Apple iPhone 17 Will Premiere Major Design Upgrade, New Report Hints
When the iPhone 17 series lands, it's going to look very different from the current line-up. And a new report tells us exactly how big the displays will be —and seems to confirm a highly desirable upgrade is coming. Apple iPhone 16: will the iPhone 17 have a ProMotion screen for the first time? While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will stick with the display sizes Apple introduced last year for the Pro models, the regular iPhone 17 will gain a bigger, and possibly better, screen. According to Ross Young, an analyst who specializes in displays, in a post on X for subscribers only, and picked up by MacRumors, the display sizes will be changing. Apple iPhone 17 screen will be bigger than the iPhone 16 display by 0.15 inches, that is, it'll go up from 6.12 inches to 6.27 inches, which will match the size of the iPhone 16 Pro screen. Apple rounds these figures, describing the iPhone 16 as having a 6.1-inch display, and the iPhone 16 Pro screen as measuring 6.3 inches. Expect the same this September. Young says that the iPhone 17 Pro will continue to have the same size screen as it does now, that is, 6.27 inches. Which makes me think that Apple may be about to release the first regular iPhone with ProMotion, the advanced dynamic refresh rate until now exclusively on iPhone's Pro models. After all, the screen size increase to match the Pro means Apple could use the same display on both models. ProMotion also enables the always-on display on the Pro, so this could be coming to the regular iPhone, too. The iPhone 17 Pro display is thought to be the same as now, that is 6.86 inches (6.9 inches in Apple Speak). Finally, the new slimmer phone, nicknamed iPhone 17 Air, will have a 6.55-inch display, Ross claims.

iPhone 17 tipped to get a larger screen thanks to smaller bezels – and that could be its biggest upgrade
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The iPhone 17 could get a bigger screen, according to new rumors A jump from 6.1 inches to 6.27 inches is rumored The bezels are expected to get smaller We're getting closer to the expected September launch of the iPhone 17, and the latest unofficial leak to emerge suggests the display is going to grow in size compared to the iPhone 16 – thanks primarily to shrinking bezels. According to well-respected industry analyst Ross Young, the upcoming flagship phone from Apple will have a screen measuring 6.27 inches corner to corner, which is a small but noticeable increase from 6.1 inches on the current model. As 9to5Google reports, various other sources have also pointed towards the same upgrade in recent months, which adds an extra layer of credibility to the rumor. As for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, they're expected to have the same screen sizes as their predecessors, so 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches respectively. That leaves the iPhone 17 Air, which is rumored to have a screen size of 6.7 inches. There's no current model we can compare this to, but it's apparently going to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, which has the same display size of 6.7 inches. We've heard plenty about the iPhone 17 over the last few months, including a rumor that the base iPhone model will at last get an upgrade to 120 Hz ProMotion technology, meaning smoother on-screen animations and support for an always-on display. The Pro and Pro Max models are being tipped for a pretty significant redesign around the back, although it doesn't seem that this revamp is going to extend to the base iPhone 17 – which will instead adopt a familiar look. Against the backdrop of ever-changing US tariff policies, it remains to be seen what Apple is able to do with the pricing, and there's persistent talk that we'll have to pay more for the iPhone 17 than we did for the iPhone 16. Meanwhile, we've heard that Apple might be shifting iOS (and its other software platforms) to version 26 this year, to match 2026 next year. However, it seems unlikely that the iPhone series will get a similar number bump. 5 things I want from the iPhone 17, or I'm back on Android The iPhone 17 is rumored to go big on video recording features These are the best iPhones you can buy right now

iPhone 17 leak hints at 120Hz display for standard model and bigger screen tipped
Fresh leaks surrounding Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 series have surfaced, with new claims indicating a significant upgrade in display technology for the standard model. While Apple has yet to officially announce the next-generation devices, consistent reports from industry insiders continue to shed light on what could be in store. According to renowned display industry analyst Ross Young, who shared the details on X, the standard iPhone 17 could boast a larger 6.3-inch screen—measured precisely at 6.27 inches—compared to the 6.1-inch display on last year's iPhone 16. More notably, the base model is also expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate, marking a notable shift in Apple's strategy for its entry-level flagship. Until now, the higher refresh rate ProMotion displays have been exclusive to Apple's Pro line of iPhones. These panels dynamically adjust refresh rates for smoother visuals and more responsive scrolling. By introducing this feature to the standard iPhone 17, Apple appears to be narrowing the gap between its regular and Pro offerings. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models launched with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, while the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max were equipped with 120Hz displays. If the leak proves accurate, the iPhone 17 will become the first non-Pro iPhone to feature the smoother display tech—potentially enhancing the user experience without requiring an upgrade to the premium models. Design leaks and early specifications have hinted at a four-model lineup this year: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to come with a larger 6.5-inch screen, while the Pro model is expected to share the same 6.3-inch display as the base variant. Performance upgrades are also on the cards. The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are tipped to be powered by either an A18 or A19 chip, alongside 8GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the Pro and Pro Max versions may feature the new A19 Pro chipset and 12GB of RAM, according to earlier leaks.

The iPhone 17 will reportedly have a bigger 6.3-inch display
The iPhone 17 will move to a larger 6.3-inch screen diagonal, making the iPhone 16 the last to use the 6.1-inch size. This rumor has been circulating before and is now backed by DSCC founder and current Counterpoint Research VP Ross Young, who has a solid track record with display-related rumors. This would make the base model iPhone and the iPhone 17 Pro equal in display size, something last seen with the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. Size aside, the iPhone 17 Pro will likely have superior screen specs, including ProMotion and higher peak brightness. The other two iPhones in Apple's upcoming 17 lineup are expected to have different screen sizes, however. The rumored iPhone 17 Slim (or Air), which is set to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, will have a 6.6-inch display (smaller than the Plus' 6.7-inch). The iPhone 17 Pro Max will retain the 6.9-inch and its title as the biggest iPhone. Source

iPhone 17's display could be the same size as iPhone 17 Pro — what we know
There are a lot of changes happening to the iPhone 17 series later this year, but something we hadn't anticipated was a change in screen size. Specifically a slight increase on the standard iPhone 17 model. But, according to display analyst Ross Young, that's what we should expect. The iPhone 17 is set to grow, leaving behind its 6.12-inch display in favor of a 6.27-inch panel. That's the same size as the iPhone 16 Pro, and we're expecting that the iPhone 17 Pro will be sticking at the same dimensions. We know the iPhone 17 is getting minimal design changes, compared to the Pro and Air models' new camera bars, so the changing screen is quite a big deal. We know the iPhone 17 is getting minimal design changes, compared to the Pro and Air models' new camera bars, so the changing screen is quite a big deal. What isn't clear is how Apple will increase the display. It's possible that Apple will simply increase the size of the phone, to accommodate the new extra 0.15-inches of screen space, but that doesn't seem likely. The alternative is that Apple will shrink down the bezels, as it did with iPhone 16 Pro, to fit more screen into the same size of phone. It's a small change, but it would be a welcome one. Not just for the extra screen space, but also because smaller bezels typically look much nicer than larger ones. The iPhone 17 isn't expected to look all that different from the iPhone 16. Rather than having a redesigned rear, like its compatriots, renders and dummy models suggest we'll still be getting the same vertically-stacked dual-lens camera. There have been rumors that the Dynamic Island could shrink even further on the iPhone 17 Pro, thanks to a new "metalens" for Face ID. However this isn't likely to happen to the entry-level model, though the iPhone 18 may be a little luckier in that regard. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. We may finally see a ProMotion display on the non-Pro models, though. That's something we've been dying for Apple to offer for years, and would mean the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air screens would no longer be stuck at a measly 60Hz. Instead we can all enjoy an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate, offering a significantly smoother screen and reduced power draw. Other rumored features include vapor chamber cooling, Apple-built batteries with better performance, and the new A19 chipset built with TSMC's improved 3nm process. But we won't know for sure until Apple's official launch event, which will likely happen in September as usual. In the meantime you can check out all the latest news and rumors in our iPhone 17 hub.
