Dog survives horrific paraffin attack in Bloemfontein
'It is deeply heart-breaking to witness the ongoing cruelty inflicted on innocent animals,' states Bloemfontein SPCA inspector Lucky Olifant.
The owner of the dog – Lucy (surname unknown) – told the SPCA that she heard a commotion outside her house. When she rushed outside, she found her dog engulfed in flames. Community members swiftly reacted to extinguish the flames and save the animal.

'During our investigation, the suspect admitted that he set the dog alight because she allegedly killed two of his chicks,' says the inspector. 'This is not justice – it is torture. Lucy endured unimaginable pain and was left severely burned and barely able to walk.'
Olifant explains that a case of animal cruelty has been opened against the suspect and that the SPCA 'will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served'.
He thanks the community members who reported the incident to the police in Kopanong for their assistance.
'We urge the public to continue speaking out against cruelty. Together, we are the voice of the voiceless,' concludes Olifant.

2 murder suspects killed in shoot-out with KZN police
Two suspects, who were wanted for the murder of a police officer, were shot and killed in a gunfight with KZN police last night in Inanda. According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspects were also wanted for attempted murder and a string of house and armed robberies. The Witness reports that police were following up on intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the wanted suspects, and the information led them to a house in the Maplazini area in Inanda. 'When police arrived at the house, they introduced themselves as police officers and instructed the suspects to open the door. The suspects responded with gunshots towards police officers from inside the house, and police were left with no choice but to return fire in self-defence,' says Netshiunda. He added that during the shoot-out, two suspects, aged 20 and 21, were killed. A firearm, with the serial number filed off, was found in the suspects' possession. No police officers were injured during the shoot-out. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak. Earlier this month, X user Chris Excel launched the crowdfunding initiative to gift Mkhwanazi two cows as a 'token of appreciation.' The campaign proved popular, raising nearly R50 000. Mkhwanazi offered to redirect the funds to SAPSET, demonstrating his commitment to supporting the children of fallen police officers. Robber with toy gun shot in failed eMalahleni supermarket robbery
A robbery at Safarie Supermarket in eMalahleni took a turn for the worse last night when a security guard caught the robbers by surprise. According to Witbank News, a security guard who stopped to get something at the cafe shot one of the robbers in the leg. A source told the newspaper that he was about to enter the popular supermarket when the robbers ushered him in and told him they were busy. 'One of the robbers pointed a gun at me. Instinctively, I reached for my gun and shot,' the security guard said. The robber, who was later found to have been armed with a toy gun, fled into the tavern next door to hide. Meanwhile, his accomplices made a dash for it and fled the scene. An ambulance was called, and the injured man was taken to the hospital. An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said he got the fright of his life when he saw three men scatter and the one with the toy gun run into the tavern. 'I just saw guns and heard shots. A bullet just missed me,' the man said. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel. Nuus wat saakmaak.
