The Kentucky Derby 2025 results are in, with Sovereignty winning in a wet and sloppy race.

Heading into the race, Journalism stood as the favorite with odds of 7-to-2, coming into Saturday's race on a four-race winning streak. Sandman came next with 9-to-2 odds while Sovereignty, which finished as runner-up in the Florida Derby, had 9-to-1 odds at race time.
There were also some horses with strong lineage, including Luxor Café, the offspring of 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Luxor Café was vying to become the first Japanese horse ever to win the Kentucky Derby, having won four straight races in Japan.
Render Judgment also had a famous owner. The colt was raised at Dream Walkin Farms, owned by the late country singer Toby Keith. The singer also named Render Judgment before his passing last year from cancer.

The Kentucky Derby took place in some inclement weather, with heavy rain turning the track at Churchill Downs into muddy slop with heavy puddles.
Heading into the Kentucky Derby, expert Al Bernstein of NBC Sports predicted there would be a "fairly hot pace" with a decent chance of an upset finish.
"Among the horses who could be fighting for the lead are Citizen Bull, East Avenue, American Promise, Neoequos and Owen Almighty," Bernstein predicted. "These are all quality horses from top trainers who have proven their ability to be competitive in tough races while running on the front end. Also, the huge field size can often produce a longshot who tries to 'steal' the race on the front end. In any case, it is reasonable to expect a fast pace."

Denshattack! is a blend of Tony Hawk, trains and shonen anime

Denshattack! is what happens when Tony Hawk trades in his skateboard for a high-speed Japanese train. Yes, you read that correctly. Denshattack! is the latest game from Barcelona indie studio Undercoders, and it's a delirious, high-speed action experience complete with flow states, a banging original soundtrack, flamboyant characters and coming-of-age drama. Players attempt to keep their train moving while jumping, wall riding, spinning, landing tricks and nailing combos. Between the rail-hopping action, there's a fully voice-acted story (in English and Japanese) about overcoming oppression and finding your true friends. It's a wacky mix of ideas, but it all comes together in a Jet Set Radio type of world that looks like a real thrill. Undercoders is based in Spain, but the studio founders have spent a lot of time backpacking through Japan, visiting the trains specifically. In a virtual briefing ahead of Denshattack! 's reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2025, director David Jaumandreu and his team couldn't stop giggling about how much they loved trains, and it was all fairly adorable. Denshattack! is due out in early 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and it'll be available day-one on Game Pass. It features music from lead composer Tee Lopes, who's best known for Sonic Mania , Sonic Frontiers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge , and additional artists from video game music label Kid Katana will contribute to the soundtrack.

Kai Asakura accepts 'harsh criticism' after UFC 319 loss

Kai Asakura hears the criticism loud and clear, and he's trying to channel it properly. At UFC 319, Asakura (21-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC) was submitted for the second time in as many fights since coming over to the promotion from RIZIN. "I'm truly sorry to everyone who supported me," Asakura wrote Monday on Instagram in Japanese. "Honestly, I'm disappointed in myself. Things don't always go as planned, but I won't give up and will keep working hard to get back on track. "I'll become stronger and prove it with results so that I can someday look back on this loss as a positive experience. I'll accept harsh criticism and come back stronger." Asakura, 31, is one of Japan's biggest combat sports stars but has struggled in the UFC. He debuted in a title fight in December and lost to Alexandre Pantoja by second-round submission. Then on Saturday in Chicago, longtime flyweight staple Tim Elliott upset Asakura, also by second-round submission. Prior to his UFC signing, Asakura held RIZIN gold. Notable wins included Kyoji Horiguchi and Juan Archuleta among others.
