Jena Kingsley Releases Latest Book, 'Darcy Dates', a laugh-out-loud and unfiltered dating diary based in New York City
Darcy Dates is the perfect balance of comedic, cringey and touching. You will belly laugh, you may tear up, you may want to look away at times.
'Jena is the rare author who is as good at storytelling as she is at making her readers squirm from TMI and ache from belly laughs.'— Gary Belsky. New York Times bestselling author
NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, May 14, 2025 / EINPresswire.com / -- Critically acclaimed comedian, writer and viral content creator Jena Kingsley will publish her hotly anticipated debut book, 'Darcy Dates', on June 3, 2025. Equal parts diary and modern rom com, " Darcy Dates " expands the cult favorite blog of the same name into a full-length narrative that chronicles Darcy's return to the New York City dating scene as a newly single mom — with all the cringe, comedy and candor her fans have come to adore.
The media has called her work 'Genius' and 'Brilliant.'
Based on the original posts that first went viral when BlackBerrys ruled the world, 'Darcy Dates' follows protagonist Darcy, a divorced single mother as she navigates the dating world on New York's Upper East Side. Darcy encounters people who carry, 'more baggage than any bellhop at the Pierre Hotel could handle,' said the author.
Darcy begins to document her dates in the form of a blog, which becomes her diary. 'Darcy Dates' provides the reader with hilarious comedy, sometimes cringey, and at times emotionally touching. Kingsley shared, 'You will definitely belly laugh, you may tear up, and sometimes you might want to look away. One thing is clear, you will cheer on and support Darcy in her quest for love. As in many cases where a seeker is looking for love, Darcy finds herself in the process.'

LA protest weapons, extreme winter weather, protein in coffee: Catch up on the day's stories
👋 Welcome to 5 Things PM! Forgetting things is frustrating, but humans aren't designed to remember everything. An expert offers five tips to improve your memory of the important things. Here's what else you might have missed during your busy day: 1️⃣ Weapon watch: To quell protests in Los Angeles, police have used 'less lethal' weapons to minimize fatalities, prevent permanent injuries and decrease property damage — but that does not mean they are harmless. Here's a look at the equipment authorities have used. 2️⃣ A deep freeze: A new study found the collapse of a critical system of Atlantic Ocean currents could bring extreme weather, with winter temperatures plunging to around minus 55 degrees Fahrenheit in some cities. This interactive map helps visualize the impacts across the globe. 3️⃣ Love over looks: Natasha Burns, a 6-foot-5-inch-tall model, found her now (shorter) husband on Tinder. But as dating apps allow paying users to set height preferences for potential partners, is it getting in the way of finding true love? 4️⃣ Gains in your cup of joe: Starbucks is testing a new banana flavored protein cold foam at five US locations. Revising the menu and starting to bake some pastries fresh in store is all a part of the CEO's plan to expand into the wellness sector and reverse sagging sales. 5️⃣ Living off the land: Celebrities and influencers have transformed the image of farm living from backbreaking labor and mucked-up boots to romantic cottage dresses, sunlit ranches and tablescaping. A new wave of luxury resorts is capitalizing on the agrarian rebrand. 😋 Epic eats: In Japan, 7-Eleven stores are known for taking snacks to the next level. LGBTQ Representation In Movies Hits 3-Year Low, GLAAD Finds
After reaching a record high in 2022, LGBTQ representation continues to decline in movies. On Wednesday, GLAAD released the 13th edition of its Studio Responsibility Index (SRI), which found that LGBTQ-inclusive films dropped to 23.6% of releases from 10 top studio distributors during the 2024 calendar year, down from 27.3% in 2023 and 28.5% in 2022. More from Deadline Pride Month Viewing: 20 Buzzy LGBTQ Movies Of 2025 'I Don't Understand You's Husband Writing-Directing Duo Talks "Horror Movie" Adoption Experience, "Amazing" Italian Crew & Their Son's Cameo 'Queer as Folk' Cast Reuniting For 25th Anniversary At Pride Live! Hollywood, Plus 'Golden Girls' Birthday & Norman Lear Tribute The SRI also found that, only two films (less than 1%) featured transgender characters; 37% of LGBTQ characters had less than one minute of screen time; only 27% had more than 10 minutes of screen time, down from 38% last year; LGBTQ characters of color made up the lowest percentage since 2019 at 36%; and there were no LGBTQ characters living with HIV in any of the 250 films tracker. 'This year's findings are a wake-up call to the industry. At a time when LGBTQ people are facing unprecedented attacks in politics and news media, film must be a space for visibility and truth,' said Sarah Kate Ellis, GLAAD president and CEO. 'Representation isn't about checking a box — it's about whose stories get told, whose lives are valued, and creating worlds that mirror our own society today. When done authentically, LGBTQ representation builds audience and buzz, while humanizing LGBTQ people as those in power are actively working to take away our humanity.' Meanwhile, gender parity was reached among LGBTQ characters for the first time in five years, at 50% women, 48% men and 2% nonbinary; and A24 was the only studio to receive a 'Good' rating with the highest percentage of LGBTQ films. Looking at releases from A24, Amazon, Apple TV+, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery, as well as their subsidiaries and streaming services, films were judged based on the basic standard for meaningful LGBTQ inclusion, as outlined by GLAAD's Vito Russo Test, named after a co-founder of the organization. The 2024 titles that passed the Vito Russo Test include Love Lies Bleeding (A24), Problemista (A24), My Old Ass (Amazon), Drive-Away Dolls (NBCUniversal), Mean Girls (Paramount Pictures), Fancy Dance (Apple TV+), Good Grief (Netflix), Rez Ball (Netflix), Sweethearts (Warner Bros. Discovery), Housekeeping for Beginners (NBCUniversal), The Radleys (Lionsgate), Ricky Stanicky (Amazon), Between the Temples (Sony Pictures Entertainment) and Prom Dates (The Walt Disney Company). Following the Trump administration's attacks on DEI and recent attempt to cancel Pride Month, several LGBTQ films are finding their ways to the screen this year. Last-Minute Father's Day Gift Idea: An Infomercial Icon for 27% Off
If you're still blanking on what to buy Pops for Father's Day, I come with deliverance. We've assembled the best last-minute Father's Day gifts, all of which either off super-fast shipping or require none at all. You won't be the black sheep of the family this year — or if you are, it's not because failed to get Dad a gift. But there are even more great gift ideas popping up and catching our eye with each passing second — that can still make it to your papa if you act quick. The Magic Bullet, aka the GOAT of small and idiot-proof (trust me) blenders, is currently 27 percent off, and if you order today, it will arrive before Sunday. I have a surprising amount of fondness for the informercial-famous Magic Bullet. I'm not just talking about the seamless pleasure of using the small appliance, which is revered for its ability to pulverize everything from onions to ice at the touch — actually, it's more like a bop — of the top of its blending chamber. Decades later, the Bullet is still my Proustian appliance of choice, reminding me of simpler days spent sitting on a shag carpet, slamming Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and watching its dancing blades steal the show from all the other As Seen on TV products. (Minus the Shake Weight, of course.) The first Bullet I blasted off was actually at the house of my then best friend's dad, who was very in-the-know, loading up on DVDs and treating his kids to the spoils of the Furby universe. All of this to say: I think every self-described 'hip and food-loving dad' has, at some point in his life, dreamed of firing up a Magic Bullet. Luckily, the Magic Bullet of today is more affordable than it was decades ago, and you don't have to order it with a rotary phone. This saucy little model, for example, is an 11-piece set that includes BPA-free plastic cups for blending, a 250-watt motor base, a to-go lid, and a 10-second recipe guide. You know, so your dad can finally make that iconic omelet from the infomercial. The Magic Bullet is 27% off on Amazon .
