Espionage accused YouTuber Jasbir Singh sent to 14-day judicial custody

Mohali (Punjab) [India], June 10 (ANI): YouTuber Jasbir Singh who was arrested on espionage charges, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by a Mohali court. Jasbir's lawyer, Mohit, on Monday said that Jasbir will stay in custody until June 23. 'He was produced in the court. He has been sent on a 14-day judicial remand. He will stay in judicial remand until June 23. After discussion, we will file a bail application,' Mohit remarked. Jasbir Singh, who ran the YouTube channel 'Jaan Mahal,' is allegedly linked to a terror-backed espionage network involving Pakistani intelligence operative Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, as per police sources. He is also said to have maintained close contact with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, previously arrested for spying, and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and expelled Pakistan High Commission official, said the police. On Wednesday, Punjab Police's State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), SAS Nagar has arrested a YouTube influencer for spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav, Information and Public Relations Department, Punjab, in an official statement. Earlier, DGP Gaurav Yadav said that the accused, Jasbir Singh, has been found associated with Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO) Shakir alias Jutt Randhawa, part of a terror-backed espionage network. He also maintained close contact with Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra-- arrested for spying by Haryana Police-- and Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, a Pakistani national and expelled Pakistan High Commission official, as per the statement. He said that investigations have revealed that Jasbir attended the Pakistan National Day event in Delhi on Danish's invitation, where he met Pakistani Army officials and vloggers. The accused has also travelled to Pakistan on three occasions, including in 2020, 2021 and 2024, and came into direct contact with ISI officers, who subsequently cultivated and recruited him to carry out espionage activities within India, he added earlier. The DGP said that after Jyoti Malhotra's arrest, the accused, Jasbir, had attempted to erase all traces of his communications with these PIOs to avoid detection. Further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader espionage-terror network and identify all collaborators, he added. (ANI)

"If provoked, we reserve the right to defend ourselves": All-Party Delegation member Milind Deora

Mumbai, Maharashtra [India], June 9 (ANI): Shiv Sena MP and member of the All-Party Delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, Milind Deora, on Monday asserted India's resolve to defend itself if provoked, while emphasising the country's commitment to peace during the visits under Operation Sindoor's diplomatic outreach programme. Speaking about the delegation's recent visits, Deora highlighted India's firm stance against terrorism and its growing global stature. Deora expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, and his party leader Eknath Shinde for the opportunity to be part of the global outreach programme. 'I was very pleased to be part of the delegation that travelled to the United States, and I am grateful to the Prime Minister, the External Affairs Minister, and my party leader Eknath Shinde for this opportunity,' he said. The delegation visited four countries--Guyana, Panama, Colombia, and Brazil--before concluding its tour in the United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, with the other nations being non-permanent members. Deora clarified the delegation's objective, stating, 'Our stand was very clear--we were not there to make comparisons between India and Pakistan. The world already sees Pakistan as a failed rogue state, a banana republic, whereas India is viewed as a rising economic power.' He outlined the delegation's message, saying, 'Our message was straightforward: we do not want war; if we could, we would ignore the neighbour, we seek a peaceful and stable neighbourhood. But if provoked, we reserve the right to defend ourselves. Terrorism will not be tolerated, and if any such incident occurs again with Pakistan's involvement, we will respond firmly.' Deora was part of the delegation led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor which includes Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), and former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The delegation, during their visit, met with international partners on India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism. (ANI)
