Parts of Delhi, meanwhile, recorded heavy to moderate rain on Thursday, with the Palam area recording 79mm of rainfall until 5.30 pm, which led to the diversion of four Delhi-bound flights—two to Chandigarh and two to Jaipur.
Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the base station at Safdarjung recorded 16.6mm, while the Ridge recorded 34.4mm, Ayanagar recorded 51.1mm, and Najafgarh recorded 61mm.
The IMD classifies rainfall as 'light' when it is up to 15.5mm, 'moderate' when it is between 15.6mm and 64.4mm, 'heavy' when between 64.5mm and 115.5mm, and 'very heavy' when it is over 115.5mm in a 24-hour window.
Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) on a scale of 0 to 500 was recorded at 59, down from 66 a day earlier, with both readings considered satisfactory.
The Commission for Air Quality Management reiterated that, aided by favourable conditions, Delhi witnessed the best AQI in July 2025 since 2018. At 78, within the 'satisfactory' category, the air was "even cleaner than during the Covid-19 lockdown year 2020."
The average AQI for July was 104 in 2018, 134 in 2019, 84 in 2020, 110 in 2021, 87 in 2022, 84 in 2023, and 96 in 2024 respectively.

NEW DELHI: The national capital is likely to see yet another week of showers, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms to prevail till August 10. On Monday, the capital saw no rainfall despite a cloudy sky throughout the day. Weather officials noted the possibility of thundercloud development by evening or night and expected light showers in the early hours of Tuesday. However, no precipitation was recorded across key observatories, including Safdarjung, Palam, Lodi Road, and Ayanagar, between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. Temperatures in the city hovered below the seasonal norm. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 33.4 degree celsius, about 0.8 degree celsus below normal, while the minimum stood at 27.2 degree celsius, which was slightly above average. Similar trends were observed across the capital, with maximum temperatures ranging between 31.8 degree celsus and 33.4 degree celsus and minimums between 25.6 degree celsus and 28.1 degree celsus. Humidity levels remained high, peaking at 85% and dipping to a minimum of 66% over the past 24 hours. Winds blew mostly from the west at speeds up to 17 kmph. According to the IMD, the monsoon trough currently lies to the north of Delhi, extending from Amritsar through Uttarakhand to the northeast. Multiple cyclonic circulations persist over Himachal Pradesh, south Rajasthan, and other adjoining regions, which are contributing to the capital's current weather pattern. For the rest of the week, Delhi is expected to see partly cloudy skies with a continued possibility of very light to light rain or thundershowers, especially in the evenings, the forecast said. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain in the range of 32-34 degree celsus till the weekend.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.8 degrees Celsius, one notch below the season's average. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 32 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 75 per cent. No rainfall was reported in the past 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department. Delhi's air quality remained in the satisfactory category, with the Central Pollution Control Board recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 99.
