
AtkinsRéalis signs new execution contract for Darlington Small Modular Reactor Project Français
MONTREAL, May 28, 2025 /CNW/ - Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company [AtkinsRéalis Group Inc.] (TSX: ATRL), has been awarded a $450 million execution contract by Ontario Power Generation (OPG), for the first of four planned small modular reactor (SMR) units at the Darlington New Nuclear Project. The 300-megawatt BWRX-300 small modular reactor being delivered for OPG in Durham Region, east of Toronto, will supply enough power for 300,000 homes. 1
AtkinsRéalis is providing OPG with expertise for the engineering of the SMR. This includes project management, licensing, engineering, design, procurement, construction support and commissioning, as well as digital delivery capabilities in both the nuclear island and balance of plant scopes for the project.

AtkinsRéalis has been the architect-engineer on the Darlington New Nuclear Project alliance team since 2023. The Company is working alongside GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy and Aecon Kiewit Nuclear Partners. The site preparation work undertaken under an earlier validation phase contract has been completed on time and on budget. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has issued a license to construct the SMR, and the Ontario government has also given its final approval for construction of the first of four planned units at the site.

PLS PROJECT WINTER DRILLING DELIVERS POSITIVE RESULTS AT SALOON EAST
PERTH, Australia, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ - Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) (TSX: PDN) (OTCQX: PALAF) (" Paladin" or the " Company") is pleased to advise it has successfully completed a winter exploration program at the Patterson Lake South (PLS) high-grade uranium project in the Athabasca Basin region of Saskatchewan, Canada. The winter program was carried out in line with the Company's strategic objective to identify additional uranium mineralization outside of the Triple R deposit within the largely underexplored 31,039-hectare PLS project. View PDF The results represent the strongest radioactivity identified outside of the Triple R Deposit at PLS. Twenty drillholes totalling 7,102.9m were completed between February and May 2025, with eleven drillholes targeting the Saloon East area, 3.5km southeast of the Triple R deposit (Figure 1 and Table 1). All eleven drillholes at Saloon East intersected highly elevated radioactivity in multiple zones and over significant widths with downhole gamma probe peaks up to 51,303 counts per second (cps). Radioactivity across the Saloon East area has been defined by drilling in two areas separated by 550m (Figure 2), between 200m and 420m vertically from surface within a consistent package of steeply southeast dipping, hydrothermally altered and structurally deformed basement rocks. Drilling Highlights Paladin CEO, Ian Purdy said: "Our Canadian team are very encouraged by the initial results we are seeing at Saloon East. The drilling results at Saloon East represent the strongest radioactivity intersected on the PLS property to date outside of the Triple R deposit. All eleven Saloon East drillholes completed to date in 2025 intersected radioactivity and have provided exciting results over significant core lengths. The widespread presence of elevated radioactivity and hydrothermal alteration suggests that we are exploring a significant mineralised system." Overview of the Saloon Trend The Saloon Trend is a linear, multi-kilometre long, southwest-northeast trending structural zone up to 1km in width, that is parallel to and located 3.5km south of the shear zones that host the Triple R deposit within the Patterson Lake Conductive Corridor. The Saloon Trend has been a major focus of the 2024 and 2025 exploration drilling, with 27 drillholes completed along 8.8km of its strike length. Drilling in August 2024 in the eastern portion of the Saloon Trend intersected anomalous radioactivity in three drillholes, PLS24-680, 682 and 684B, in what was subsequently termed Saloon East. Drilling in the first half of 2025 followed up on the August 2024 results at Saloon East and intersected highly elevated radioactivity, with notable intercepts in drillholes PLS25-696 and 698. Drilling along trend to the northeast intersected a thick zone of elevated radioactivity in PLS25-693, leaving a highly prospective 550m long untested zone between the two established zones of radioactivity. Oil and gas leaders hear Carney's 'partnerships' pitch to make Canada an energy superpower
Prime Minister Mark Carney sat down with oil and gas executives in Calgary Sunday to discuss partnerships and to get their input for his plans to make Canada an energy superpower. Carney, in his first visit to Calgary since being sworn in as prime minister, held a closed-door roundtable with more than two dozen members of the energy sector. Attendees included Tourmaline Oil CEO Michael Rose, Pathways Alliance President Kendall Dilling, ATCO CEO Nancy Southern, Imperial Oil President John Whelan and Jon McKenzie, president of Cenovus Energy. 'I'd like to thank a number of you who wrote directly to me a month or so ago and I felt it would be best to get together and discuss it in much more detail than through an exchange of letters given the importance of the issues.' Thirty-eight CEOs of Canadian energy companies signed a letter congratulating Carney on his April 28 election win and pitching policy measures they say would help the prime minister make good on his promise to build the fastest-growing economy in the G7. That would include scrapping the federal emissions gap on oil and gas producers and repealing industrial carbon pricing to help bolster the industry. The CEOs want an overhaul of the Impact Assessment Act, which sets out the process for assessing major projects, and of the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, which bans oil tankers carrying more than 12,500 metric tons of crude from stopping along parts of British Columbia's coastline. Carney campaigned on expediting reviews of major energy infrastructure projects. He promised before the election to move forward with a 'one project, one review' approach by recognizing assessments conducted by the provinces and territories. The federal government unveiled its proposed emissions cap regulations late last year. They would compel upstream oil and gas operations to reduce emissions to 35 per cent below where they were in 2019 by sometime between 2030 and 2032. 'Partnership is a theme for our discussion this morning,' Carney said, accompanied by Energy Minister Tim Hodgson, Dominic LeBlanc, the minister responsible for Canada and U.S. trade and Emergency Management Minister Eleanor Olszewski. 'It's a critical time for our country. The world's certainly more divided and dangerous, and the imperative of making Canada an energy superpower in all respects has never been greater. We will do everything we can at the federal government level to support those partnerships.' Alberta Premier Danielle Smith was asked on her weekend radio show if she was concerned that the federal throne speech didn't include a mention of pipelines. 'He may not have said the words 'oil and gas' and he may not have said the word 'pipeline,' but conventional energy means oil and gas, and the only way to get it to market efficiently is through pipelines,' said Smith, who says she's hoping for a one-on-one with Carney at Monday's First Ministers conference in Saskatoon. Smith also praised Carney for being more willing to engage with the premiers on issues of national importance than his predecessor, Justin Trudeau. She was coy when asked about consequences if Carney doesn't deliver, saying she prefers to be optimistic. Carney also took a moment on Sunday to thank the Department of National Defence, the provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, and volunteers involved in fighting extensive wildfires and coordinating large-scale evacuations. 'The good news is those are proceeding well at this stage but of course it's not over until it's over and we're at the start of the forest fire season across the country,' he said. Oil and gas leaders hear Carney's 'partnerships' pitch to make Canada an energy superpower
Prime Minister Mark Carney sat down with oil and gas executives in Calgary Sunday to discuss partnerships and to get their input for his plans to make Canada an energy superpower. Article content Article content Carney, in his first visit to Calgary since being sworn in as prime minister, held a closed-door roundtable with more than two dozen members of the energy sector. Article content Attendees included Tourmaline Oil CEO Michael Rose, Pathways Alliance President Kendall Dilling, ATCO CEO Nancy Southern, Imperial Oil President John Whelan and Jon McKenzie, president of Cenovus Energy. Article content Article content 'Thank you for convening on a Sunday morning and also for what you've all been doing to help build our country…build our economy, build a future,' Carney said. Article content 'I'd like to thank a number of you who wrote directly to me a month or so ago and I felt it would be best to get together and discuss it in much more detail than through an exchange of letters given the importance of the issues.' Thirty-eight CEOs of Canadian energy companies signed a letter congratulating Carney on his April 28 election win and pitching policy measures they say would help the prime minister make good on his promise to build the fastest-growing economy in the G7. Article content That would include scrapping the federal emissions gap on oil and gas producers and repealing industrial carbon pricing to help bolster the industry. Article content The CEOs want an overhaul of the Impact Assessment Act, which sets out the process for assessing major projects, and of the Oil Tanker Moratorium Act, which bans oil tankers carrying more than 12,500 metric tons of crude from stopping along parts of British Columbia's coastline. Article content Article content Carney campaigned on expediting reviews of major energy infrastructure projects. He promised before the election to move forward with a 'one project, one review' approach by recognizing assessments conducted by the provinces and territories. Article content The federal government unveiled its proposed emissions cap regulations late last year. They would compel upstream oil and gas operations to reduce emissions to 35 per cent below where they were in 2019 by sometime between 2030 and 2032. Article content 'Partnership is a theme for our discussion this morning,' Carney said, accompanied by Energy Minister Tim Hodgson, Dominic LeBlanc, the minister responsible for Canada and U.S. trade and Emergency Management Minister Eleanor Olszewski. The world's certainly more divided and dangerous, and the imperative of making Canada an energy superpower in all respects has never been greater. We will do everything we can at the federal government level to support those partnerships.'
