Supreme court refuses to stay DSC exam, asks petitioner to approach Andhra Pradesh high court
Vijayawada: The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a petition challenging the DSC exam in the state and asked the petitioner to approach the high court. The apex court observed that as the exam process has already started, a stay could not be given at this stage.
Posina Anand Sai, an ex-serviceman, moved the Supreme Court contending that the process adopted by the state govt was flawed as the exam was being conducted over a month-long period using distinct question papers. He argued that similarly situated students might be subjected to different levels of difficulty because of this approach, and a concealed normalisation of scores might affect his chances of getting selected.
Charu Mathur, the counsel for the petitioner, made a special mention before the bench for an urgent hearing, seeking directions to stay the process. However, the SC bench, comprising of Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan, asked why the petitioner did not approach the high court. Mathur said she filed additional documents in which she mentioned that AP high court was on vacation, prompting the petitioner to move the apex court for relief.

Arguing on behalf of the state govt, additional solicitor general S V Raju said that lakhs of aspirants have already appeared for the exam. A stay of proceedings at this stage would affect the rights of those who appeared and those who will take the exam in the coming days.
Considering the arguments, the bench observed that they were not inclined to interfere in the matter as the exam process was midway. The bench further noted that the court does not devise a mechanism for holding examinations. Granting liberty to the petitioner to approach AP high court upon its reopening on June 16, the SC dismissed the petition.

Trinamool seeks transparent probe into Ahmedabad plane crash
The Trinamool Congress has called for a 'thorough, transparent, and unbiased investigation' into the crash of Air India flight AI171, while condemning the emergence of what it described as conspiracy theories following the tragedy. The aircraft, bound for London from Ahmedabad, crashed shortly after take-off on the afternoon of June 12, resulting in the deaths of nearly all passengers and crew members. As per current reports, only one passenger is known to have survived. The aircraft also claimed several lives on the ground after it crashed into a residential area near the runway. 'We need a thorough and unbiased investigation of the plane accident… it is not right to float theories such as bird hit and create a perception even before a proper investigation is conducted,' Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said on Friday (June 13, 2025). Referring to previous transport-related incidents during the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government's tenure, Mr. Ghosh said the present state of passenger safety and service raises concerns. 'This aircraft travelled from Paris to Delhi, then from Delhi to Ahmedabad, smoothly. Then what happened? Was the aircraft not properly maintained? To discern this, we need a proper investigation by proper specialists and authorities,' he said.

‘No Kings' protest across US: Why millions are set to take to the streets on Trump's birthday
June 14 is Donald Trump's 79th birthday as well as the 250 birthday of the US army. The American president will finally receive what he has been wanting for ages – a military parade in his honour. However, Trump will also receive an unwanted birthday gift – a countrywide stir against his administration. But what do we know about the 'No Kings' protest? read more Organisers of the 'No Kings' protest expect millions of people to attend across 2,000 events. AP Tomorrow, (June 14), is Donald Trump's 79th birthday. It also coincides with the 250 birthday of the us army. The US president will finally receive what he has been wanting for ages – a military parade in his honour. However, that's not the only thing Trump will be getting. In fact, Trump is set to receive an unwanted birthday gift – a countrywide protest against his administration. Worse, millions of people are expected to attend – and thereby rain on his parade. Apart from the weather, which incidentally, is also set for rain in the afternoon and evening. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The development comes in the backdrop of protests in Los Angeles and California against Trump's immigration policies. Trump has sent in The National Guard and the Marines to try to crush the protests. But what do we know about the 'no kings' protest that Trump is set to face? What do we know? The protest is set to take place in all 50 states in America as part of the 'No Kings' movement. Organisers have deliberately chosen the day in order to draw a contrast with Trump. According to the No Kings website, organisers have called for a 'nationwide day of defiance' to reject strongman politics and corruption. They say they expect millions of people to attend across 2,000 events. The biggest events will be held in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Phoenix, Houston, Atlanta and Charlotte. 'We've seen hundreds of new events on the No Kings Day map since the weekend,' Ezra Levin, co-founder of one of the groups behind the event, told The Guardian. 'We've seen hundreds of thousands of people register for those events.' However, no demonstrations are planned for Washington DC. Organisers say they have done this purposely to 'draw a clear contrast between our people-powered movement and the costly, wasteful, and un-American birthday parade in Washington.' Instead, organisers have announced a major flagship march and rally in Philadelphia. A federal employee, who asked not to use their name for fears over losing their job, protests with a sign saying 'Federal Employees Don't Work for Kings' during the 'No Kings Day' protest on Presidents Day in Washington. AP 'They've defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights, and slashed our services. The corruption has gone too. far. No thrones. No crowns. No kings,' the website states. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Hunter Dunn, who was previously the press coordinator for the 50501 protests , is organising the 'No Kings' event in Los Angeles. 'There's more explicit focus on getting Ice and the federal government out of Los Angeles, and it's become more obviously a protest against authoritarianism and fascism, I'd say, because we're actively under attack by our government,' Dunn told the newspaper. 'If someone's legal status is at risk, I would not want them to risk it for a protest. But what I would want them to do is ask five of their neighbours to come in their stead,' Dunn added. 'Because if you stand up by yourself against the government, you're going to be crushed, you're going to be put down. But if an entire community rises up together in solidarity, there's not a government in the world that could crush that. We're safer together.' A number of celebrities including Walmart heiress Christy Walton have spoken out in favour of these protests. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Walton in fact took out a one-page ad in The New York Times to do so. 'Don't feel like a king' Trump earlier this week addressed the planned protests. 'I don't feel like a king. I have to go through hell to get things approved,' Trump said. He also warned that anyone protesting during the military parade 'will be met with very big force.' 'If there's any protester who wants to come out, they will be met with very big force,' Trump said. 'I haven't even heard about a protest, but [there are] people that hate our country.' The White House has claimed that Trump 'supports peaceful protests.' With inputs from agencies
