SC seeks HC's response on lady judge's plea over 'demoralising' remarks in performance report after CCL request
New Delhi [India], June 11 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Jharkhand High Court and the State government, seeking their responses to a plea filed by a lady judge who sought removal of certain remarks made in her annual performance report.
The petitioner, a single parent and a District and Additional Sessions Judge in Dumka, Jharkhand alleged that following her request for 194 days of Child Care Leave (CCL), certain 'painful and demoralising' remarks were made in her Annual Confidential Report (ACR) for the assessment year 2023-2024 issued by the Vigilance Registrar of the High Court.
After hearing the matter today, a bench of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan directed the respondent HC and the State, to file their responses to the lady judge's plea within four weeks time and listed the matter for further hearing in the first week of August.
The judge had initially approached the Supreme Court after the High Court rejected her CCL request seeking 194 days of leave. The apex court then directed the High Court to reconsider the matter, following which she was granted 94 days of leave, by the High Court.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the Supreme Court was informed of a fresh grievance with regard to certain negative remarks made in her ACR. In her application, the judge submitted that while the remarks were stated to be 'suggestive' and non-adverse, they were demoralising and have caused her mental agony.
As per the lady judge's plea she has had an impeccable career record of having disposed of huge number of cases. Thus, she sought that the said remarks in her ACR report be expunged.
After hearing submissions, the top-court directed the High Court and the State government to file their responses within four weeks and posted the matter to be heard next in the first week of August.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin released waters from the Mettur Dam today to irrigate the delta region. "It is important, authorities should focus and ensure the river and channels are desilted besides availability of fertilisers," he added. The sharing of Cauvery waters has been a fraught issue between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka - especially in years there is a deficit monsoon. The situation persists despite a clear water sharing formula from the Supreme Court. With the southwest monsoon setting in early and the weatherman's forecast about an above average rainfall, farmers hope Karnataka would comply with the month-wise water sharing and that they would have a bountiful harvest.

Supreme court refuses to stay DSC exam, asks petitioner to approach Andhra Pradesh high court
Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a petition challenging the DSC exam in the state and asked the petitioner to approach the high court. The apex court observed that as the exam process has already started, a stay could not be given at this stage. Posina Anand Sai, an ex-serviceman, moved the Supreme Court contending that the process adopted by the state govt was flawed as the exam was being conducted over a month-long period using distinct question papers. He argued that similarly situated students might be subjected to different levels of difficulty because of this approach, and a concealed normalisation of scores might affect his chances of getting selected. Charu Mathur, the counsel for the petitioner, made a special mention before the bench for an urgent hearing, seeking directions to stay the process. However, the SC bench, comprising of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan, asked why the petitioner did not approach the high court. A stay of proceedings at this stage would affect the rights of those who appeared and those who will take the exam in the coming days. Considering the arguments, the bench observed that they were not inclined to interfere in the matter as the exam process was midway. The bench further noted that the court does not devise a mechanism for holding examinations. Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel visits Ahmedabad Hospital to meet plane crash victims
Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India], June 12 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday rushed to Asarwa Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad, where victims of the Air India plane crash were admitted for treatment. Expressing grief over the tragic incident, CM Patel assured comprehensive support for rescue and relief operations. Chief Minister directed authorities to establish a green corridor to expedite the transfer of injured passengers to medical facilities. He also ensured that hospitals are equipped to provide priority treatment. In a post on X, CM Patel stated, 'I am deeply saddened by the accident of the Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the officials to take immediate rescue and relief operations in the accident and to make arrangements for immediate treatment of the injured passengers on a war footing. I have also instructed to arrange a green corridor to take the injured passengers for treatment and to ensure all the treatment arrangements in the hospital are given priority. The Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amitbhai Shah has also spoken to me and assured full support of the NDRF teams and the Central Government for the rescue and relief operations in this plane crash.' According to his X post, PM Modi has also been closely monitoring the situation and is in constant communication with state authorities. Earlier today, an Air India plane from Ahmedabad to London with 242 passengers crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that a team has been rushed to the spot for investigation. The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal and First Officer Clive Kundar. Capt Sumeet Sabharwal is an LTC with 8200 hours of experience, and the official added that the copilot had 1100 hours of flying experience. As per ATC, the aircraft departed from Ahmedabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. It made a Mayday call to ATC, but thereafter, the aircraft did not respond to the calls. The aircraft fell on the ground outside the airport perimeter immediately after departing Runway 23. The official said heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site. Thick plumes of smoke could be seen at the accident spot. (ANI)
