KTR comes to aid of TG woman trapped in Oman
Afrin, a native of Godavarikhani, had travelled to Oman for employment after being assured a domestic worker's job. However, upon arrival, she was locked in a room, denied food, and subjected to severe physical and emotional abuse by her employer. Attempts to switch jobs only led to more harassment.
Despite seeking help from multiple sources and reaching out to the Indian Embassy, Afrin's pleas went unanswered. Eventually, her ordeal reached KT Rama Rao through a BRS party worker. Responding without delay, Rama Rao directed party leader Harish Reddy from Ramagundam to take up the matter and coordinate her rescue. With support from KTR's office, contact was established with the Indian Embassy in Oman. To facilitate her release, Rs 1,20,000 was paid to the local agent. Following this, arrangements were swiftly made to bring Afrin back to Hyderabad.
Upon her arrival on Sunday, Afrin visited Telangana Bhavan to thank KTR in person. Overwhelmed with emotion, she said, 'It is only because of KTR's support and assurance that I was able to return home safely. In a foreign land where I had no one, he stood by me like a protective elder brother.' As a gesture of gratitude, she tied a rakhi on his wrist.
KTR expressed happiness over her safe return and inquired about her family's well-being. 'While no government came to her aid, it was our party and our leadership that stood by her,' he said, promising continued support to Afrin and her family.He also praised the efforts of Harish Reddy, who coordinated the rescue mission from Muscat to Hyderabad.

In his statement, Sharma said India has withstood pressures and threats in the past and emerged stronger. "President Trump is mistaken that India does not have options. As the fourth largest economy India has resilience and inherent strength to engage with the world on principles of equality and mutual respect," Sharma said. "Signing of a robust economic and trade agreement with the UK is most welcome. India should prioritise concluding India-EU Trade deal. It is equally important to engage with major trading blocs and regions: Africa Union, ASEAN, GCC and LAC to deepen market access and trade," Sharma said. He said the government must not succumb to Trump's "bullying tactics" to sign a "suboptimal" trade deal. "India must uphold its sovereignty and supreme national interests. Govt working on support measures to insulate exporters from Trump tariff: Official
iStock Representative image New Delhi: The government is working on certain support measures for exporters in sectors like textiles and chemicals to insulate them from the impact of the Trump tariff, an official said on Monday. US President Donald Trump has announced an additional 25 per cent import duty on Indian goods entering America from August 7. The official said that the commerce ministry has held meetings with several export sectors, including steel, food processing, engineering, marine, and agriculture, to understand issues they may face due to high tariffs. Indian exporters from various sectors, including food, marine, and textiles, have sought financial assistance and affordable credit from the government to cope with the 25 per cent Trump tariff. Exporters are requesting the government to extend fiscal incentives such as interest subsidy and extension of RoDTEP scheme (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products), RoSCTL (Rebate of State and Central Taxes and Levies), timely payment of dues, and a direct shipping line to the US. The ministry is considering these demands, the official said, adding that the ministry will also engage with states to support the exporters. The sectors, which would be impacted by the high tax of the US, include textiles/ clothing, gems and jewellery, shrimp, leather and footwear, chemicals, and electrical and mechanical machinery. Sectors such as certain textile items, chemicals and shrimp are at a more disadvantageous position because India's competitor nations, including Bangladesh (20 per cent), Vietnam (20 per cent) and Thailand (19 per cent), have lower duties, an exporter said. Another exporter said that the US is a major export destination for Indian shrimp. "Now the exporters should explore new markets such as the UK, China and Japan," the exporter added. Electronics, including smartphone exports, are recording healthy growth in the US despite uncertainties.
