Verizon reasserts dominance over T-Mobile and unveils Project 624 to keep customers happy
Yesterday, T-Mobile claimed that it had surpassed AT&T and Verizon in speed and reliability, but Verizon doesn't seem to agree. The company says it has the fastest and most reliable 5G network in the US. Verizon is betting big on AI to improve how customer queries and issues are handled. The company insists that this isn't a response to its dismal Q1 performance. Instead, this is a part of a multi-year consumer strategy.

It will rely on Google Cloud's AI, including its Gemini models to improve how customer queries are handled. A team called Customer Champion will keep customers updated via the My Verizon app, text messages, or phone calls. The goal is to ensure that customer issues are resolved without requiring them to reach out more than once. The new system has been in place for a few months as part of a pilot program and the results have been impressive, with problems getting solved the first time around 90 percent of the time, up from 80 percent. In the future, the number is expected to go up to 95 or 96 percent.
The company told CNET that it built an AI-powered Verizon Assistant with the help of Google engineers. It's customized with Verizon -specific context. The new tech will allow Verizon to tackle problems proactively.

To ensure help is available when customers need it, the company is expanding support call hours and introducing 24/7 live chat support. The My Verizon app has been revamped and now leverages AI to help customers better manage their accounts and maximize savings. Perhaps to prove that this is not just a marketing stunt, Verizon Consumer's Chief Executive Officer Sowmyanarayan Sampath has even made his email address (s.sampath@ verizon .com) publicly available if the company ever falls short.

The company claims it has the "largest retail postpaid fleet" and has added around 400 stores in the last two years. The company says that 93 percent of the population now resides within 30 minutes of a Verizon store.
And, as expected, Verizon is taking a page out of T-Mobile 's playbook and intensifying its focus on rewards. The company will be distributing 35,000 free prizes via its Verizon Access rewards platform. Starting today, customers can win tickets to events, giveaways, gift cards, and merch. Those who visit a Verizon location will find more freebies waiting for them through June 30. The company also subtly threw shade at T-Mobile by saying that instead of food discounts, the company is going to focus on bucket-list things.

Blood oxygen monitoring returns to Apple Watch in the US — but with a twist
Apple Watch owners in the US are getting back as early as today a popular health feature that was taken away last year from the Apple Watch Series 9 , Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 . Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that blood oxygen tracking will return as part of an upcoming software update, ending a months-long absence caused by a legal dispute. Apple had to turn off the feature in late 2023 after a patent infringement lawsuit from medical technology company Masimo Corp. In this lawsuit, Masimo claimed that Apple's blood oxygen monitoring technology copied its patented designs. The US International Trade Commission agreed, which led to a US Customs order preventing Apple from selling watches with the feature active. Instead of removing the sensor from the hardware, Apple kept it in but disabled it for new units sold in the US. That meant customers could still buy the latest Apple Watch models but couldn't take a blood oxygen reading. The move allowed Apple to keep products on shelves while it looked for a legal and technical workaround. That workaround is arriving with iOS 18.6.1 and watchOS 11.6.1, which will roll out today . This has been confirmed by Apple in a post, clarifying that the update will allow readings to return for affected watches, but with a change: the measurement will now be calculated on the paired iPhone, not on the watch itself. Users will see their results in the Respiratory section of the Health app on iPhone, rather than directly in the Blood Oxygen app on the watch. Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold to offer Qi2 wireless charging support
The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is shaping up to be a decent upgrade over its predecessor. Google's upcoming foldable is rumored to offer a larger cover screen, larger battery, and better durability. A tipster has now revealed another feature coming to the Google foldable. According to tipster Evan Blass, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will support Qi2 wireless charging. This means that the foldable could feature magnets on the back and work with the rumored Pixelsnap magnetic charger. The tipster also reiterates that Google will not launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold alongside the other Pixel 10 series phones. It will be available for purchase at a later date, on October 9 to be precise. The Pixel Watch 4 and Buds 2a will also be released on the same date. Google's Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to be slightly thicker and heavier than the current 9 Pro Fold. This is likely because of the larger battery and the inclusion of magnets for Qi2 charging.
