DuTrac Diaper Drive helps area families in need
DuTrac Community Credit Union wants to help QCA families who need diapers.
The credit union's second annual Diaper Drive focuses on diaper insecurity among families in need. The drive runs through May 31 and this year's goal is to collect 7,500 diapers across all DuTrac branch locations for families through distribution partnerships with United Way Dubuque Area Tri-States and Hiney Helpers of the Quad Cities. The Diaper Drive began last year and over 3,700 diapers were collected.
'We are excited to partner again with DuTrac for their annual Diaper Drive,' said Danielle Leibfried, president/CEO of United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States. 'These resources are incredibly valuable to our local communities. This will help many young families with already tight budgets meet their basic needs. Thank you to DuTrac for recognizing and stepping up to fill a gap within our community.'
'We know that many hardworking families in our communities struggle to afford basic necessities, and no parent should have to choose between buying diapers and other essentials,' said Andy Hawkinson, DuTrac president and CEO. 'Through the generosity of our members and the power of community partnerships, we can help ease this burden and make a real difference in the lives of local families.'
Residents can donate diapers of any size or make a monetary donation at any DuTrac branch. All donations stay local; contributions made at each DuTrac branch will be distributed to partner organizations serving that community.

FTSE annual reports now longer than The Da Vinci Code as red tape goes mad
The average FTSE 100 annual report is now longer than The Da Vinci Code as a blizzard of red tape forces companies to churn out epics that almost nobody fully reads. The word count of FTSE 100 company reports has increased by 27pc since 2019, according to research by the Quoted Companies Alliance (QCA), rising to 152,000 on average – around 13,000 words longer than Dan Brown's 2003 mystery novel. Some companies produce updates more than double that length. Devoted readers of HSBC's annual report may have to set aside a week or two to get through the 341,880 words over 446 pages that detail the goings on at the London-listed bank. That is almost 100,000 words more than Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Corporate updates have ballooned in size thanks to a growing list of regulatory requirements and greater scrutiny of issues such as pay, gender and ethnic balance within companies, and the environmental impact of a business. In its latest report HSBC devoted more than 90 pages to corporate governance, while its environmental, social and governance (ESG)-related disclosures ran on for more than 40 pages, as it discussed financed emissions and how the bank manages climate risk. Remuneration reports for companies listed on the main market of the London stock exchange have grown in length by 40pc since 2019, now averaging 10,000 words. ESG-related disclosures were found to be around 11,000 words on average, an increase of 236pc since 2019. While such candour may sound worthy to some, James Ashton, the chief executive of the QCA, said the sheer length of most reports was doing more to obscure information than reveal it. He said: 'Annual reports can be vital tools for shareholder communication, but as chapter after chapter is added to them every year, it's time to call a halt. 'We need to focus on what's really important to engender investor trust and confidence and discard the waffle that distracts from delivering growth.' Across all segments of the London Stock Exchange, the length of the average annual report has now ballooned to 98,000 words, which is longer than J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. Even reports on London's junior AIM market, which is meant to be more light-touch, clock in at 42,000 words on average, longer than CS Lewis's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Mr Ashton called on the Government to rethink the UK's corporate reporting regime and work to simplify and standardise reporting requirements for quoted companies. The QCA wants the requirements for environmental disclosures to be cut down and more simplified rules around reporting on pay. The Department for Business and Trade is expected to hold a consultation later this year on changes to the UK's non-financial reporting framework. North Riverside Park Mall, area non-profit Gifts From Liam team up for diaper drive through May
North Riverside Park Mall is teaming up with the non-profit Gifts From Liam to collect diapers for families in need while honoring the life of one special little boy. Anna Calix, founder and executive director of Gifts From Liam, and Jeanne Heller, marketing director for North Riverside Park Mall, joined Jewell Hillery on Sunday's WGN Weekend Morning News to talk about the diaper drive. Sunday Brunch: Afternoon tea at Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel in the Loop is a great Mother's Day option Calix explained how she turned her personal tragedy into a way to help others in need and honor a son who died at birth. 'I was working in perinatal care when I got pregnant with my first child, and so I knew all the things about pregnancy and birth, and had a perfect, beautiful pregnancy,' Calix said. 'I had three baby showers. I had everything I needed to have the best possible outcome. 'And despite all of that, Liam died and was stillborn on his due date in 2016.' As she grieved the loss of her son, Calix was struck by the fact that so many families struggle with obtaining basic necessities for babies, things she had gotten more than enough of during her pregnancy with Liam — like diapers. 'I knew that I would always have support with my child,' Calix said. 'I never was concerned about having a village to take care of him. '… I really just wanted to do what I could to help other families in need, so I just started giving Liam's things away, his diapers and other items, just to help other families.' Calix hosted a diaper drive on what would've been Liam's first birthday, and that led to the creation of Gifts From Liam. 'What's more essential in terms of material needs than a diaper?' Calix said. '… We got about 20,000 diapers in that very first year, and so I said, 'I guess this is what we need to do for Liam's birthday every year.'' Chicago Fire Foundation, Meridian Health team up for the P.L.A.Y.S. Program And North Riverside Park Mall is helping out, too. Heller says the mall has been a 'community gathering place for 50 years,' so it was 'all-in' over the idea of collaborating with Gifts From Liam on a diaper drive. That's now become part of what the mall is doing for a fun Mother's Day initiative. 'We created kind of a fun thing for Mother's Day to get people to go around doing acts of kindness, just holding the door for a mother, or saying thank you to a security guard for keeping Mom safe,' Heller explains. 'They do five of those things on a bingo card, they can come back and get a crocheted rose.' Read more: Latest Chicago news and headlines Donating to the Gifts From Liam diaper drive also counts for that bingo card. But the diaper drive doesn't end on Mother's Day, as it runs through the end of the month.
