Another iPhone 18 Pro leak fuels the most anticipated display upgrade yet

Yet another rumor corroborates the recent info that a major upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro's display that Apple may be planning.
The iPhone 17 series is not even out yet; however, rumors about next year's iPhone 18 series have already started showing up. Now, a reputable tipster is corroborating an earlier report about the iPhone 18 Pro models potentially upgrading a key display feature... Face ID. Ross Young has previously said that the 2026 Pro-branded iPhones may feature under-display Face ID sensors. Then, a week and a half ago, we had a report from The Information claiming the iPhone 18 Pro models may only come with a punch-hole for the selfie camera, while the Face ID sensors will be hidden under the display, therefore no pill-shaped cutouts or notches. This time, Young brings even more corroborating sources for this claim. Young says that during the SID Business Conference, OTI Lumionics CEO Michael Helander confirmed phones with under-panel Face ID featuring their materials may be available for sale next year. This obviously corroborates earlier rumors about the iPhone 18 Pro's Face ID.
At the SID Business Conference today, OTI Lumionics CEO Michael Helander confirmed that they expect phones with under panel Face ID using their materials to be available for sale in 2026. This suggests that iPhone 18 Pro models will have under panel Face ID with other brands and… — Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) May 14, 2025 Of course, this information is far from confirmed yet. The thing is, we are far from certain even for the iPhone 17 Pro's major redesign that's been circulating around in the past for months. But despite this, Young is often accurate enough when it comes to Apple (and other) leaks.
It is also not certain whether the Dynamic Island feature will be discontinued or will continue to be a thing in the iPhone 18 despite the lack of a pill-shaped Face ID section. The Dynamic Island is a clever way to take advantage of that space in the display and make it more useful. My two cents on this is that it may not be needed if there's no pill-shaped cutout to complement (or make less annoying to look at). The iPhone 18 series is set to be unveiled in September 2026. Meanwhile, we've also heard that Apple may be shifting the way it introduces new iPhones, potentially changing to two events a year, instead of just one. If this rumor is accurate, this would mean that in September 2026, we may only see the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, with the base iPhone 18 and Air model scheduled for the spring of 2027.
Apple is also reportedly planning its first foldable iPhone sometime in the end of 2026 or early 2027. At least judging by all the rumors, there are exciting things to look forward to from Apple.
In the meantime, Apple's main competitor, Samsung, has recently revealed the Galaxy S25 Edge, a thin beauty that's plenty expensive. It is supposed to rival the iPhone 17 Air, although this phone's existence is only rumored so far. Samsung is also busy aiming (reportedly) for the world's thinnest foldable title with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and playing around with a concept for a tri-foldable device as well. Times are interesting, alright!

New leak claims Dimensity 9500 matches Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in terms of performance
Qualcomm and MediaTek are almost toe to toe when it comes to flagship chipset. Both chip makers are trying to create extremely powerful, yet very efficient, smartphone chipsets, in an attempt to gain from each other's market just a few months away from the release of Qualcomm's flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, but rumor has it MediaTek is going to launch its own top-tier chip, Dimensity 9500, slightly this doesn't really matter for handset makers, which made plans about their device long before MediaTek and Qualcomm decided when to reveal their chipsets, it does matter for customers, especially if one of the two chipsets is more powerful than the other. According to the latest reports, that doesn't seem to be the case though. After revealing the benchmark scores of the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 just a few days ago, reputable leaker Digital Chat Station is back with yet another juicy piece of information, MediaTek Dimensity 9500's benchmark scores. Judging from the numbers, MediaTek managed to beef up its flagship chipset just as much Qualcomm. The Dimensity 9500 and Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 have nearly similar scores, so it will probably a matter of taste when it comes to choosing which phone you want. Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 benchmark scores Single core performance score: 4,000+ — up from 3,100+ Multi core performance score: 11,000+ — up from 9,800+ MediaTek Dimensity 9500 benchmark scores Single core performance score: 3,900+ — up from 2,900+ Multi core performance score: 11,000+ — up from 9,200+ MediaTek Dimensity 9500 is becoming more interesting as we're getting closer to its launch | Image credit: PhoneArena Just like the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 chipset will use TSMC's third-generation 3nm node manufacturing process. The chipset's architecture consists of 1 Travis core, 3 Alto cores, and 4 Gelas cores. The first two are based on Arm Cortex-X9 cores, while the latter is based on Arm's Cortex-A7. In comparison, MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 chipset uses Cortex-X4 cores instead, so this is one of the reasons that the upcoming Dimensity 9500 will be a lot more powerful. The first phones to use MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 chipset could be the Oppo Find X9 and Vivo X300. We have yet to learn when exactly MediaTek plans to announce its new chipset, but we do know Qualcomm's will make the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 official on (or around) September 23.

Bonkers new deal drops the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE to an absurdly low price
If we can all agree that Samsung's first-ever Galaxy Buds FE are some of the greatest budget wireless earbuds out there at their regular price of $99.99 (and I think we can), then what does an over 60 percent discount make these noise-cancelling bad boys released less than two years ago? The steal of the year? The bargain of the century? The best thing a cash-strapped audiophile can get to start their summer in style? All of the above? Whichever of those options you believe to be most accurate, you may want to hurry and take advantage of Woot's latest and greatest Galaxy Buds FE promotion before it's too late... and before the weirdly named Galaxy Buds 3 FE come out. $61 off (61%) True Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation, Ambient Sound, New Wingtip Design, Auto Switch, IPX2 Water Resistance, Graphite Color, New, International Model, 1-Year Warranty Included, BIRTHDAY Promo Code Required Buy at Woot True Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation, Ambient Sound, New Wingtip Design, Auto Switch, IPX2 Water Resistance, US Version, 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty Included, Graphite and White Color Options Buy at Amazon The Amazon-owned e-tailer technically lists the graphite-coated Samsung earbuds in brand-new, unused, unopened, and undamaged condition at $49.99, which would only represent a discount of $50 (or 50 percent) over that aforementioned $99.99 price, but if you're quick, you can easily save an additional 21 percent. That's 21 percent slashed off the already reduced price of $49.99, so when all is said and done, you're looking at coughing up $39.49 right now... after using the coupon code "BIRTHDAY" at checkout. If you forget to apply that to your order before you finalize it or miss out on the improved discount (which expires at the end of the day, mind you), the price will stay at $49.99, which is also not a bad deal, beating Amazon's best first-party offer by $15 at the time of this writing. The catch? Woot is selling "international" Galaxy Buds FE units here... with a full 1-year warranty included, which is obviously not much of a catch or a serious inconvenience. Between the active noise cancellation, 6-hour battery life (upgradable to 21 hours when you factor in the bundled charging case), handy Live Translate functionality, better-than-nothing IPX2 water resistance, and distinctive design (even compared to all other Galaxy Buds family members), the Buds Fan Edition is clearly a phenomenal value proposition at $39.49 (and even $49.99), looking like some of the best wireless earbuds you can buy this summer. Period. Unless, of course, the Galaxy Buds 3 FE somehow manage to be similarly affordable and even more sophisticated. But that's not something you should think about today.
