NBFCs outpaces Banks in credit growth in FY25: BCG Report

New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) have significantly outpaced commercial banks in credit growth during Fiscal Year 2025, according to a report by Boston Consulting Group (BCG).The report reveals that NBFCs recorded a robust 20 per cent credit growth, a substantial margin over the 12 per cent growth observed in the banking sector. This accelerated expansion by NBFCs, particularly driven by the Gold NBFC category.India's NBFC sector's total net advances mirrored this growth, also increasing by 20 per cent year-on-year to reach Rs24.5 lakh crore. This propelled the overall balance sheet size of the NBFC industry to Rs28.2 lakh crore, marking a 20 per cent rise from the previous fiscal year. Total borrowings by NBFCs also saw a significant uptick of 22 per cent to Rs19.9 lakh crore, reflecting increased funding activity to support their expanding operations. The report also sheds light on other critical aspects of the NBFC sector's health. While overall profitability showed an 8 per cent year-on-year increase in absolute profit for the sector, the Microfinance Institutions (MFI) category faced a sharp decline in Profit After Tax (PAT) by 95 per cent. This contrasts with the broader NBFC trend, where a marginal improvement in the Cost to Income ratio from 36.7 per cent in FY24 to 36.2 per cent in FY25 indicates enhanced operational efficiency. Asset quality for the NBFC sector improved marginally, with Gross Non-Performing Assets (GNPA) improving by 10 basis points from FY24. However, the MFI category did experience a rise in NPAs, despite the overall sector improvement. Most NBFCs are well-capitalised, meaning they have enough financial reserves to handle potential risks, even if their capital levels saw a slight adjustment from the previous year. Larger and more diverse NBFCs continue to be highly valued in the market. While banks have delivered better overall returns to investors in the last three years, the strong credit growth by NBFCs in FY25 suggests they will continue to play a vital role in India's financial system. The way NBFCs get their funding is also changing; some are relying more on bank loans, while larger ones are looking more towards public deposits and other funding sources. Additionally, NBFCs are increasingly focusing on providing loans for personal needs and vehicles. (ANI)

As a result, the Sensex closed 823 points down at 81,692 points, with L&T, Infosys , and ICICI Bank contributing the most to the index's loss for the day. Tariff-related uncertainties and rising crude oil prices also weighed on investors, market players said. On the NSE , Nifty closed 253 points lower at 24,888 points. At 2.8%, retail inflation eases to over 6-year low
Representative image (Picture credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: Retail inflation plummeted to a 75-month low in May as food prices eased sharply. It is expected to moderate further in June, which may prompt the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to hit a pause in its rate-cutting cycle after undertaking a "jumbo" cut earlier this month to support growth in the face of easing price pressures. Data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) on Thursday showed retail inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), slumped to 2.8% in May, below the 3.2% in April. It is the lowest year-on-year inflation after February 2019 and is the fourth consecutive month when it has stayed below the RBI's 4% target. Food inflation eased to nearly 1% in May, with a sharp decline of 79 basis points during the month compared to April. Food inflation in May is the lowest since October 2021. Rural inflation was at 2.6% in May, while urban inflation was at 3.1%. The data showed vegetable prices fell 13.7% in May, while pulses and products declined 8.2% during the month, and spices fell 2.8% in May. "While till Q3 FY26, we expect CPI inflation to remain less than 4%, it may only increase in the last quarter of the current fiscal. We expect average CPI inflation for FY26 would be around 3.3%-3.5% (RBI: 3.7%) as against FY25 average of 4.6%," said Soumya Kanti Ghosh, group chief economic adviser at SBI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Given this benign inflation expectations on the back of a 50 basis points rate cut recently in June policy, the current focus of RBI is to support the momentum in capital formation for more durable growth. We expect a pause in rate action here onwards till the Dec 2025 policy, though a lot will depend upon incoming data," said Ghosh in a note. SEBI encourages investors to use CeFCoM platform for paying advisers, research analysts
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 12 (ANI): Markets regulator SEBI encourages investors to pay fees to their investment advisers and research analysts through the Centralized Fee Collection Mechanism for investment advisers and research analysts (CeFCoM). In a statement, SEBI on Thursday said CeFCoM is a secure and transparent payment ecosystem developed to ensure that investors pay fees only to registered investment advisors and research analysts. It is an optional mechanism. CeFCoM is a payment mechanism that differentiates registered investment advisers and research analysts from unregistered entities acting as investment advisers and research analysts. CeFCoM has been operationalised from October 1, 2024 and is managed by BSE Ltd in association with MF Utilities India Pvt. Ltd. In CeFCoM, investors can make payment of fees through multiple payment modes such as Net Banking, Debit Card, UPI/UPI Autopay, IMPS/NEFT/RTGS, eNACH and even through Cheque and Credit Cards. As of June 10, 2025, an amount of fees of more than Rs 5 Crore has been paid by investors through CeFCoM, SEBI said in its statement. On Wednesday, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has announced launching 'SEBI check' tool to validate UPI handles and registered bank accounts for secured payments by investors. The 'Validated UPI Handles' and 'SEBI Check' will enhance Investor Protection and Combat deepfakes and cyber frauds. Investors can check on 'SEBI Sheck' whether a UPI handle or bank account is registered or not before making any payment. Investors can verify the authenticity of UPI IDs either by scanning a QR code or by entering the UPI ID manually. For bank details, investors can confirm the bank details such as bank account number and Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) of a registered intermediary. The core of this new framework will be a mandatory, structured UPI address for intermediaries, composed of a username and a unique handle. Username, will be a readable name chosen by the intermediary, followed by a mandatory suffix that clearly identifies their category, for example, brk for a Stock Broker or mf for a Mutual Fund. Valid handle will feature a unique and exclusive identifier, '@valid', combined with the name of the self-certified syndicate bank. These 'validated' handles will be exclusively allocated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) only for payment collection by SEBI-registered intermediaries. SEBI Check will be available to investors for use from October 1, 2025. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey said, 'In recent years, unregistered entities have increasingly misled investors by collecting funds without authorization, often siphoning off these amounts for personal gain. This new framework is designed to proactively curb such fraudulent activities, enabling investors to easily identify legitimate SEBI-registered market intermediaries and make payments to them securely and efficiently.' To address cyber frauds, Deepfakes and issue of impersonation, SEBI says new tool will enhance investor confidence, as investors can now find out whether intermediaries who is asking for funds are registered or not. SEBI Chairman said, 'This innovative mechanism is set to significantly improve the safety and accessibility of financial transactions within the securities market by providing a verified and secure payment channel.' SEBI Chairman added that the regulator will work with online play stores to show only validated Apps for payments. (ANI)
