Nicola says baby hated the violin...until she played her Baby Shark!
However, Nicola Benedetti, 38, has revealed she has had to work hard to gain the approval of one discerning critic - her baby daughter.
The Ayrshire-born musician said her one year old girl 'absolutely hated' it every time Benedetti picked up the violin and would 'immediately start crying'.
It is only due to the violinist's perseverance and the fact she dropped her usual repertoire of classical pieces in favour of popular children's song Baby Shark that she eventually won the tot round.
In an interview on BBC Four show Women's Hour, Benedetti, who welcomed her baby daughter with American jazz musician husband Wynton Marsalis, 63, last year, said: 'When she was six or seven months and I started playing the violin she just immediately started crying. Not crying joyfully at all. She absolutely hated it.
'I don't think she hated the sound. I think it was more like I was holding [the violin] instead of her.
'It was this instinctual sense of this thing that now mum's got. You know it was a barrier between me and her.
'It is because I can't pick her up when I've got the violin in my hand.
'But I just then quite slowly would start sort of playing things that I guess were more familiar to her.
'And playing [while] sitting on the floor, very close to her. Playing a couple of little notes and seeing the interaction and just trying to make it fun.
'And there was like a change moment where she just started to love it and now she does.'
When asked if her repertoire for her daughter included the children's song Baby Shark, she said: 'I think I've probably done that a few times.
'I think I have. I've added some extra, nice harmonies and made it interesting.'

Toni Laites emerged victorious from the latest series of Love Island but it's now been alleged that she was actually spotted by a top ITV producer when he was on holiday Toni Laites emerged victorious from the latest series of Love Island when she and now-boyfriend Cach Mercer were voted the nation's couple. But now, it's being claimed that the US native, 25, was actually handpicked by a top ITV boss who spotted her working in a club when he was on honeymoon to star in the show. Olivia Attwood, who shot to fame on the third series of Love Island in 2017 and now has a successful TV career with a string of documentaries and a regular spot on the Loose Women panel, has alleged that this year's winner didn't apply for the show in the traditional manner. She said: "You know Mike Spencer, the producer? He found Toni in Vegas, she was a cabana girl - he was on his honeymoon." Olivia explained that the ITV boss simply struck up a conversation with the then-bar girl and decided there and then that she would be a good addition to the ITV2 programme, from which she eventually walked off with the £50,000 prize. She said: "He met her, got chatting with her and told her, 'you'd be amazing on Love Island'. That's how she got on [the show]." The former TOWIE star then explained that she had spoken to Toni herself, and claimed that the Love Island beauty is in a little bit of a predicament because she hasn't been back home 'for months' thanks to her career suddenly taking off in the UK. But Olivia was quick to offer her advice. During an appearance on Pete Wicks ' Sunday Roast podcast, she added: "I said to her, 'what are you going to do? When was the last time you went home?' She said, 'I haven't been home for months, I don't know what to do'. Because she's now got this boyfriend who's English. If I was her, I'd want to make the most of it and stay here for a bit." Toni and Cach made it to the final after weeks of being coupled up in front of millions of Love Island fans, and managed to beat Harry and Shakira and Yas and Jamie to the top prize with 33% of the vote. And since she has become the first American to be in such a position on the UK version of the hit franchise, Toni admitted that she 'never expected' any of it at all. Discussing her aspirations at the ITV Reality event, Toni revealed: "The love has been insane. I never expected it in a million years honestly.", reports the Daily Star I think for me this is all new. It's a whole new world so I'm still trying to find my feet. "There's a lot of opportunities at hand but I think presenting is my thing. All the love is so incredible so shout out to the UK." In her first interview alongside her now-boyfriend after leaving the villa, she hinted that a move to the UK could be on the cards as she explores opportunities that have come with her newfound fame. During an appearance on last Friday's This Morning, she told hosts Joel Dommett and Emma Willis: "Crazy, isn't it? I don't think I'll be spending much time in America. No decisions are made yet but obviously, but Cach is here, I have a lot of opportunities coming up, my friends are here. I see no reason to be in America anymore." Toni also explained just how 'insane' it is to her and Cach that they are now suddenly very famous in the UK after weeks of living in the Spanish villa, and noted that she even had her 'doubts' about their reception prior to landing back after the show had finished. She added: "Insane, I was a very regular person before the show and now there's like millions of comments and followers." NFL star Travis Kelce wants to ‘do good' with fame from dating Taylor Swift
The 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end also said he did not like negative comments that had been made about him since his relationship with Swift, who announced her 12th studio album The Life Of A Showgirl on Tuesday, began. Speaking about increased media scrutiny in an interview with British GQ, Kelce said: 'You can't block that (attention) out. If someone says something that they don't like about you, you have to be able to understand how you are portraying yourself for them to say that. 'I don't want anyone to say anything negative about me. Some people don't give a f***. I'm someone who does care. 'I do want people to look at me like I'm doing good in the world, I'm influencing and using my platform for the better, being a role model, being somebody that has done it the right way.' But Kelce said he was not offended by being dubbed a 'meathead jock', and added he finds it funny and that 'acting like you're the smartest one in the room just isn't the way to go'. He said that as well as being the 35-year-old Shake It Off singer's boyfriend, he was also a 'fan' of her music, and enjoyed seeing her come to his matches. The American footballer went on to speak about Swift's similarities to his mother Donna, adding: 'Their kindness, their genuineness, their ability to say hello to everyone in the room. 'Their ability to show love and support no matter what. And on top of that, their work ethic. I saw my mother reach goals that she had set for herself, go from being a teller to working all the way up in the KeyBank building. 'I've seen Taylor do the exact same thing of setting goals for herself and exceeding the expectations and really captivating the world in that regard.' During his NFL career, Kelce has won three Super Bowls, and hosts the New Heights podcast alongside his brother Jason, who is a retired NFL player. American visits Poundland for first time and is floored by 'unexpected' discovery
YouTuber The Magic Geekdom visited a Poundland store for the first time and she was blown away by the size of one department as she exclaimed she was "not expecting" it An American YouTube star visited Poundland for the first time and was left stunned by the products on offer in one department. Cara, who runs t he Magic Geekdom channel which boasts more than 77,000 subscribers, and she updates her followers on her travels around the UK. One British tradition she had yet to experience was a visit to iconic high street budget store Poundland, but that changed as she updated her fans in her latest video. It was the size of the clothes department that really shocked Cara as she compared it to a similar US chain called Dollar Tree. She said: "I've never actually gone shopping in a Poundland. There's a whole clothing department I was not expecting. I feel like in the US our Dollar Trees do not have this many clothes. "I was not expecting a whole section of clothes, like this is huge. Do you see this? This whole clothing section is giving Primark. I'm just curious. I don't think I'm going to buy anything but I did see some slippers I thought were cute. It's so loud in here." Poundland was founded in 1990 and now boast more than 800 stores. The YouTuber spent a significant amount of time in the budget store, perusing the aisles as she compared the products on offer to what one might expect to find in a Dollar Tree store in the USA. Cara added: "I don't know, I'm going to say, and granted a dollar costs less than a pound. I mean a pound is worth more than a dollar. "These seem like better quality things than you would find at the dollar tree in the US. I think you would be hard pressed to find a set of kitchen utensils for that cheap in the US. The sign says there are over 1,500 items that are a pound or less. "They do have a little bit of everything here don't they. The car station area, they've got a bike pump." In another video, Cara claimed she had discovered the UK's 'most overlooked city' as a visit there left her stunned. She could not contain her excitement when she went to Leeds. She expressed her surprise at the beauty of the city, highlighting Leeds City Museum as a prime example of the city's allure. The YouTuber said: "This was my very first time in Leeds and it completely blew me away! "From beautiful architecture to incredible markets and independent shops, this city has so much to offer."
