KVIC disburses margin money subsidy of Rs 300 crore to 8,794 beneficiaries
Mumbai: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) on Thursday said it has disbursed margin money subsidy of Rs 300 crore to 8,794 beneficiaries across the country under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP). The disbursement was made against loan sanction of about Rs 884 crore, said KVIC which comes under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar said that under the visionary leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, PMEGP scheme has presently created a strong and effective base of self-employment in India. 'Khadi and Village Industries is not just a product today, but it is the essence of vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. This scheme has not only provided employment to lakhs of youth, but has also connected them with the power of entrepreneurship,' he added, All the six zones of the country actively participated in the disbursement programme. In total, 2,445 projects were approved for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry of South Zone, for which subsidy of Rs 80.26 crore was disbursed. In the Central Zone, subsidy of Rs 91.13 crore was disbursed for 2,366 projects of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand. A subsidy of Rs 62.68 crore was provided to a total of 2,167 projects in Eastern Zone for Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar and Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura in the Northeast. A subsidy of Rs 41.80 crore was given for 1,320 projects of Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Rajasthan in the northern region. At the same time, 496 projects in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa of the Western region received a subsidy of Rs 24.12 crore. Since its beginning till the financial year 2024-25, PMEGP has become a pillar of entrepreneurship and self-reliance in rural and urban India. A total of 10,18,185 micro enterprises have been established under the scheme so far, for which the government has sanctioned a loan of Rs 73,348.39 crore. In return, margin money subsidy of Rs 27,166.07 crore has been provided to the beneficiaries. So far, more than 90,04,541 people across the country have got direct and indirect employment through this scheme, which makes it one of the most effective self-employment schemes in the country.

Here's how. Chenab bridge Built at a cost of about Rs 1,400 crore between Bakkal and Kauri in J&K's Reasi district, the Chenab bridge stands 359 metres above the river bed level. It is 35 metres taller than the Paris' Eiffel Tower and roughly five times the height of Qutub Minar. The architectural marvel has been built across a gorge of the Chenab Bridge in Reasi. It is part of the all-weather railway line – USBRL – that will pass from Jammu to the Kashmir Valley. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The construction of the Chenab bridge was greenlit in 2003. However, there were several challenges to building the bridge due to the region's harsh terrain, safety concerns and court cases. One of the biggest obstacles was to construct it without blocking the flow of the Chenab River. Engineers had to walk on foot or by mule to work on the infrastructure project during the early stages of construction. 'Logistics was another major challenge given the inaccessibility of the location and the narrow roads. Many of the components of the bridge were built and fabricated on site,' Giridhar Rajagopalan, deputy managing director of Afcons Infrastructure, told BBC. File Photo/PTI The bridge's design and construction have been done by a joint venture comprising Afcons Infrastructure, South Korea-based Ultra Construction & Engineering Company, and VSL India. With a lifespan of 120 years, the Chenab bridge can resist high-velocity winds with speeds up to 260 kmph, extreme temperatures, earthquakes, and hydrological impacts if water levels rise. The bridge, which can support trains running up to 100 km per hour, is also blast-proof as Afcons claims it can withstand high-intensity 'explosion of up to 40 kg of TNT' and trains could continue to run even if there was damage to a pillar, albiet at reduced speeds. Why Chenab bridge is a big deal for India The Chenab railway bridge will be a big strategic boost for India. The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project will provide all-weather rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country. Earlier, the only land route linking the Valley to the rest of India was a 300-kilometer Srinagar-Jammu national highway. However, it has to be shut down often in winter when roads are blocked due to snowfall. Landslides also make the Jammu-Srinagar national highway inaccessible. Experts say the rail link could boost Kashmir's economy by facilitating trade. It will offer a hassle-free transport of goods such as apples, dry fruits, handicrafts, etc. to other parts of India. The inauguration of the Chenab rail bridge also assumes significance as it comes in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, wherein 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. A direct train between Jammu and Srinagar would be cheaper and reduce travel time, which is likely to give a fillip to tourism. PM Modi chairs first union ministers' meet after Operation Sindoor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting of the Union Council of Ministers in the capital on Wednesday, marking the first such gathering following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and Indias retaliatory actions under Operation Sindoor. The session was attended by key members of the Cabinet, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers J P Nadda, Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan, and Minister of State for Jal Shakti C R Patil. While official details of the discussion remain under wraps, the media reported that a detailed presentation on Operation Sindoor was made, alongside a review of each ministrys key achievements. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 people lost their lives in an assault by Pakistan-backed terrorists. In a decisive response, Indian forces destroyed terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK, eliminating over 100 terrorists. India also hit back at Pakistani airbases following further aggression, with military action ceasing after a request from Pakistans DGMO on May 10.
