Ready to dissolve assembly if statehood is restored: J&K CM

Omar who was in Gulmarg on Tuesday while responding to a recent report that if statehood is restored then J&K has to hold fresh assembly polls. 'As soon as the statehood is restored in J&K is a very good thing. I read in one newspaper that for restoration of statehood, the dissolution of assembly is mandatory. They should do it.'
Omar said that he isn't concerned about his chair and statehood is the right of people of J&K. 'I know who has planted this story with an aim to scare the assembly members who won't press for restoration of the statehood for next five years. This statehood isn't for any legislator or government this statehood is for people of J&K,' he said adding that legislator won't get scared by this warning.
'You should do it. The day statehood gets restored next day I will write to lieutenant governor to dissolve this assembly. Don't try to threaten us. Statehood is our right,' he said.
On Saturday, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah had said that his party would move the Supreme Court if there is an inordinate delay in the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
'Once statehood comes all the powers of the elected government will be restored. I am hopeful for the restoration,' Omar told reporters..'If the statehood is delayed then we will have no option but to move to the Supreme Court,' he said.
Recently during the flag off ceremony of Vande Bharat train, J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah had raised the statehood issue in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The J&K CM also raised statehood issues when PM Modi inaugurated Z Morh tunnel. The BJP leaders and central ministers have maintained that J&K will get statehood at an appropriate time, even some BJP leaders linked the J&K's statehood to an improvement in law and order situation.

BHUBANESWAR: Amid the allegations over rising dependence on private agencies for core engineering works in government projects, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed the chief secretary to conduct an in-depth review of all outsourcing practices adopted by engineering departments in the last 10 years. In a strongly worded note (accessed by TNIE), the chief minister has flagged that engineering departments, which traditionally carry out surveys, investigations, project designs, cost estimates and preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) using in-house expertise, have increasingly resorted to outsourcing these responsibilities to private firms. This trend, he stated, has been observed even in the case of minor infrastructure projects that could have easily been executed by government engineers. Emphasising that departments such as Works, Rural Development, Water Resources, and Housing and Urban Development have well-established technical wings with qualified and experienced engineers, Majhi questioned why such expertise was being sidelined. 'Earlier, the government engineers used to undertake these tasks diligently. The current outsourcing trend raises serious questions about the under-utilisation of the capabilities of government departments and the justification behind increasing project costs,' read the note. The CM has asked the chief secretary to submit a detailed report within a month outlining which departments have outsourced technical works in the last 10 years, the nature of the works outsourced and the private companies engaged, besides the financial outlay involved in these assignments. He also wanted to know whether the departments, or any other state government agencies, were capable of doing the same work and measures needed to empower them to execute such work in-house, including training and procurement of modern equipment. While the BJP-led government has started initiating a probe into the alleged practice, insiders pointed out that the practice of engaging external consultants and private agencies gained significant traction during the previous government. 'The use of project management units (PMUs) and technical consultants had become institutionalised across various departments under the earlier regime. Although these arrangements were often justified as a means to augment capacity and expedite execution, it gradually eroded departmental accountability and suppressed in-house expertise,' they alleged.

Air India tragedy: Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani's ashes immersed at Somnath Triveni Sangam
NEW DELHI: The ashes of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani , who was among the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, were immersed at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Somnath on Tuesday, in accordance with Hindu rituals. Rupani's wife, Anjali Rupani, and son, Rushabh Rupani, performed the rituals at Triveni Sangam. The ritual marked the completion of the final journey of the BJP veteran, who passed away recently. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat paid tribute on Tuesday to former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani, who tragically lost his life in the Air India AI-171 plane crash on June 12. "In the Air India plane crash, our very dear senior BJP leader and former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani lost his life. In this unfortunate incident, along with Vijay Bhai, approximately 280 people have lost their lives, and we, the party, their families, and all the people of the country, express our condolences. May God grant peace to their souls," Gajendra said. Rupani's last rites were conducted with full state honours in Rajkot on June 16.
