Holidaymakers' beloved £157k BMW 'wrecked' after leaving it with meet-and-greet firm at Manchester Airport

Yahoo24-02-2025

A couple have told how they landed back at Manchester Airport from a holiday only to find a 'meet and greet' parking firm had allegedly crashed their brand new £157,000 BMW.
After alerting police, they found their badly damaged 24-plate BMW XM crashed into a hedge close to the airport on Saturday afternoon after landing on a flight from the Czech Republic.
The couple, who the Manchester Evening News has agreed not to name, allege the 'meet and greet' parking firm crashed the hybrid petrol-electric car after they called to summon the vehicle - and that the company didn't apologise and refused to reveal its location.

Their daughter, who was not with them at the time, told the MEN: "When they landed, they called to say they were ready for their car. But 45 minutes later there was no car and they called again. They said another car had gone into their car and to get a taxi home. They wouldn't give the location. They called the police and the police told them the location."
The couple, from Stoke-on-Trent, took a taxi and found their damaged car on Mill Lane near the junction with Castle Mill Lane in the Cheshire village of Ashley, near the airport.
Their daughter added: "They were really upset. They really loved that car. When their grandchildren went into it, they had to take their shoes off. The company just didn't care and they didn't even say sorry or that they would drive them home. They only found out where it was from the police."
Her father said: "That car means everything to me."
The Manchester Evening News called the company, which appears to be called Secure Parking Manchester, on the mobile number provided to the couple, and, after we revealed we were reporting an incident where someone from the firm appeared to have crashed the car, a man said: "I will pass it onto the office. They deal with the complaints' side and they will give you a call back mate."
No return call was received. The M.E.N. also sent an email to the address provided to the couple by the firm but there was no response.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police confirmed they were contacted by colleagues at GMP in connection with a BMW crashing into a hedge on Mill Lane at 1.53pm on Saturday February 22.
"There were no reports of any injuries, and the vehicle was recovered from the scene," said the spokesperson.
A spokesman for GMP said officer responded to a car in a ditch. The driver provided a negative breath test and no arrests were made, said the spokesman.
Neither force mentioned a second car being involved in the incident.

Top Scottish caddie avoids jail for sexual communications with child

Top Scottish caddie avoids jail for sexual communications with child A top Scottish golf caddie who told a 14-year-old that he would have sex with her avoided jail earlier this month. Daniel Mulvey, 35, sent a string of messages to his victim on the social media app Snapchat in July 2023. He had earlier met the girl and her friend near Glasgow's TRNSMT music festival, where he asked for her details. Mulvey, of West Kilbride, North Ayrshire, then contacted her that night to tell her that he would have sex with her. When informed of her age, Mulvey told the girl that he "actually didn't care" and wanted to "be your first." He was snared after the girl's "concerned" aunt secretly recorded the conversation. Mulvey was regarded in the top bracket of his profession, having worked alongside stars such as Gary Player. Mulvey has caddied at major tournaments such as The Open and the DP World Tour. He has also been pictured alongside U.S. President Donald Trump and golf legend Padraig Harrington. Mulvey's illustrious career faces ruin after he pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a single charge of sending written sexual communications to the girl. Sheriff Iain Fleming ordered Mulvey to do 150 hours of unpaid work at his sentencing on May 23. Mulvey was also put on the sex offenders register and under supervision for 18 months. Mulvey was given a police escort from court after he was berated by members of the public as he initially tried to leave the building. The court earlier heard that the girl and her friend met Mulvey while they took shelter from heavy rain near the TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green. The girl did not tell Mulvey her age of name but he "believed her to be slightly older." Mulvey gave the girl his mobile phone and asked for her Snapchat username. She passed him the details and she left the scene without meeting again. The girl went to her aunt's house later that night. Her aunt noticed that the girl was communicating on Snapchat with someone called 'Dan.' The aunt became 'concerned' and discreetly recorded the conversation on her mobile phone. The girl later told her aunt that she met Mulvey at TRNSMT. Mulvey stated to the girl that he 'honestly' would have sex with her, and he 'meant it.' He added: 'I can't stop looking at your pictures, I'm in bed thinking about you.' When the girl told Mulvey that she was 14 years old, he replied: 'Actually don't care that you are 14 by the way, you are so good.' The chat continued into the early hours of the morning when Mulvey asked if she was a virgin. He also stated: 'I want to be your first.' The matter was reported to the police and officers were able to link the phone number and email on the Snapchat account to Mulvey. Mulvey was arrested by police at Manchester Airport on December 14 and taken to a police office in Glasgow.

Is the 911 Hybrid Still a True Porsche? Video Review

There are so many Porsche 911 variants that it'll make your head spin. The 911 Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera T, GT3, GT3 RS, Turbo, Targa—you get the point. But snuck into the middle of the lineup is a highly significant 911: The 2025 911 GTS. The first hybrid 911. My first thought when hearing about the new GTS was: "Hybrid? Ew ." Hybrid is mostly a dirty word for driving enthusiasts, especially when it comes to sports cars. As was demonstrated by the new BMW M5 (which we reviewed last week on the channel), hybridization comes with weight and complexity. But when done right, hybridization can also genuinely enhance the driving experience, like with the 'holy trinity' of hypercars or, yes, even the newest Toyota Prius . With the GTS, Porsche tried to avoid as much bloat as possible while still adding performance. The 911 GTS is 110 pounds heavier than the previous 992.1, but the benefits of those 110 pounds are vast. With an electric motor adding 54 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque where the PDK clutches are, the GTS torque fills instantly. The 1.9 kilowatt-hour battery is mounted in the front/middle of the car, aiding weight distribution. And the hybrid drive means the entire engine accessory drive is gone, which allowed Porsche to move the engine 4.3 inches lower than before—a huge change. Sure, hybrid may be a dirty word for enthusiasts, but the 992.2 GTS challenged my notions of a hybrid in this latest video.
