Miss Teen USA contestant who overcame childhood homelessness killed in horrific Florida crash
An 18-year-old Miss Teen USA pageant queen who survived childhood homelessness and an abusive mother was killed in a car crash, according to reports.
Kadance Fredericksen, a student at Baker School in Okaloosa County, died after the car she was driving collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on a highway around 1.30 p.m. Monday, WKRG reported.
The other driver suffered minor injuries, the outlet reported.
In 2024, she was given the title of Miss Okaloosa County Teen USA.
She had just received acceptances to nine colleges and planned on becoming a veterinarian, her family told WKRG.
Miss Florida and Teen Florida USA Family released a statement in the wake of the tragedy: 'Our pageant community has lost a beautiful soul - one who was a true light in this world. She was ambitious, driven, kind, and a leader among her pageant sisters.'
The statement continued: 'Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all who are mourning this devastating loss. May we honor her memory by carrying forward the light she so effortlessly shared with the world and our Florida pageant community. Forever our queen.'
'Kadance was a beacon of light in our community, known for her compassion, tireless advocacy for children in need, and unwavering dedication to making a difference,' Baker School Principal Michael Martello told WEAR-TV a statement, referring to her advocacy work.
She founded Kada's Promise in 2017, which provides teddy bears and blankets to children in foster care, homeless shelters, abuse shelters and hospitals. Her inspiration for the program stemmed from her firsthand experience. During her childhood, Fredericksen's mother was abusive and she struggled with hunger and homelessness while 'being groomed by her biological mother's husband,' a statement on the Kada's Promise website reads.
'During many dark times in my early childhood, the only thing that I could call my own or that made me feel safe was a single teddy bear that I received as a gift,' she said.
Her biological father and stepmother gained custody at some point and in 2017 her stepmother formally adopted her.

Reality star and escort found dead in pond as police arrest active duty Marine in connection with her murder
An active-duty Marine has been charged with the murder of a missing reality star and escort after her body was discovered in an Alabama pond. Willie Richard Ellington, 20 – who was stationed at NAS Pensacola, on Florida 's Gulf Coast – was charged with first-degree murder and possession of child pornography Saturday, said the Escambia County Sheriff's Office in a Facebook post Thursday. Ellington is alleged to have murdered missing 26-year-old Tshey Ronaie Bennett – a mother of one – after the pair met up at the Sweet Dreams Inn in the town of Pensacola along the Sunshine State's Panhandle, around 4 p.m. Friday, said police. Investigators believe that she was working as an escort at the time she met up with the suspect. After 'suspicious circumstances surrounding her disappearance' her body was found ditched in a pond over 50 miles away across state lines in an abandoned neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama, Thursday, said officials. Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones praised the investigative efforts of his office and Escambia County and revealed that a tip-off led them to the suspect. Jones said, as per WKRG: 'Escambia County investigators tipped us off their suspect might be on a bus scheduled to stop in Opelika. 'Our team quickly scrambled to the station and set up a surveillance operation. When the bus arrived, investigators spotted and apprehended a man matching the suspect's description.' Officials then found Bennett's body – who they say was murdered in Northwest Florida before her body was bizarrely dumped in Mobile. Police did not specify how the victim's body ended up in the pond nor did they reveal the exact cause and manner of her death. In the Thursday statement, police shared: 'Throughout the investigation, it was determined that Tshey Bennett was working as an escort and had met the suspect at the Sweet Dreams Inn at the time of her disappearance.' Her friend, Muranda Newson, posted a heartfelt tribute to the 26-year-old mom and her son on Facebook: 'I hate that I'm typing this. I hate that handsome boy who is hurting. 'I really really hate someone did this to you baby you didn't deserve this at all. So sweet so smart so about your money baby I just don't understand.' Bennett had worked as an escort and even made an appearance earlier this year on Season 1 of the HollyHoodTV series Skrippa Bootcamp – a reality television show that followed the lives of 12 women and their exotic dance careers. Police also shared the investigation had been further complicated by information released prematurely before they were able to notify her family and before investigators were able to locate Ellington. He is reportedly being held at the Lee County Detention Facility and will face extradition, according to WRBL.

Tarzan star Ron Ely's cause of death released
Ron Ely 's cause of death has been released two months after the Tarzan actor died in September at the age of 86. The Texan actor who starred as the title character in NBC 's 1960s Tarzan series, died from end-stage heart disease, according to his death certificate obtained by TMZ. End-stage heart disease is considered to be the most severe form of heart disease and occurs when the heart becomes too weak to pump blood effectively, according to Mass General Brigham. A person diagnosed with end-stage heart disease is at risk of dying within the next six to 12 months. While Ely died on September 29 at his home in Los Alamos, California, his death wasn't reported until October when his daughter, Kirsten Casale Ely, confirmed the news. 'He was an actor, writer, coach, mentor, family man and leader,' Kirsten said in an Instagram post at the time. 'He created a powerful wave of positive influence wherever he went. The impact he had on others is something that I have never witnessed in any other person — there was something truly magical about him.' Ely may not have been quite as well-known as Johnny Weismuller, the Olympic swimmer who played Tarzan in the films in the 1930s and 1940s, but he was still integral to forming the image of the musclebound, loincloth-wearing character viewers know today. The actor was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie Lundeen Ely, who in 2019 was tragically stabbed to death in their California home by their 30-year-old son, Cameron Ely. Cameron was subsequently shot and killed by police. Ely, who was home at the time of the stabbing, later challenged the prosecutor's report that his son's shooting was justified. 'If he didn't have a gun or he didn't have a weapon, what was the basis of shooting him?' Ely's attorney John Burris said in 2020. 'They may have very well thought he was involved in some other activity involving the mom. But that's not a basis to shoot and kill him. You have to have a lawful basis to do that.' Ely and Valerie met in the early 1980s when the actor was the host of the Miss America pageant, and Valerie was Miss Florida. They married in 1984. They had three children, and Ely eventually retired from acting to focus on his family in 2001. 'Late in life I had a young family. I decided to stop acting and work at home, as an author, that way I could be with the kids all through school and be able to attend their sports games and things,' Ely told The Daily Express in 2013. Along with Kirsten Casale Ely, he is survived by daughter Kaitland Ely Sweet, who remembered him as 'a true American hero' in a separate Instagram tribute. 'My dad. My first and longest love. I will forever miss his laugh, ah the best laugh in the world,' Kaitland wrote. 'He lives on within us. His teachings are in us. His light shines through us. His knowledge runs deep throughout my veins.'
