Development of railway infra in west segment brought to fore
Development of Simhachalam railway station, request for additional entrances and booking counters on both sides of the station to improve accessibility, expansion of parking facilities at the station, road widening work from Baji junction to Simhachalam north railway station, among others, formed part of the representations made to the DRM.
While some of the road widening and extension works form part of the VMRDA Visakhapatnam Master Plan for new formation, the others included long pending issues. As residents of Dayanandnagar, Chakaligedda, and Mutyamamba Colony face risks of crossing railway tracks for essential purposes like schools and hospitals, the need for an underpass access at Chakaligedda was highlighted.
Also, to ensure safe pedestrian access, the MLA requested a new subway or construction of foot over bridge, sanctioning of a new underpass, building of road along the naval quarters to improve connectivity. 'In VMRDA Visakhapatnam Master Plan, we propose that the road from Baji junction to the Airport via Kakani Nagar and Viman Nagar, following the NH-16 corridor, be developed as a 15 to 20 mt-wide road,' Ganababu stressed, requesting the DRM for a site inspection and review the feasibility of the proposals made.

Karnataka Deputy CM Shivakumar rides college-day bike on newly inaugurated flyover ramp in Bengaluru. Watch
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar Monday rode his fully-restored Yezdi motorcycle on the Airport flyover ramp, moments after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the newly built loop. Shivakumar had bought the motorcycle for Rs 10,400 during his college days. The deputy chief minister had faced embarrassment after a scooter he had borrowed to inspect the same loop earlier was found to have pending traffic fines amounting to Rs 18,500. The new 700-metre stretch, government sources claimed, would ease the commuting experience of those traveling from KR Puram and Nagawara towards the city centre. The Rs 80-crore construction project began in 2024, featuring a 100-metre up-ramp and a 600-metre stretch extending towards Mekhri Circle. The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) encountered multiple setbacks during the construction phase, missing at least three completion deadlines. Officials cited challenges, including delays in departmental clearances and the complexities of construction while maintaining traffic flow on the heavily used flyover. Shivakumar said the traffic congestion on the stretch would be reduced by 30 per cent. However, on the day of the inauguration, traffic on airport road took a major hit with the police barricading several roads for VIP movement. Bengaluru (South) MP Tejasvi Surya took to social media to highlight the issue of traffic congestion. 'On my way to Delhi this morning to attend Parliament, I was stuck at Hebbal Junction for nearly 50 minutes along with thousands of people and almost missed my flight. All because the state government chose a Monday morning peak hour as the appropriate time for the flyover inauguration program. A long weekend was just behind us – they could easily have picked a time with minimal disruption. But the last thing ever considered is the comfort of commuters. Neither in project design nor in inauguration planning is the public kept in mind. It's always for the politicians, by the politicians,' he added. Reacting to Surya's post, Shivakumar said, 'We cannot answer for all claims. We are here to serve people, don't worry.'

'UER-II is not just an infrastructure project… It is an investment in the future of Delhi. It will improve traffic flow, cut travel time drastically, and uplift the quality of life for lakhs of people living in Delhi and NCR,' the CM asserted. The UER-II, the CM underlined, will emerge as the backbone of high-speed connectivity, linking Delhi not just with the National Capital Region (NCR) but with the entire country. Travelling to Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Jaipur and even Mumbai will become faster and more convenient. It is truly a 'transformative' project for the people of Delhi and beyond, Gupta said. The CM made the remarks as she visited the inauguration site, along with senior officials and party leaders, to review the preparations for Sunday's event. Describing the project as a 'historic gift' for the city, Gupta said that the commencement of UER-II will not move Delhi closer to becoming a 'traffic-free' Capital. She added that the corridor will play a vital role in reducing congestion, lowering vehicular pollution and thereby contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. 'The pressure on Inner and Outer Ring Roads will be substantially reduced, while major junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Madhuban Chowk, Peeragarhi Chowk, Dhaula Kuan and NH-9 will no longer face heavy congestion. This will be a huge relief for lakhs of daily commuters,' the CM said. Gupta said that the corridor will begin at National Highway-44 (Alipur), traverse through Mundka, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh and Dwarka, and terminate at National Highway-48 near Mahipalpur. It is also expected to reduce travel time between Singhu Border to the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport from two hours to 40 minutes. The project will link to the industrial hubs of Sonipat and Bahadurgarh through dedicated link roads, giving a direct boost to industry and facilitating faster movement of goods, the CM highlighted. 'With smoother traffic flow and shorter travel time, fuel consumption will decrease significantly, contributing to lower emissions. The UER-II will directly aid in reducing air-pollution levels and improving the overall environment of the capital,' she underlined.
