against RCB and the Karnataka Cricket Association. The Chief Minister suddenly suspended senior police officers, including the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, and five other officials,' Vijayendra said.

RCB event was state's call, KSCA tells Karnataka HC; gets interim relief from arrest in stampede FIR
BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) stated before the Karnataka High Court, in its petition challenging the First Information Report (FIR) registered against its office bearers, that celebrating the RCB victory was, in fact, the call of the State Government as it felicitated the players at Vidhana Soudha in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and several cabinet ministers with all the secretariat and police higher-ups being present. The KSCA contended that the KSCA and M/s DNA met the Chief Minister and sought his support and blessings for the event and a program was organised on the steps of Vidhana Soudha. The Chief Secretary was guiding the event and the Government supported the event. The management of the gates of the Chinnaswamy stadium is the responsibility of RCB franchise, M/s DNA, who executes under the direction of the police, the KSCA claimed. The KSCA further stated that the incident was an accident due to sudden rush and surge and no intention of motive can be attributed, particularly to the petitioners, because the gate management and crowd management was not the responsibility of KSCA and it was of RCB, the organiser and the police. The KSCA Managing Committee only handles the venue of Chinnaswamy Stadium on rentals and it controls the cricket in Karnataka. It does not deal with the audience and spectators or fans. The order of suspension of police officers clearly blames the failure of the police department and, in turn, the police cannot victimise the petitioners for none of their faults. Now, the very complainant is suspended for dereliction of duties. However, the Chief Minister has issued a dictum for the arrest of the petitioners which is not their domain, the KSCA stated in its petition. 'There is absolutely no wrong that can be attributed to the petitioner committee or its office bearers as they stand aloof of any liabilities against the entire unfortunate incident. Despite having shown gratitude by extending independent compensation from its side, the KSCA and its office bearers are put to undeserved misery by way of naming them as accused of the offences', the KSCA narrated in the petition.
